Ken-a little trouble sleeping last night?

I thought it was pretty hilarious that Backes wanted to fight Toews in his condition. He really is suffering from some sort of Toews envy.

While I like the idea of 29/19/88, Q-please keep 10/28/81 together. Play them against the Blues kid line.

Shaw-don’t take no shit from anybody.

Wakey, Wakey Hawks-don’t save anything for tomorrow-today is the day.

You almost have to be a moron not to infuse Morin into the lineup. Unfortunately, that should have been done from the start. Now if he plays, every mistake will be magnified.

Stay out of the damn box.

  • Bannerman

If I could only make one change to the lineup, I’d put Regin in and take Bollig out. This gives Q a lot more flexibility to double shift Smith or play Regin between Saad and Versteeg (assuming that benching Versteeg and Bollig is too much to ask).

  • laaarmer

Anybody that doesn’t score a goal or play 20 minutes in the next game should be benched and replaced by somebody who will do the exact same thing and then they should be benched.

    • Bannerman

Good idea. Let’s start with Crawford. does anyone even remember him scoring a big goal?

      • laaarmer

He plays over 20. He’s safe.

    • roadhog

This is a pretty good way to get those who will never get 20 minutes to shoot the puck.

This is my favourite post ever.

If I was heading down to city earlier to grab dinner before the game, where would be one of the better places to park?

    • wardrums

Where are you thinking on going to eat? There is a parking garage across from the Park Tavern, that charges $10-about a block and a half walk. Park Tavern is not a bad place to eat- more on the casual side of dining

    • guest

Depends what you’re into. One place I’d recommend with their own (free) parking lot and solid regular bar-food is Union Park Lounge (228 S. Racine, basically Racine and Jackson). I’m a big fan of the nachos there.

The nice thing is that it’s far enough from the UC that they run a free shuttle bus, but it’s close enough that the free shuttle bus takes about five minutes. Your car is also parked nestled into the west loop gentrification zone so you don’t have to worry about it. As long as you don’t mind being tied to when the bus leaves/arrives at the UC, it’s my favorite way to deal with the whole dinner/parking situation.

      • laaarmer

        Guest. Nachos.

      Tufano’s Vernon Park Tap.
ordinary Italian food, but always good. a ritual for me before Hawks games.
parking by valet or take your chances on the street. may be a deal breaker for you.

      • BigCSouthside

        Love Tufano’s

    • Paul the Fossil

I never pay to park at Hawk games, can always find a street spot either on Monroe east of Laflin or on Laflin north of Monroe or north of Adams. Surrounded by the west loop gentrification, yuppies out walking their dogs and etc, never have a problem. (Such a difference from back in the day going to the Stadium!) And no parking meters/machines on those streets.

      • cliffkoroll

        Here’s my math:

        7 years at about 35 games a year at $20 a game for parking = $4,900

        minus

two windshields at $1,000 per windshield = $2,000

        equals

        net savings of $2,900

  • SuperHawk27

I’m glad the Hawks have a strong PK. It lets them play more aggressive during 5v5 which was their reason for success last year.

  • laaarmer

Yeah, this is a good prescription when the Blues’ bottom 6 is outplaying out bottom 6. I’m not worried about the Hawks’ top 6. But the bottom 6 which has been our strength is getting schooled.

It’s reassuring to hear from Bettman that the cap is going to be between 69 and 70 million next year. I was in the same camp as Lombardi in the worry over the affect the Canadian Dollar would have on it. I’m sure the Canadian Teams aren’t too happy with Bettman though. Not like he cares about them anyways.

  • laaarmer

If the Hawks win it will be 2-2 in the series and that means it’s tied and anybodies series, but if St Louis wins it will be 3-1 and they have a chance to close out at home, but The Hawks have been there before and will be desperate, so 3-1 means 2-2 or something like that.

    Play the fucking game!

I just can’t get upset about anything players say to each other on the ice. From what I understand, absolutely nothing except for their kids is off-limits. If players were actually unfiltered, mic-ed up for any given regular season game, the Internet Outrage Machine would have grist to chew on for months.

Why, then, when the tiniest out-of-context chirp gets caught on mic, does anyone feel the need to flip out?

    • laaarmer

I think the comment made by whoever made it (Kane) is hilarious. A little trash talk never hurt anybody.

      • flahawkfan

Kane or Keith? Doesn’t really matter to me but everybody is lambasting Keith for it.

The thing I hate about this whole thing is the trope that the Hawks are a dirty team. Rosenbloom’s “column” is probably the worst of the lot on that front. Canucks dirty? Really Steve?

Whatever. Go out and win tonight. Just win.

        • laaarmer

Yeah, they are the dirtiest of the dirty.
I’ve got one name for Chicago fans – Dick Butkus.
One of the dirtiest fucking players in the history of sports — Chicago Legend.
          Everybody wants it both ways.

          • laaarmer

But a blind 3 way is fine.

          • Paul the Fossil

Yep. E.g. how much did Hawk fans love Chelios during his prime when he was the dirtiest superstar in hockey? Or go back a generation and how much did Hawk fans love Mikita in his early years when he was the league’s best center, First Team all-league five times in six years and winning every trophy, while being the dirtiest little shit on the ice who every other team wanted to kill? (Before his famous epiphany and reformation.)

