Glad I’m not the only one who caught Raanta doing Hossa’s goal dance at the end of the game.

    • Z-man19

He allowed less than 2 goals, I’d bet Hossa approves

      • laaarmer

Hossa wanted to know why his puck was in Raanta’s net.

“I give you job Andy. You no let my puck into net by you.”

        • bizarrohairhelmet

          “I GIVES YOU ONE JOBE!”

          • MySpoonIsTooBig

Any else read that in Squizgar Skwigelf’s voice?

        • Z-man19

Do you think Hossa quietly curses our goalies after every GA? Stupid fucking goalies, must I do everything? Insert Czech curse word here’

          • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

            Slovak…

          • 10thMountainFire

As a Bohemian, I’ll politely ask you to refrain from confusing us with Slovaks. Ever.

          • laaarmer

            you dirty slovak

          • 10thMountainFire

            You’re just dirty.

          • DesertHawk

            Fan of King Wenceslas then?

          • 10thMountainFire

            The Duke. Aye.

  • http://www.our-founding.com/ TMFF

I have moved the Preds up to near the top if not the top of teams I just hate. Not for the team, but the fans and the organization and their targeting of Hawks Fans. Screw them!!!

    • bizarrohairhelmet

Did you see the section 303 website, too?

      • http://www.our-founding.com/ TMFF

        No, you have a link?

        • lizmcneill

          http://www.section303.com/chants

can you say “trying too hard”?

          • VanDorp’sMullet

Wow. Uhhhhh. Did the website’s 4 year old son write those chants?

Sadly (for them) the one where they chant after the panther snarl after goals will be used about once a month.

          • Country_Bumpkin

Reading that website has made me lose countless brain cells.

          • VanDorp’sMullet

            That and the scotch.

          • Fleshrifle

            After reading that…the scotch helped

          • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

            LIES!

Okay. Scotch kills some brain cells, but only the weak ones, making you smarter than you were.

          • MySpoonIsTooBig

Exactly, it’s simple evolution, survival of the fittest at it’s finest thank you very much Charles Darwin. The alcohol kills the slower and weaker brain cells which in turn strengthens the rest, just like how when a lion takes down a gazelle he’s actually made the herd stronger by eliminating a weak link. Exact same effect scotch has on the brain. It’s just science.

          • http://www.our-founding.com/ TMFF

            Oh wow! Impressive and sad!
I kinda just learned them by, you know, going to games and paying attention!

          • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Wow. Must be a team concept thing. This fits in so well with the whole, “Our sweaters make us look like a Junior High School team, motif.

          • berkley

I like that the goalie chants are still directed towards Chris Osgood

          • Korab22

Lee Harvey, you are a madman. When you stole that cow, and your friend tried to make it with the cow. I want to party with you, cowboy. If the two of us together, forget it.

          • bizarrohairhelmet

I’m mostly embarrassed for them as they seem to think the chants from the minors belong in the majors. Did you know they offer a free steak & catfish dinner (drinks and tip are not included) to any player who hits the puck up into the stands and hits Gnash in the ass?

      • http://www.our-founding.com/ TMFF

I really do hope they go through what Hawks fans did from 1998-2006. I have not wished that on any other organization, but Nashville, I do. I want them begging to just win a game and be thrilled when they fill the stadium halfway. Maybe then they will realize i was pretty stupid to think an empty seat is better than a full seat,……ever!

        • bizarrohairhelmet

Unfortunately, they will probably never have the high of winning it all to counter against how bad the worst can actually feel. No matter how bad it gets for them, they were only ever Nashville fans to begin with.

    • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

I think it’s hilarious … a team that collects significant dollars from revenue sharing every single year is allowed to actively prevent people from buying tickets to its games. Good sense. Fine rule structure there.

      • Toews still makes funny faces!

Fuck ‘em. Let them feel the pain we did under dollar Bill, maybe they will realize how fucked their idea actually is!

        • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

I agree, fuck em. But they don’t feel the pain, that’s the whole thing!

          • http://www.our-founding.com/ TMFF

They are on the path to feeling a good portion of it.

  • laaarmer

    Can they reach 300 goals?

    • Accipiter

Prolly around 270 – 280 G would be my guess.

    • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

I’d rather see them tighten the team D

      • Accipiter

        That is all Seabrook’ fault.

        • laaarmer

absolutely. If he was any kind of defenseman, he would be on the top pair, near the league lead in +/-, and near the top in assists. The team he was on would also be in 1st place.

          • birdhead

            wait a minute ….

          • lizmcneill

            But Seabrook sucks, keep up!

          • Accipiter

            Re: Seabrook

You can attribute those accolades to Q.

          • laaarmer

            Q is the best

      • laaarmer

Is it the team D or the goalie?

        disqus

        • Accipiter

I was told not to disqus.

          • laaarmer

Since they are not playing, it’s all on Crawford and Khabby. They suck.

          • Accipiter

Against the Leafs, the team D sucked. Also a few of the goals against were soft.

          • laaarmer

            Raanta sucks!

