Hypothetically, if the decision is between Bollig or Handzus to the press box (no, you can’t have both) when Shaw returns who plays hockey and who plays cards with Morin and the rest of the Black Aces?

    • Bannerman

I feel like it will be Bollig that sits due mostly to the bad penalty. Plus the lack of hits, if that’s something the coaching staff actually cares about, will be offset by Shaw’s return.

      • wardrums

I still have not seen a replay of Bollig penalty. Was it a legit call with all the other interference that has been taking place in the playoffs. Seriously, I have no clue what constitutes interference anymore.

        • DJ

When they showed the replay, it was just off-screen. But whether it was a soft or hard hit, it was 100+ feet behind the play. Such stupidity deserves a trip to the press box for the rest of the series.

At least on the too many men call, it was precipitated by Regin attempting to play the puck. That’s a bit more understandable.

          • wanker751

Yes I really had no issue with the Regin too much men penalty. (Well him taking it) It being called I really think we can see that not called ALOT more times that in it called.

It is kind of like the neighborhood play in Baseball. Majority of the time the 2B gets benefit of the doubt but everyone once in a while Joe West makes Hawk lose his shit….

Just sucked that “once in a while” was in the conference finals. The Hawks were still allowed to kill that penalty though.

          • DJ

Precisely. You don’t know if a referee is going to swallow his whistle; don’t leave yourself at his mercy.

          • 60MinutesBaby60

            +1 Good comparison man.

    • YoAdrienne

I don’t see Zus getting scratched, unless he’s in dire need of rest, which he won’t be after getting 2 days off. I honestly don’t mind Zus being in. It’s easy to blame things on him because he’s slow, but like Sam said in the wrap-up, Zus was the only one was paying attention before the Richards goal. That’s the kind of thing he brings to the game, along with his huge body. If it comes down to those two, I see Bollig sitting in the press box. Assist on Smith’s goal aside, he’s fucking useless.

Sadly, it will probably be Regin that sits. For the life of me, I do not understand why Bollig is even on this team.

    • guesthouse

I would be fine with Shaw replacing either Bollig or Versteeg.

    • birdhead

      I hope it’s Bollig. I fear it’s Regin.

      • GypsyDanger86

Seesm like a good bet. Regin’s line got torn apart last night. Which is really his first bad night in a Hawks sweater, but we all know that the rules for the Hawks are different and much more rigid than the rules for Bollig.

  • halojumper

Is it me but did the Hawks look like they went into prevent defense and try and hold a 2 zip lead? Dunno

    • http://www.thecommittedindian.com/ Killion

Not sure it was a prevent so much as a total meltdown. Two goal leads are nothing in these playoffs this year. They drop like flies.

      • halojumper

True, playoff hockey is different kind of animal. I wish the Hawks would play angry, of course no stupid penalties.Kind of fun watching Dustin Brown getting cotton up his nose, way better because Kopitar caused it. True fans of Hockey know one game does not guarantee a series. I wish Eddie O and Pat Foley were calling the games. Please put in Brookbank and sit Bolig.

    • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

They didn’t go into a prevent, they never came out of the locker room to start the third.

    • teuvosimple

i think they just got shellshock

  • jordyhawk

Clear, straightforward explanation of what happened last night:

  • GypsyDanger86

I just think, having BOTH Zus and Bollig on the roster at the same time is a problem. You have a guy who is playing under 10 minutes and doing nothing [positive, anyway] in that time, forcing other players to chew up the remaining minutes.

Then you have Zus who you could argue would function BETTER as a 10 minute guy, as a PK specialist predominantly but maybe also shifting on the 4th line.

But you obviously can’t have TWO guys playing roughly 10 minutes, cause then the minutes for everybody else will go higher than anybody would like.

So I say, give Zus Bollig’s role, bring in Shaw as 2C. Zus, as a winger (and a second C in case of Kruger getting waved out), could offer you everything on the 4th line that Bollig currently is.

    I’d go:

    29-19-88 – <– Kick-start Kane

10-65-81 <– Hossa can help Sharp
20-12-23 <– Third line needs help, Saad is going strong right now
    26-16-28

Now… there's also the discussion of whether it's time to give up on the Versteeg experiment and put 11 in his place…

    • jordyhawk

Solid plan. As well, it leaves the option of using Zus selectively at 2C if needed (in which case Shaw and Versteeg could each move down a line). Whatever the lines, those are the 12 guys to dress up front.

    • JB from PA

I like this with one modification. Swap 28 and 65.

  • YoAdrienne
    • Joe Banks

I noticed on the right margin of this article, congrats to Sheldon Brookbank on the birth of son ASHER today.
Congrats, Sheldon! – now replace Roscival!

  • GypsyDanger86

“I left the game; I woke up this morning way more angry than I exited the game,” Quenneville said on Thursday afternoon. “Normally it’s the other way around.”

    http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/blackhawks/post/_/id/4683008/quenneville-not-forgetting-g2-loss-easily

I hope the players feel the same way. Not enough to get off their game, but enough to want to stick it back down LA’s throats. Bring on Game 3!

  • GypsyDanger86

Smith telling it like it is:

“Smith said the Blackhawks need a better sense of urgency.

“We just need to show a bit more passion there and competitiveness in the last 20 minutes, like we had in the first 40,”

Do that and next game is yours Hawks.

    • 60MinutesBaby60

Look I’ve grown to like Smith okay. Was a skeptic for a while.
But the dude’s a cliche machine. I know NHL guys almost all are tho.

  • wanker751

I figured carcillo was gonna do something to get ejected from this game… elbowing linesmen was way down on the list of how

    • Bruno_the_Blackhawk_Cat

There’s dumb and then there’s DUMB! I mean even Billy Martin knew the limits of messing with the officials.

  • Bruno_the_Blackhawk_Cat

Wow, the ‘keep your stick on the ice’ has become an official meme.

  • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Not many posts, but it’s a non game day after a loss.

I am very happy at the lack of ledge jumpers….

… or maybe they jumped already?

    • YoAdrienne

Probably recuperating from all the stress, hand-wringing, whatever. Or, busy watching the Habs-Rangers game. Habs hanging in there…

    • 60MinutesBaby60

Licking our wounds, if I may be so bold as to attempt to speak for the
assembled. Looking forward to a certain Saturday night hockey game in LA …

  • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Habs feeling it. Benefit from a Ranger D man kicking it past Lindy.

    • YoAdrienne

Hope they make it 3-1 with the empty netter.

      • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

And now Emelin kicks one in. 2-2

Shame, that kid in goal was standing tall.

        • 60MinutesBaby60

That kid played his ass off. Props to him. and the post game interview he gave was impressive too – some cliches for sure but said the right- respectful – way.
A name to watch for sure imo.

        • YoAdrienne

I couldn’t take staying up for OT and went to bed. Nice to see the Habs aren’t dead yet! Except for that Emelin goal, Tokarski looked great. Good to see him get a win, because he was nails the rest of the game.

  • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Even my heart attack was better than that third period. I remember lying on the table in the cath lab thinking, ‘Bet I get a week off of work for this.”

    • 60MinutesBaby60

Hey bud you’re one tuff Hombre. I love puck too but in that particular “sitchy-a-tion” coupla bullet points I gotta check off before I get to time off work..

Kings are hitting their stride. Plus BHs look like their fuel gauge is on E.
Looks kinda grim that combo some might even say …
Me? I haven’t looked this forward to ANY sporting match in quite some time.
