Fighting and common sense… Yeah, that’s gonna work.

“Obviously, the referees’ willingness to whistle an instigator will be key here,”
    Doomed already.

That rule seems like it would help get rid of staged fights which in turn helps get rid of the designated enforcer.

    • MySpoonIsTooBig

I disagree, I think that the rule will absolutely help get rid of staged fights. I think that enforcers would be reluctant to engage in staged fights knowing that they wouldn’t be to then get into another fight later in the game if a teammate is on the wrong end of a cheap shot – ie the fights that they’re really their to fight – without getting kicked out.

Kevin Dineen! Boy do I like that hire.

    • jordyhawk

Me three. I love that guy! That is great news!

I remember when he was first hired by the Panthers, there was a story about his first words to the team. He apparently addressed integrity, how important it was to him, and said that anyone caught diving, no matter who, would see his minutes go to someone else. That wasn’t the only thing he said, obviously, but it stuck with me. There’s also the whole good coach thing.

        • jordyhawk

Good stuff. I see a Captain Jonny/Coach Kevin alliance in the making.

    • bigtreina

So this is more than a ‘crony’ type hire? I’m not terribly familiar with his coaching career other than the last Olympic games. Do you think he will genuinely be able to help special teams?

      • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

He’s got a good hockey brain, and has a reputation for being a bit of a player’s coach, but demanding. I don’t think the hire would be categorized entirely by nepotism, no. I mean, every single head coach and GM in the league wants to hire people he knows, and who will suit their own vision, but Dineen strikes me as far more than just a yes-man. Dunno about special teams specifically.

Anyone who could guide Florida to the playoffs…
and very impressive job in the Olympics!

    The Dineen story. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/kevin-dineen-joins-blackhawks-staff-for-whalers-reunion–cup-chance-144845801.html

IRT bigtreina below: yeah, it’s a cronie hire, but in this case it’s not a bad thing. This guy has a resume, and may be eyeing Q’s job in a couple of years (with Q’s blessing).

    • Joe Banks

…may be eyeing Q’s job in a couple of years…
      Stan, is that you?

  • Joe Banks

Now if we could just find Kitchen a job in the OHL… Kitchener Rangers?