          • laaarmer

            Doh
            (Kent Simpson)

          • Accipiter

            He only has one job.

          • laaarmer

            And they all died!

          • Accipiter

            The end.

          • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Blake’s 7 or Game of Thrones?

          • birdhead

thanks for the B7 spoilers, jerk

        • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Goalie is part of the team D, but only a part. Hawks team philosophy is to have a solid, if unspectacular goalie behind one of the best team Defenses. Give up fewer shots, don’t leave guys alone in front of the crease, and don’t turn the puck over…. You’d be surprised how quickly the goalies will improve.

        • Toews still makes funny faces!

It is the PK, the 5v5 play is not the reason for the Hawks having the 15th ranked GA/G at 2.68, it is the PK.
5v5 Close the Hawks SV% is 0.924 (15th) and tied it is 0.936 (8th) in pretty much every situation these numbers hold true, EXCEPT 4v5 0.811 (29th). If the Hawks had an average PK they would have allowed 6 less goals and have a GA/G of 2.51, well below the league average and the Hawks would have a net GD/G +1.61.
What changes more from 5v5 to 4v5 the defensive play or the goalie play? IMO it is the PK play, not goalie that is the difference and the root cause of the poor PK. EV the goalies are doing fine, especially for what is needed on this team, AVG goaltending. IT just does not make sense to me to think the drastic 11%+ drop in SV% is suddenly all on the goalie. And no, not all teams see drops in SV% on the PK, especially this severe.

          • laaarmer

Is it the PK or the goalies?

          • Toews still makes funny faces!

IMO, it is the PK system not the goalies as to why the PK sucks horse balls so much.

          • laaarmer

I think it’s both. As Pat Foley likes to repeat all the time. Your best penalty killer is your goalie. They (the keepers) need to make some plays and bail out their teammates, as Crawford did last year. Rather than have his save % go down 11% last season, wasn’t it actually better on the PK? Did he face less shots than this season or did he and Emery just let less in? The skaters could certainly be better and my point is not to absolve them of blame.

          • Z-man19

Seems like Crow’s sv% on PK was pretty high, as in outlier high.

          • laaarmer

            yes it was

          • Z-man19

I’m putting a lot of this on the scheme and the D, it’s looked like hot dog shit. Crow gets some blame as well but he was probably not going to repeat last year. In the end, I’ll worry about this if the PK still sucks in the middle of March. Then I might worry

          • Accipiter

Not to give all the 2013 PK success to Frolik, but that guy found a role on that team that he was able to excel at and get himself ice time. I think that goofy bastard took a lot of pride in being a good PK’er and maybe some of that rubbed off on his teammates. The PK strategy (or how it is being executed) this year could also be at fault for the poor PK%.

          • Z-man19

Fri was definitely a factor, no question. The short season might have added some urgency to getting the PK right early

    • Z-man19

I wonder how much Crosby and some of the other top scorers get bounced around on lines like Kane does? Would Kane have more points if he skated with 19 a lot more than he does?

      • Accipiter

From Friedman and his 30 thoughts:
        24. Kane, by the way, has become the best “zone entry” player in the NHL. What does he ask his linemates to do once he gets into the offensive zone? “One of them has to go to net,” he said, then paused. “Actually, I’d prefer both of them go to the net.”

From Bourne and his thoughts on thoughts:
Mmm, delicious east-west Kane zone-entries. His linemates are so reliable in what I was talking about above – doing the right, simple things like driving the middle lane, getting to the net and so on – that d-men have to back off and allow him that space. If he played with guys who all wanted to be the high guy for the one-timer, he’d get less clean entries, and be less valuable. The letter of the day today kids is T for Teamwork.

        • 1benmenno

I like Bourne’s comments on Friedman’s thoughts. Very Talmudic.

          • Z-man19

            Talmudic?

          • 1benmenno

Yes, as in Talmud. Commentaries on commentaries. I thought everyone here knew their Mishnah from their Gemara.

          • Country_Bumpkin

            As in the Talmud? L’chaim.

          • 1benmenno

L’chaim! And, although Chanukah is over, a gut yontif to you.

        • lizmcneill

Well, there’s audio evidence that Kane isn’t shy at telling Captain to go to the net, so I imagine everyone else hears the same thing. “Go right to the net, Zus…..don’t worry, I can keep hold of the puck!”

          • Accipiter

Zus says, “Kaner, hold on to the puck until I get there”.

          • 10thMountainFire

            This could be a while.

          • lizmcneill

            Kaner’s got this.

  • 10thMountainFire

Wow. The Blues gave Alexander Steen 3 years and $17.4 million.

    • lizmcneill

Term shouldn’t kill them though. 29 year old having a career year…..

      • 10thMountainFire

Three years is healthy… but for that cap hit in a possible outlier year? Not a fan…

    • Toews still makes funny faces!

      I would say HAHA!!!
But that is now also a bar being set for DDN negotiations. ughhhh

      • laaarmer

They are going to negotiate in a bar?
        Which one?

        /zoink

        • Accipiter

Whichever one Kane wants to go to.
