• Sparky_The_Barbarian

Got confused by the Edmonton article. Read the first line, “Even though not all the money is in place…” and thought I was reading about the Yotes.

  • pstumba

i feel the same way about the puppy kissing, its like they put this out there to mask the fact that they eat babies.

That Puck Diddy article is a Gift from Above to wankers like me who immediately started rubbing their hands together with glee at all the potential photoshop joy to be had at Jackman’s expense

  • Z-man19

I hope the Hawks are resting up, last 9 games are in 16 days. I’m hoping the last 4 games mean a whole lot of nothing.

    • Sparky_The_Barbarian

If we go 5-4 the last nine, the Ducks can’t catch us. The Western Conference could be decided by the middle of next week.

      • Paul the Fossil

The Ducks phoned it in last night vs the Avalanche.

  • putmeinthemadhouse

Howards getting paid…5.3 mil for 6 years.

    • Paul the Fossil

Huh, wow that strikes me as a pretty large misunderstanding on the Wings’ part of the current demand/supply curve for goaltenders of Howard’s caliber.

      • TheFullAmonte

Well, to be honest, I think a lot of people (myself included), expected his numbers to really fall off this year without much of a good team in front of him. Still more than I would pay him but I have been surprised by his play this year.

    • MattC86

If Corey has even remotely good stats next season, regardless of what happens in the playoffs, he’s going to be looking for that money. Yuck.

      • laaarmer

I would let somebody else pay him that.

        • Waylon

Yeah, he won’t have the record of consistency that would necessitate that kind of deal, unlike Howard, who’s been good – to – great for them over a substantial period of time. OTOH, I didn’t think Nemo would be as good as he’s been, either.

      • amontesawesome

It will certainly be an interesting situation because it will be tough to argue against that. I just took a cursory look at goalies with comparable ES% over the last 4 seasons.

        Howard: .924
        Crawford: .921
        Rinne: .929
Quick: .919 (though it was .920 at the time he signed his massive extension).

  • Dangles-a-Plenty

So when is Q-stache going to put Sharpie as 2C? Is he waiting for the playoffs as some sort of “secret weapon” ploy? Given the position the Hawks are in right now, I don’t see why they would need to place him there, although I do want to see him at 2C. Qstache being sneaky?

    • putmeinthemadhouse

hes taking draws but playing wing. thats probably the closest itll get.

      • MattC86

Which is fine. Kruger can play center. Except for the whole winning draws thing.

    • MySpoonIsTooBig

I think the playoff “secret weapon” is going to be what we saw a single-period preview of in the 5-3 win over Nashville the other night – swapping Kane and Hossa to make the top line DDN + Saad. Pants-crapping from opposing defenses in 3, 2, 1….

As far as the 2nd line / Sharp goes, I would wager that Sharp stays on the wing but if Tuesday night was any indication (and if we’re lucky) he’ll start taking considerably more faceoffs regardless of whether it’s Bolland or Kruger in the middle.

      • Dangles-a-Plenty

I really hope he gets moved once playoffs start. Faceoff percentages for the other 3 guys taking draws in front of him isn’t exactly encouraging. Bolland 45.2%; Kruger 43%; Shaw 45.7%. Sharp comes in at 59.6% although he’s taken less draws obviously. He succeeds in the position when put there. And if I’m not mistaken, isn’t Kruges a natural winger?

        • mad-hatter

No, Kruger has always been a center.

          • laaarmer

But is he a natural center or are his centering abilities innate?

          • mad-hatter

            Inherent.

          • laaarmer

Who did he inherent them from?

          • mad-hatter

            Technically you can’t inherent anything.

          • laaarmer

Technically, you are not a natural winger either. And I know inherit and inherent are not the same.
It was joke I tell ya, a joke!
I inherented this sense of humor from my moms side

          • mad-hatter

I know, I’m just a natural pain in the ass.

          • Z-man19

The Natural Ass, could be a movie

          • laaarmer

            Downboat? Really?

          • DesertHawk

            Karmic balance restoring upboat.

          • laaarmer

            Downboat. Then upboat.

          • DesertHawk

Also it appears unregistered users can up or downboat, which is really not cool in my opinion. But due to that you got 2 upboats, as I upboated, realized I wasn’t signed in, and then upboated again to test whether it’d let me.

          • Accipiter

            You can’t downboat if unregistered.

          • DesertHawk

Ah. Well it did let me upboat, or did it just show the upboat and not actually record it for anyone else… The mind boggles.

