• ChicagoNativeSon

    Frolik was Baby Jagr.

    http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=403736

    Can’t recycle the nicknames.

    • Accipiter

      Yup.

    • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

And thank god. We should never reference Jagr on this board with anything but reluctance, and when we do there should be gobs of black bile dribbling from lips.

PLEASE remember (or for those born after 1982-ish, look it up) the Cup of 1992. We smoked both the Blues and the Wings that year, and then Jagr chewed Dirk Graham’s heart and stomped on it. No Hawk is allowed to be Anything Jagr.

      • jordyhawk

If Belfour had not let in that floater by Lemieux when we were up 3 in Game 1 we might have had a chance. Keenan was a master of coaching with the lead.

        • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

That game … honestly, it was the most heartbreaking game I’ve ever watched in my life. No exaggeration.

          • M7

Completely different series (I believe) if that lead doesn’t get away from the Hawks. Particularly because of that penalty-riddled mess of a series in ’91 against the Northstars. I hate Brian Bellows. And Dave Gagner. And Bobby Smith. And…

          • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

            I have to impose a time-out on myself … I’m getting upset.

          • Waylon

but how can you forgot the immortal Dino? Sucker – punching/cheap – shotting cowardice at it’s finest.

          • M7

Yeah, wasn’t much of Ciccarelli fan either but he was already in Washington by the time of that ’91 first round series.

          • jordyhawk

I still consider the sweep of the Wings as the best playoff series I have ever seen us play. Total focus/commitment/discipline to beat a superior (or at least more talented) opponent. We didn’t have the Pens talent either, but we might have beaten them if we didn’t gift them that game. I’m not the biggest Belfour fan.

          • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

Will there ever be a goaltending tandem as ridiculous as that season? Hasek wasn’t yet Hasek, true, but it’s arguable that if Belfour had gone down with an injury we might have been even better.

Keenan had some ridiculous rosters during his tenure here.

          • 10thMountainFire

That season was too awesome for words. Except ‘Hawkvision’.

          • jordyhawk

Jocelyn Lemieux. One of my all-time faves.

          • Paul the Fossil

It wasn’t really a tandem though, Hasek played in only 3 playoff games and 20 regular-season games. It was Belfour’s show.

In Jeremy Roenick’s book, I think, is a description of the young Jagr being petrified that the Hawks would switch to Hasek (who he’d played with in Czechoslovakia) during those Finals. Supposedly Jagr was telling his Pen teammates “we gotta win this thing before they put Hasek in, he’s impossible to score on.”

          • 1benmenno

            Keenan!

          • 10thMountainFire

            Brent Sutter.

          • jordyhawk

            2C.

          • Waylon

I loved Belfour but I loved Hasek even more. I’m still pissed over their ultimate choice in the matter. And then after all of that, Dollar Bill ships his ass out eventually. Fuck that guy. And don’t even get me started on Laarms.

          • 10thMountainFire

Everything would have been different if he had ponied up the cash on the Lindros deal. They would have dealt Belfour, kept Hasek, and had JR and Lindros as their top two centermen.

          • Paul the Fossil

I was at that Game 4, in the second balcony directly over the goal that Brent Sutter scored into. An amazing evening.

          • 10thMountainFire

            Brent. Sutter.

          • jordyhawk

Good for you to have been there. Winning that series still means something even though we didn’t win the Cup.

          • 10thMountainFire

If Rask hadn’t let in those two in 17 seconds…

          • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

…we’d have shut them out in Game 7!

          • 10thMountainFire

I was told Boston nearly swept us.

      • Bullitt315

Glad I started watching hockey after 92

        • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

To put it in context, think of Game 7 against Vancouver in 2011. For me, compared to the 92 Cup loss, the Vancouver loss was equivalent to watching a local volleyball game.

        • 10thMountainFire

The Pittsburgh series was like poking yourself in the heart with an icepick lined with staph.

