Wow. My eyes saw this, but my brain can’t believe it.

    Still reveling in the won

Thought I had is Ben Smith the new Bolland in terms of clutch plays. Isn’t always visible but when he shows up it’s something big.

    • ToucanStubbs

When has Smith not shown up? He plays with fucking drive every time he’s out there. He isn’t the kind of guy you will see on the stat sheet but there is no question he shows up.

      • http://www.nosqldatabases.com Derek Stainer

I agree. The dude is nails on the boards but my point was is that is that he is showing up on the scoreboard/stat sheet when it matters

        • ToucanStubbs

          I understand.

  • Bruno_the_Blackhawk_Cat

From my pre-game wishes, there were better results at the face-off dot and fewer give-aways. Tonight: FO, 31-30, adv Hawks; Give-Away, 16-17, adv Hawks. Not a stunning improvement in either or the solution to all the world’s problems, but at least a bit less of a disadvantage.

    • ToucanStubbs

Hawks typically do poorly in giveaways, its a symptom of their possession game, just like the hitting. When you have the puck, you’re both more likely to give it away and less likely to hit. The even giveaways says to me we weren’t able to truly dominate possession like we see during the regular season and thats been the case since Game 3 in MN.

  • Yachtsman

Once again figuring out their opponent through a series. Down but never out. Vamos Hawks!

  • ballyb11

Best hockey game I have ever seen.

    • 1benmenno

      That worries me

      • teuvosimple

        why? I agree.

        • 1benmenno

I worry when he doesn’t worry

          • teuvosimple

Oh, I get it now. That’s funny.

      • ballyb11

        Ha.

  • HarryBalzonya

TOO HORNED UP BY THIS WIN TO SLEEP!!!!! The wife is about to get it!!!!

    • DJ

I’m watching Aussie Rules on Fox Sports 2. Great fun as always. Nice way to unwind.

      • HarryBalzonya

I don’t know if watching aussie rules compares to railing my wife

        • DJ

Wasn’t criticizing your activity at all. Just saying there’s not much going on here except watching thirty guys without pads kick the crap out of each other.

          • DJ

Speaking of kicking the crap out of someone, one guy jumped up to catch a ball, and kicked his teammate square on the jaw under the ear. Took two steps and dropped like a fucking rock. Carted off on a stretcher.

          • spotlight312

in my dreams tonight, the main event will feature quick and crow dropping gloves and kicking the crap out of each other like sugar ray vs holtby

          • DJ

That was funny. Don’t mess with Crow.

The guy that got kicked unconscious in the Aussie Rules game is okay, apparently. “Walking around the dressing room” said the sideline reporter.

        • Stockroom Snail

I can vouch for railing his wife. (I kid!)

  • PE-TER RE-GIN

Don’t doubt this team, and don’t sleep on this team. What a terror Kane is right now. He’ll be haunting the dreams of multiple Kings players.

    Wowza.

  • Bruno_the_Blackhawk_Cat

So, Brookbank had 5:09 TOI and Bollig, 6:46. The only other member of the Sub-10-Club was Zus at 9:25, but he is supposed to be a PK specialist. I’m not smart enough to comment on this, but I guess I’m posting to quantify the ‘why Q why’ crowd that will pop up soon enough.

    • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Typical Q, double shifting the players he trusts.

    • ToucanStubbs

When I tuned in, Brookbank was going defense full-time and he had some really stellar shifts. I mean, getting back in time, challenging the puck carrier as they tried to enter the zone, getting the puck and then he got pressured hard and didn’t turn it over. Looked really damn good. So I guess his minus came after that and Q benched him? Whatever it was, I must’ve missed it because everywhere else he looked solid.

  • TitanTransistor

Thank god we had that 6:46 of Bollig this game, I don’t see how the Hawks win without his contribution. Also, Brookbank, what a warrior. 5:09 of pure heart. Excuse me, I have to go punch something pull of sand.

    • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

It’s almost like some of the players in hockey are better than others. After forcing a Game 7 from 3-1 down, this was exactly what I was thinking too.

  • Duncanz

Just dropping in from SoCal to say congratulations Hawks fans.
Was reading your blog after Game 4 and it was good to see people not quitting and thinking ahead to wholesale off season dumps and free agent acquisitions. Heh heh
Anyhow, your team was great value for its win tonight.
Kings fans are starting to think, “Not Kane again!”
Regardless, Sunday is going to be a mighty affair.
Whatever happens, the eventual winner will be deserving series victors for persistence alone.
The two clubs have proven to be great rivals for each other, indeed.
Cheers and see you guys Sunday with bells on!

    • Bob Lanz

Wow I can only say looking forward to knocking you guys out again. And keep chanting Crawfords name he fucking loves the attention!!!
      #handshakes

      • Duncanz

Perhaps we’ll get to see what we’ve been waiting for for the longest time, @Bob Lanz … the two goalies dropping the gloves and going at it hell for leather!
Perhaps there was a little feeling over that Olympic selection policy after all!

  • Bob Lanz

I’m not even going to bitch about the lineup. We can’t roll four lines anymore. We don’t have the talent or the roster anymore. And I don’t fucking care either. Roll the core! Then roll them some more! Doubling down on Kane Smith Saad Shaw and Sharp works for me. Planting Zus & Bollig on the bench is a good thing …but would it hurt to let Morin play a couple of shifts in the first period to see if his possession and scoring touch could help us??? Not going to bitch second guess or speculate. Not going to do it. Winning!!!

    • Dan Morrison

The Kings in the first period were checking the crap out of us. And some of our fourth liners were struggling with getting blown up in previous game do would do well in that situation. It was nice having a few fresh legs to throw on the ice in the 2nd when LA’s been rolling four lines since puck drop. It would be nice to see some more Brookbank out there

  • JimmyMcNulty

i actually liked the brook bank for versteeg move. Kept the D fresh. And the Hawks managed to get away with running 3.5 lines.

    • Bob Lanz

It was an adjustment… Blender got stuck on ugh.

      #freemorin

      • teuvosimple

LA seems pretty talented. Do you think a different strategy would have resulted in a more comfortable win?

    • 2883

      Brookbank played 5 min

      • JimmyMcNulty

all of which were more helpful than had that time gone to versteeg

  • BestPredsForward

I can’t wait for the Kane-Toews-Saad experience in November.

    • Bob Lanz

I can Sunday is all that matters… But how about Sharp – Taravainen – Hossa ??

  • 1benmenno

    pretty pretty pretty pretty good.

    • birdhead

pretty pretty pretty pretty huge emotional rollercoaster

    • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

That game made me feel good in the watching and listening parts of my body.

      • Bannerman

When the Hawks fell behind I felt like they were still going to win. Haven’t had that feeling in a long time- like since last season.

        • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

I have to admit it, I thought we might be done after that Martinez goal. Cracked a beer and wondered if I’d be toasting their season. Then Kane called me an asshole and wagged his finger at me.

  • Pete

What an awesome game. Kane is so clutch. Saad playing great. Hammer is so good on defense. Did you guys see him at the end stopping LA in front of the net and clearing the puck out to the blue line with time winding down. I am a huge Ben Smith fan. The more ice time for him the better. Brookbank and Handzus at least add something to the team as Q is going to roll three lines. Bollig is doing literally nothing. Come on Q put Morin in for Bollig or Regin in. I would love Morin and Regin in but that is too much to ask. Go Hawks

  • Bannerman

Are the Rangers really going to go through the formality of making the winner of this series play them? Why not just award the cup Sunday, these are clearly the 2 best teams.