          • laaarmer

I have to say that the perception of the Hawk’s fans from their own point of view that their team is somehow above the bullshit is complete bullshit. They are the same as all the other teams, just a bit better. You think, if David Backes was available and Stan could pay him, he wouldn’t be on The Hawks? We would love him.

          • Paul the Fossil

Absolutely. There would be Backes jerseys all over the UC at every game.

          • flahawkfan

Exactly. I loved Chelios and I always hoped Keith would develop some Cheli-like nasty to counteract the fact that he’s not a big guy. Keith gets nasty when he needs to and I’m not gonna complain about that, despite the Gospel of Don Cherry. Sheesh.

      • guest

I honestly wonder sometimes what the people who professionally lose their marbles every time this happens THINK is going on in those behind-the-net scrums. I think it goes something like:

Kieth: Hey man, that was a great drive to the net, let me hug you to show my appreciation.
Ott: Thanks dude, woulda had it too if you hadn’t lifted my stick, was a beauty.
(Seabrook skates up): Boy what a beauty of a rush eh? You totally turnstyled me. Hey I like what you’ve done with your facial hair, can I touch it?
        Ott: Sure bud.
        (facewash)

        • Preacher

          “professionally lose their marbles”
          Key word: professionally.
It’s their job to lose their marbles over this stuff and write/comment about it. It’s why they get paid. It’s why I won’t read their stuff. I don’t want to contribute to their current occupation.

        • Why

This my 2nd favourite post ever.

      • Paul the Fossil

Keith’s nondenial denial sure sounds like it was him. Also sounds like he didn’t realize that Backes had taken a shot to the head (and the video supports that). So the scenario that makes sense is that Keith hears a hit take place behind him, turns around to see the aftermath of Seabrook having knocked a Blue to the deck in a normal fashion (he assumes) like he’s seen Seabrook do a thousand times, and chirps the guy who got checked. All perfectly normal and unremarkable, except that what Keith didn’t yet know was that Backes had been nailed in the head and was more than normally shaken up.

And so what? It’s hockey, chirping happens. The hit has been dealt with both by the refs and league so move on. (And I’d say the same, perhaps more grudgingly but the same, if the roles were reversed.)

        • ballyb11

The phrase “Wakey, Wakey” doesn’t seem to indicate he was down with an elbow injury.

          • laaarmer

Are you surprised and offended that when they go to make a hit, the intention is to prevent that player from having the puck for the rest of the game?

          • ballyb11

Not at all. Just commenting on PTFs

“sounds like he didn’t realize that Backes had taken a shot to the head (and the video supports that).

          • laaarmer

Keith knew Backes was fighting windmills and out on his feet. He was giving Backes shit. Probably didn;’t realize the extent to which he was distressed, or maybe he did and he is an asshole while he plays. I’m OK with that.

          • ballyb11

            Talk to Paul the Fossil.

          • Paul the Fossil

“He was giving Backes shit. Probably didn;’t realize the extent to which he was distressed” — this.

Though I do take TMFF’s point regarding Keith’s nondenial, he may have just been trying to defuse the issue without seeming to point at a teammate.

        • http://www.our-founding.com/ Toews makes funny faces

Keith’s nondenial denial sure sounds like it was him
          .
Disagree. Teamtes typically call anothero ut, by not denying it does not mean he did it, perhaps he is just going to entertain it to be asked “who then said it”.
          .
Much like when Crow took “ownership” for the G1-2 loses. Do you really expect him or any other CHAMPION player to say “it was not me, it was my teamtes”. NO, Toews has taken on “ownership” for loses not due to him for the same reason. Good players and Good teamtes will call themselves out BEFORE they ever call out someone with the same crest on the FRONT of their Jersey/sweater (as Sandberg said, “it is not the name on the back it is the name on the front”)

        • Bullitt315

I wonder if the people who get offended every played any competitive sport. The things I say to my friends are 10x worse than “wakey wakey” and nothing is off limits.

          • Why

I thought guest hit it perfectly above. It’s not just that they’ve never played the sport, it’s that it seems like they’ve never even critically thought about the sport. What exactly do they think is being said out there?

Of course, Preacher might have it exactly right too. If your job is just to get outraged, why bother thinking about whether you should be outraged. That’s wasted effort.

  • Preacher

In other news, the Sharks look good (and I’m still afraid of them). Carbomb is a fan favorite (he was getting all sorts of salutes from the fans!). And the Hawks are the dirtiest team in the league while the Blues “play hard.” (Read some of the posts and comments at SLGT. They’ll either make you throw a brick at your computer or laugh your head off.)

I’ve seen enough of the comments from myopic Blues fans (and Bruins fans with a terminal case of sour grapes) elsewhere that I don’t need to go to read their delusions at SLGT.

The Sharks scare me a bit, too. That Hertl kid is really, really good. He’s going to be trouble for a long time.

    • joedl42

I went to SLGT’s Game 3 Recap thread and read a bunch of Chicago fans “trolling” (god I hate that term), kinda embarrassing. That whole thing should probably stop, we’re better than that.
PS – Not saying it was people from this site, maybe fans over at SCH.
