I like you more. But I like Hossa, Toews, and Saad more than more.

Best ad of the last 200 years. Winner.

    • The Other One

That’s it! Joe Thornton hates babies, puppies, and freedom! I could just tell by looking at him.

    • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

and you own the LA Clippers.

  • Hawkeytalk

The Lu piece is hilarious. “Goal…goal….goal” “I’ve been stromboned” hahaha

    • MySpoonIsTooBig

I nearly fell out of my chair laughing at the “we should get you and Schneider on the panel and then get rid of you both” line

      • 1benmenno

“No, you hang up. Ok, later Torts.”

      • Hawkeytalk

        That one was good too!

    • Preacher

I pretty much woke the family up with my laughter watching Lu’s bit late last night. Pure hilarity!
(And I was on the computer after everyone else had gone to bed because I was doing research. For … preacherly stuff. That’s what it was. Yes, it was! Now leave me alone!)

      • The Other One

I did that the other night when Toews scored the game winner in OT. Woke up the whole house with that one…

        • VerStig

Yeah… that was the first time I laughed instead of yelled at an OT GWG (well… except Dan Boyle’s own-goal in 2010, but I didn’t see that one live).

    • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

I would love to have Lu on the Hawks. Not in net, mind you, just to do the post game interviews.

  • bizarrohairhelmet

The Eulogy comments just keep getting more unreal:

“If you wanted to roast the St. Louis and the Blues you should have just titled it St.Louis/Blues roast. I thought this was an actual informative piece like the other eulogies. Instead it was just some ignorant article making fun of my hometown and team. If I had known this was what the article was I never would have clicked on it. I demand a sincere hand typed apology from the writer of this article to my email.”

    • Bannerman

That is a well done fake. It’s actually funnier than the eulogy itself.

      • bizarrohairhelmet

Maybe. You can’t discount the notion that STL fans are really that clueless.

        • XMF

In their defense, meth is a heck of a drug.

        • Bannerman

That last line is a dead giveaway.

    • Hags

I love that there is a paragraph long disclaimer saying “Here are The Committed Indian Staff and Cieslak from HockeeNight.com, fondly recalling the 2013-14 St. Louis Blues. Again, this was not written by us. Also: This is a roast and you will be offended by it, so don’t take it so seriously.)”

Guess it just proves people from St. Louis simply can’t read what’s put in front of them.

  • pepe_silvia

Hey TMFF, yesterday I saw your palomino post before I posted the bit about Sterling, but forgot what palomino was. I kind of thought it might be an inside joke further down the comments section and didn’t go to find out. Sorry about that.

    • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

We’re allowed to talk about sport-things with a civil tongue. If we don’t want to read it or strongly disagree with opinions then we don’t have to read it or comment on it. I think palominos get nominated a bit too liberally myself. Yeah it’s a hockey blog, but it’s also a community of people with interesting thoughts about sports in general.

      • cliffkoroll

        PALOMINO!

        • Accipiter

          That was my line !!!!

        • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Well, any pal o’ yours is a palomino!

          • YoAdrienne

And, any palamino is a pal o’ mine-o.

        Palomino’d!

        • XMF

Disqus did not tell me Cliff had already Palomino’d this line of discussion. So I’m now Palomino’ing Disqus.

          • Waylon

you can blow Disqus to the newly – discoverd moon of Saturn, for all I care.

          • XMF

I live on Europa. I’ll bring it up at the next Homeowner’s Association meeting.

          • Waylon

you are not allowed to talk about Disqus.

      • Waylon

I agree, but an earlier discussion about Varlemov and his domestic dispute really got out of hand and degenerated at lightning speed. So a few of us are quite wary about that happening again. It’s a fine line, and I’m never quite sure exactly where it is.

        • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

It’s wherever I draw it, Waylon!

          • Waylon

The Mark Messier award will eventually be renamed the Jonathan Toews Leadership Award.

    • jordyhawk

      Or just “the Jonny”

  • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Every time I hear this line from Andrew Lloyd Weber;’s “Phantom of the Opera,”

    Joseph Buquet,
    hold your tongue -
he will burn you with the
    heat of his eyes…

I think, “Jonathan Toews must be in the Opera House.”

  • Hawkeytalk

Predictions for game 7s: Home team wins them all.

Would love to see rags, wild and kings, but 1 of 3 ain’t bad.

    • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

I wanna watch Philly/Pitt in the next round for sheer entertainment value.

      • Hawkeytalk

That’s true, but I dislike philly more than rags so rags it is.

      • roadhog

        And the Crosby/Giroux rematch fight.

    • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Don’t care who wins in Av’s vs Wild. as long as it goes to multiple OT’s and the winning team gets several players suspended.

      • Waylon

yeah, any team with Torres should be eliminated at all costs. I like the folks over at Fear the Fin, but even though they acknowledged how much of a shitshow the guy was when he was acquired, they still think he’s an excellent addition to the team. At least we never warmed up to Carbomb.

    • roadhog

Wild, Philly, Sharks . . . as opposed to Varlamov, Lundquist and Quick advancing.

      • XMF

        Why not Lundqvist?

        • roadhog

Higher ceiling than Mason IMO. Those three are legit game stealers, proven.

      • zacked

        Don’t Fear the Keeper.

    • Waylon

I can’t stand PHI but would be greatly entertained by another Thunderdome brawl with PITT. Very meatheaded of me, but I don’t care for either team much, so let them have it once again.

    • ballyb11

VG, if you are a baseball player.

  • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

The sad part about the Dale Talon story is that we are about out of players (or their contracts) of which we wish to be free.

Maybe St Louis can give Dale a call.

    • roadhog

I don’t want to see Soupy, Kop, Pirri, Hayes or Olsen in a Blues Jersey though.

    • XMF

      Versteeg?

      • Waylon

I know you’re kidding, but I think that’s actually a good contract for the Hawks, provided he rehabs successfully from his knee surgery by next season. Something like only a $1 – 2MM cap hit, since FLA ate the balance of it.

        • roadhog

The money side of that deal is still an absolute win for us.

          • Waylon

which is why I’m continually dumbfounded by those who insist what a lousy deal that was for the Hawks. I don’t get it, since it appears to have a lot of upside and little on the downside if things don’t work out. It may pay off in the playoffs.

          • roadhog

Separate of the money, I think many thought the offensive side of his game had grown. Might have just been more ice time in FLA.

          • Bannerman

In some people’s eyes it handcuffed Stanbow’s effort to address more pressing needs. The value of this deal can’t really be known until maybe next year’s trade deadline if at all. For example, by getting Versteeg, the Hawks maybe allowed Morin time to develop those elements of his game that were lacking.

          • Waylon

as usual, Stan is looking ahead to the next few seasons, as well as the current one. Which is his job.

        • XMF

I agree. I think the Versteeg deal turns out to be a win.

        • jordyhawk

I’m going to go ahead and disagree. If we’re talking next year, I would much rather have Mo in the lineup (at say $1 million) than Versteeg at $2.2 million. I would move Versteeg at the draft.

  • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Unrelated to hockey, but Bob Hoskins has passed away. One of the most underrated (and meme worthy) actors of his generation.

    • Waylon

I first saw him way back when in “The Long Good Friday,” with Helen Mirren. Great flick, IMHO.

      • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Awesome flick, and the first non Monty Python movie ever made by Hand Made Films.

    • laaarmer

      Smee!

  • Country_Bumpkin

Captain Serious is so full of fucking win I can’t even. He must sing the song “Damn it feels good to be a Gangsta” in his head all day. Love that kid!