          • Bullitt315

If I remember correctly (I was young) I started watching the playoffs before the Roenick trade. Great timing mini Bullitt315

          • 10thMountainFire

Saw this from earlier. So you started watching prior to the Finals in ’92?

          • Bullitt315

I started watching in 95 or 96. I don’t remember specifically but I remember the Roenick trade so it was before that. I think it was the 95 playoffs and I think it was the last time we made the playoffs in a long time.

          • 10thMountainFire

’96 was the last season… lost to Colorado IIRC. Krivokrasov’s second OT Roy-beater.

          • Bullitt315

It was 96. I remembered losing to Colorado but I couldn’t find any post season data on Wikipedia so I thought I was mis-remembering.

          • 10thMountainFire

Krivokrasov held up two fingers after beating Roy in OT for the second time in two post seasons…

          • VanDorp’sMullet

            A Keep-the-crabs-off reference!!

      • M7

Down 2 games to 1 versus the Blues, they rattled off 11 wins in a row!

This, for me, compounded the effects of losing a game in which the Hawks held a 4-1 lead. I’m sitting there thinking, “fcuk, is this team on an unstoppable roll or what?”. Boom, Enter the mack Truck.

        • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

I know, it was an incredible run. Agony! Those 11 wins were a playoff record … only to be tied by Pittsburgh that same year once they swept us in the final. I have serious hatred for that team.

          • Z-man19

Agony has been gone for some time now

          • 1benmenno

My name is Slim Shady now.

        • 10thMountainFire

Set the record for most consecutive playoff wins… only to lose in four to Pittsburgh who then passes them in the record books for consecutive wins.

      • Waylon

yeah, thanks for bringing up bad memories, everyone. JR told the story awhile back of skating off the ice after that humiliating sweep and seeing a kid crying in the stands. Still haunts him to this day.

      • 10thMountainFire

It might have been Bill Wirtz that chewed Dirk Graham’s heart and stomped on it… behind the bench.

Putting more effort in to trying to stop a goal against than you Hart winning, All-World, Gold Medal, Captain is doing.

          • 10thMountainFire

            Seabrook’s fault.

  • Accipiter

Nate MacKinnon breaks Wayne Gretzky’s record (12 games) of longest point scoring streak (13 games) for an 18yr old. Pretty cool.

    • Arctic Ice

He’s going to be a good one.

    • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

Still can’t believe people thought that was a foolish pick at #1. Jones has plenty of time to pan out as the better pick, but people arguing that Colorado were stupid to pick MacKinnon … I don’t think they’d been paying much attention.

      • lizmcneill

Well, their blue line could have used an upgrade, but as they’re in the division I’m pretty glad they didn’t.

        • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

No doubt. But it’s hard to argue with the pick, imo. They had what will likely be a gem either way. I just think the either/or argument with those two is wonky.

          • Arctic Ice

For the perds to have landed Jones in the four spot was the surprise of the draft, imo. And now he has an excellent mentor in Webber. For the style of hockey those two teams play they each got great fitting pieces.

          • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

True, such a weird draft last year, with the top four having such different skill sets to offer. But ya, I can see Florida not selecting him with Hedman already there and St. Louis in his elder years. Florida though might be regretting it some day. It isn’t hard to imagine Jones being a more importance piece than Barkov over the next decade.

          • Arctic Ice

Not hard to imagine that at all.

  • thepuckstopshere

        That one got me.

  • nextgame

I just can’t pass up an opportunity to showcase the cesspool of hockey ignorance that is HockeyBuzz…

Stan Bowman (as quoted in the Sun-Times 3/5/14): “We were never in any of that,” Bowman said after the trade deadline passed. “I always just kind of chuckle when I see all these reports that we’re close to getting [the big names]. I haven’t even had discussions on any of those players that they were talking about.” AND “We don’t have any players that we want to trade away,” Bowman said. “We’ve really accomplished a lot over the last couple of seasons with the group we have here, and we’re not looking to break it apart.”