      • Joe Banks

Exactly this. – Zeus and the Clydesdales

        • raditzzzz

correction, zeus, the clydesdale and the thoroughbred

    • http://www.cheertheanthem.com/ Hjammertime

I fully expect Bolland back in that 2C spot when he returns – especially with Zus settling in with Bickell and Stalberg to make the TALLEST LINE EVER. This allows Shaw to float and play a little wing – which is fantastic.

      • Dangles-a-Plenty

So we’re talking 81-36-10/88 for L2? Then Kruger gets 4th line duty? I can live with that but what happens when Bollie can’t win draws at 2C? MUST… PUT… SHARP… In Middle! MUST.. NOT.. EXPECT.. FROM Q-STACHE!

        • http://www.cheertheanthem.com/ Hjammertime

I think Q is going to stick with 20-19-81 and 10-38-88. Kruger Shaw and Frolik is a dam good 4th line and it removes both Carcillo and Bollig from our lives.

Q’s been to battle with Dave Bolland 4 times now. I think he trusts him. I suppose it’s possible that Handzus drops off and Q decides to drop down Bolland….but I think he’ll give Bolland a chance to redeem himself now that Sharp is back.

      • Waylon

I knew that Zus was good at draws, but how awesome is it to watch him line up for one, knowing that in all likelihood he’s going to win it? Beginning to remind me of Mikita out there.

    • Sparky_The_Barbarian

Leave sharpie at wing, let him take the draws for Bolly.

    • Waylon

This quote from Sharpie – “rugs is great at draws so he can take them as well, but if he wants me
to step in there and take a few then I’m more than willing to do that.”

Well, no he isn’t great at draws, but we understand why you feel the need to say that – but get ready for taking a lot more draws, my man.

      • lizmcneill

Krugs is great at draws on, like, alternate Fridays with a full moon and a tail-wind. He’s had all sorts of FO%s in games of late.

  • putmeinthemadhouse

So, a win tomorrow would put phoenix 1 point back from detroit with even games played. Do we want phoenix in the first round again?

    • Dangles-a-Plenty

Smith seems to be heating up again which is giving me horrid nightmares from last year…

    • Preacher

Phoenix wouldn’t worry me at all. In fact, I’d be surprised if they actually make it in.

      • Paul the Fossil

Yea their chances have to be below 50% at this point. They’re only one point out of the 8th spot right now but every team immediately above them has at least one game in hand on them as do the Stars who are one point behind them. Also right now they would lose the tiebreaker with either the Wings or Stars (the teams immediately above and below them) because the Yotes’s record includes more shootout wins than for either of those teams.

    • Joe Banks

      YES!!!

    • jhb

Phoenix is a shadow of the mediocre team they were last year. Smith isn’t playing anywhere close to last season and won’t get away with flopping like he did. They’re absent two wily players in Sullivan and Whitney and also absent the Bane of the NHL, Raffi fuckin’ Torres with no viable replacements. It’s very important to be 1st in the West. All the most likely 8th seeds (thinking Detroit, Phoenix, Columbus or Dallas) are much better match-ups for the Hawks.

  • Paul the Fossil

That “Conference III” piece about realignment seems to have an inaccurate map of the realignment atop it, which is odd.

    • Preacher

That’s what I thought. Detroit is in the wrong zone on the map, isn’t it?

      • Sparky_The_Barbarian

        So are the BJ’s

        • jhb

And Colorado. But I like the discussion they want to create.

          • mightymikeD

those guys are great. I love their site (III Communication)

    • mightymikeD

that’s my fault, entirely. I just Googled “NHL realignment map” and grabbed one for the article. I might photoshop a better one to replace it (good spot, BTW)

    • justforkicks

      Beware some comments though

  • Accipiter

Anton Volchenkov gets 4 games for elbow to Marchand’s head.

    • DesertHawk

So surely that means the next time Marchand elbows someone he’ll get a suspension, right… guys? He’ll be suspended… right? Hey where’re you going… come back I have questions! Oh ok then…

    • mightymikeD

rightly so, as well. Whatever sort of Penisloaf Marchand is, that was a really bad hit

      • lizmcneill

Agree both on the suspension and Marchand being a dickbag. (The real test is if someone cheapshots Torres. Can’t somehow muster up much sympathy for his hypothetical career-ending injury, I hope he gets in the way of a Chara slapshot).