HockeyBuzz (as reported by Johnny Jackass 3/6/14): What never really got reported was how close the Hawks came to landing the prize of draft day rumors—Vancouver center Ryan Kesler. Nor that there is apparently a possible deal “in place” for around draft day, involving Nick Leddy, possibly Andrew Shaw and, yes, top Hawk prospect, Teuvo Teravainen…. Teravainen, I’m told, will be showcased for the Canucks after his season ends in Finland. The cap space would come from moving Johnny Oduya (to possibly Toronto or Calgary for picks, and Leddy as part of the Kesler deal).

    So, to summarize…
    - Stan Bowman is an inveterate liar who purposely misleads the local news media and entire fan base.
    - He’s made a secret deal to ship out two main players of a Cup championship team plus their top young defenseman and their #1 prospect for what will be a single 30 year old player (albeit an elite one) with a recent history of injury issues. Even though he has demonstrated an antipathy towards this type of roster upheaval (unless forced by cap space issues) in his four years running the team.
Seems like the voices in JJ’s head have been especially active lately.

    • lizmcneill

      JJ can’t add. Leddy = 2.7, Odie = 3.3, Shaw = 2
      Kesler = 5

      I mean, holy overpayment, Batman.

    • 10thMountainFire

So the Hawks, a contender for the Stanley Cup, are going to bring a player on strictly on the auspices of ‘showcasing’ said player (who can be observed playing hockey… in Finland…) for a draft day trade?

I got dumber just reading that. I need a place on my browser for the un-bookmarks: places where my internet browser will not link to.

    • VerStig

Lu conclusively wins the trade deadline:
    http://blogs.theprovince.com/2014/03/06/luongo-torches-the-canucks-on-twitter-its-equally-depressing-and-hilarious/

The Canucks are now 11th in the West and the three teams just ahead of them all have games in hand over them. Say bye-bye, Torts.

    • 10thMountainFire

      Bobby Valentine.

    • jordyhawk

I’m guessing MG goes before Torts (basing that on tenure-i.e. Gillis has been part of it longer and pretty much ruined the roster, and that apparently the owner had an active role in hiring Torts).

      • roadhog

Absolutely Gillis first, but remember, we are talking about Vancouver.

      • Waylon

the whole hot mess in VAN reminds me a little of the Pully days here, albeit without all of those pesky wins every year. But unless the ownership changes I don’t think the macro changes at all there. I still remember when one of the owners went public during the playoffs against the Hawks (when they were tied 3-3 and the panic level in VAN had reached DEFCON 5) and whined to the press about the Hawks getting all the calls. The fish rots from the head. Also, no owner wants to pay a coach that much money for doing nothing over the next four years.

        • 10thMountainFire

So we are the old Detroit and Vancouver is the new old Hawks?

        • jordyhawk

Good points. You know what, however it plays out it will be fun to watch from our side.

          • Z-man19

    FWIW,
This does not in any manner mean the Hawks rough patch is over but here are some trends and other signs of encouragement.
-For the first time since 1-12-14, the Hawks are a +10 or greater in GD in a rolling 10 game average (31-21)
-For the first time since 1-14-14 the Hawks have >30 GF in a rolling 10 game average (31)
-The Hawks PK has not been 85% since 1-23-14 over a rolling 10 game average.
-The Hawks PP has gone from 10% to 19.35% over a rolling 10 game average since 1-28-14.
-The Hawks GA has not been exceed 30 GA in a rolling 10 game average since 11-27-13
-The Hawks GA has been above 27 GA in a rolling 10 game average for on 2 games since 11-27-13 (1/28 & 1/29)
-The Hawks GA has been <25 GA in a rolling 10 game average since 2-5-14 (currently 21)
-Only 1 time, for a period of 1 game, all season have the Hawks failed to accrue 10 points over a rolling 10 game stretch (2-27-14). the Hawks currently have 12 points in the last 10 games. highest was 17 on 11-17-14.
-Jonathan Toews is currently kicking ass and taking names at a awesome pace.

I need to read this guide. DLR had me stumped for a couple games…..

      • CozBullsFan

        From the Guide:

David Lee Roth. After the Hawks totally dismantle another team (typically by 5+ goals) it is celebrated with David Lee Roth singing “Everybody Wants Some”. At times the ToS (or just Sam) deem a 4 Goal win may be worthy of DLR due to the total domination that was displayed and/or one goal against was a fluke/trash that should not spoil the fun.

        • Z-man19

          • bizarrohairhelmet

That’s probably a great idea for someone to implement. Instead of having a stationary taco stand, drive them around and receive orders via text messages

          • bizarrohairhelmet

  • lizmcneill

To Fels or anyone else pining for Kesler: his possession stats have dropped off a cliff this season and last. I’m wondering if that has a lot to do with Vancouver’s decline.
You’re at always going to pay a premium for the name and the historical hardware. If Stan’s looking for a centre for Kaner on the market, I’d far rather it was a 23yo who looks like he’s following Kesler’s career trajectory than 30yo Kessler with his bust shoulder himself.

    • http://www.our-founding.com/ Toews makes funny faces

      For comparison purposes.

      Jeff Carters’s Corsi in 2011-12

      CBJ-47.5% (Puke-Vomit in a cup)

      LAK-51.5% (8th Seed, SC winner)

      2012-13

      LAK-55.7% (2nd Div)

      2010-11

      PHI-Corsi On =3.34 (>50%), (1st Div)

      .

So Carter shows Corsi CAN be very dependent on how good-bad a team is.

      • lizmcneill

Yes, but if Kesler was a major factor in driving Van’s possession, he could be a contributing factor to the bad team rather than it letting him off the hook.

        • http://www.our-founding.com/ Toews makes funny faces

It could, unless you change the supporting cast, and even then it will be hard to gauge.

          .

Corsi, in the end, even though it can be measured individually, is still very dependent on who is on the ice with them. Toews will have a higher Corsi skating with Hossa-Sharp-Keith-Seabrook than he will with Brookbank-Rosival-Nordstrum-Morin.

          .

I am willing to bank if you put Kesler on the ice with sayany combination of Sharp-Saad-Hossa-Kane, with any pairing of Keith-Seabs-Oduya-Hjalmarsson-Leddy, he will have a fairly positive Corsi,

          • lizmcneill

Yes he would, but so would Peter Regin. Kesler’s Corsi Rel dripped from being +4% to being close to or below zero. So from being better than the team he dropped to being middle of the pack for the team. Which is pretty much where Kaner is himself in relative possession.
I mean, he’s still a good player, but not worth what it would cost to get him.

That’s fair if he was physically capable of keeping up with the skater. But still… I guess some more time on the treadmill and some squats will fire that cardio and legs.

          • 1benmenno

I’m being unfair, if we know for a fact that exhaustion was the reason for this lackadaisical effort. In any case, I expect athletes in this kind of shape to keep their feet moving when it’s time to move them.

          • 10thMountainFire

Even as humble as Toews appears to be, validation is important to a Type-A achiever.

          • 1benmenno

He is Type-A. I read some “hockey writer” comparing Crosby and Toews, and he said that Crosby’s most important distinguishing feature was his “compete level.”
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone more competitive than Toews. But then, I watch more Toews than I do Crosby.

          • 10thMountainFire

            Did Konroyd write that?

          • 1benmenno

I can’t recall. But I would guess that it’s part of the mythology built around Crosby; it matters not who wrote it but that it has been written and will continue to be written and rewritten. Until Toews kicks his ass in the SCF this June.

          • bizarrohairhelmet

Crosby’s compete level drives him to fall off his skates a little too easily and sometimes punch guys in the yoohoos.

    • http://www.our-founding.com/ Toews makes funny faces

Somebody should send this to Sidney Crosby

      • neo1978

Those were two completely different plays. With the defensemen going for a change, Duchene was Sharp’s responsibility until a D-man takes Duchene from him. Since that never happened, Duchene was Sharp’s responsibility the entire time.

And Sharp let Duchene get behind him by making a somewhat lackadaisical turn back to defense. No question it was a nice recovery but it was Sharp’s original fubar that let Duchene get behind him to begin with.

On Crosby’s play, the puck carrier was already covered by a defenseman and was never Crosby’s guy. Not for one second of that play. When you come back into a play like that you give the puck carrier in front of you to the D-man in front of you and cover any pass back to any “second wave” opponent. Crosby skated back hard to cover that responsibility. There wasn’t any second wave or pass because the puck carrier was on the PK and his teammates went for a change.

That play was on Malkin or more specifically, his coach. If that is the best Malkin can do defensively then Malkin has
no business being the point on the 1-3-1 power play.

And by the way, please take a look at Hammer on the Sharp play; from maybe 4 seconds in. Notice any similarities with Crosby? See how Hammer stopped skating and coasted the same way Crosby did? Hammer gave Duchene to Sharp and went into “second wave” mode. Funny, but I don’t hear anyone complaining about what a horrible defensive player that Hammer dude is…

        • bizarrohairhelmet

Look a the full video link I posted below of Crosby’s event. I agree that Malkin should have covered the scorer better, but the Shark forwards went for a change, which Crosby could see, so there wasn’t a trailer to cover. Additionally, If you watch him, he takes a total of 2 hard strides from inside the offensive blue line and gives up before the center line. He then completes his play by covering absolutely no one (as far as he knows…he doesn’t even turn his head to check).

          – “Crosby skated back hard” uh…ok. Best player in the NHL you say?

          – “See how Hammer stopped skating and coasted” Hammer stopped at his blue line when he was well away from the skater and actually close to an opponent. Crosby stopped a full Neutral Zone away. Not sure those are apples to apples

Again, I’m sure Crosby was close to gassed, but even more so than the PK point man? He was pretty much even with Marleau when they both saw the turnover. The difference is, Marleau skated back hard and got the goal. Sid quit before he reached the neutral zone. If a Hawk did that, I don’t think Q would be happy with him.

          • neo1978

            http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/sidney-crosby–alex-ovechkin-and-the-disconnected-xbox-controller-180131158.html

As Wyshynski says, he skated hard to get back into the play and cover his responsibility. And what his responsibility was depends on the coach. And I can tell you that the coach wants you to do what the coach wants you to do. And the coach wants you to cover your responsibility and not be deciding to cover somebody elses instead. So I don’t think Crosby’s coach was or Q would be upset with Crosby on that play.

And my point here was that Sharp’s responsibility and Crosby’s were completely different. And Sharp would have been more of a goat if Duchene had scored than Crosby was for the one the Penguins gave up.

          • bizarrohairhelmet

Wysh’s noted Pen’s/Crosby fanaticism aside, watch the actual video and tell me Crosby skated back hard. I’m sure Abyslma and Crosby take comfort in Crosby’s effort (of guarding absolutely no one) on the tying SH goal. “That wasn’t my man” fits right into the Pens narrative of that game. No, Crosby didn’t have the same responsibility as Sharpie (agree that is an erroneous implication) and maybe his true mistake was thinking Malkin’s got Marleau, but no where in there did I see a demonstrable effort.

    • jordyhawk

That was tremendous. Sid’s tremendous. Yakkity Sax is hilarious. And now I feel sorry for Vancouver. And even more sympathy for Luongo. God, life is complicated.

      • 10thMountainFire

I think we’re all owed an apology for the Green Men thing.

        • jordyhawk

          Attack them with pointed sticks.

      • Waylon

I don’t think they’re owed any kind of an apology. They’ve been given a very competitive team for over a decade, but now they’re realizing that all good things must come to an end, and they’re too selfish to acknowledge it. While the ownership and management has managed to screw things up royally for the future, try being Hawks fans two decades ago and get to us. I don’t know which hockey fandom sucks more, Montreal or VAN, but it’s a close call.

        • bizarrohairhelmet

The video guy was saying they were owed an apology. I just added the taco.

          • 1benmenno

            fish taco?

          • bizarrohairhelmet

            maybe taco fishing

          • Waylon

oh, I know. Just thought the guy was playing to the masses. All that righteous indignation grows tiresome very quickly – and then he says that the only guy who’s such a fine upstanding truthteller is…Bieksa? Blerg.

    • 10thMountainFire

      Wow and wow.

Forget em. Let them turn into Calgary.

      • Waylon

Quick off – topic post for you. I don’t know which person I mentioned to you earlier that was a self – financed journalist covering the world’s hot spots on his lonesome, but this guy’s quite impressive.

        http://www.worldaffairsjournal.org/blogs/michael-j-totten

He got into Cuba a few weeks ago and somehow smuggled out an entire series regarding the situation there, despite no internet access and being shadowed 24/7 by the security apparatus.

(or maybe I had mentioned Michael Yon to you earlier, sorry for my confusion)

        • 10thMountainFire

You did mention Michael Yon. I can’t thank you enough for that. This is part of my plan to get us off the ground this summer. Russia’s movement into Crimea has sort of helped me.

          That link is awesome, too!

          • Waylon

No need for more thanks. But I thought of Totten as another well – regarded investigative journo, and I find his thoughts on Russia well reasoned.

    • 10thMountainFire

Just checked that email. Hadn’t checked it in a bit… check yours.

      • CozBullsFan

Just saw it. Emailed you back.

    • http://www.lotsofbutterplease.com/ I am not Chico Maki

Huh. Extraskater show them in the top third of the league in almost all the statsssssssssss.

    • roadhog

Sounds like Vancouver Fire and Police will be double shifting for that Calgary game. Ironic, the “flames” come to town.

    • Paul the Fossil

Meanwhile last night Lu made his debut for the Panthers and…pitched that team’s first shutout in two years. Heheheheh.

  • Hawkeytalk

Ultimate meteor game today: STL and COL. Just no 3 point games please.

Who you root for depends on your optimist level. Root for COL if you are glass half full, and for STL if you are half empty.

    • birdhead

oh my god, when did Colorado get to be only one point behind the Hawks? Ughhhhhh

      • Hawkeytalk

Loss at home Wed. Plus they have a game in hand. They went through their rough patch, they’re gonna be tough the rest of the way.

        • Z-man19

I’m not convinced, their goaltending falters even a little and they will struggle some

          • Hawkeytalk

We’ll see, though I believe it will be closer than we like.

          • Accipiter

They do have a tough schedule ahead.

          • Hawkeytalk

Stl wins for the glass half empty team! So that’s one fewer win that they’ll get, lol.

          • Ripley4

Hawks aren’t catching the Blues. Gotta hope for home ice against Colorado first round.

          • 10thMountainFire

Defeatists never get into the ring. They sit outside the ropes and rationalize giving in.

          • Ripley4

That’s adorable but wrong. Take a good look. The Blues have been the best team in hockey; they’ve been fortified with recent acquisitions, and there are only 18 games left. Had the Hawks not blown two, two-goal leads in St. Louis, they’d have left that game with an 8-point lead. Now they are 4 back, possibly 6 after the Blues play their extra game. With all the tiebreaks, that really puts St. Louis 7 up. The division is history barring a Blues collapse.

          • 10thMountainFire

I was going to answer your ‘adorable’ comment but instead I just quit. I’m concentrating on your next post because your first one is out of reach.

  • ballyb11

    Worrisome thought for the day.

    Almost no injuries. God forbid.

  • CozBullsFan

    Philly/TO or Washington/Phoenix?

    • 10thMountainFire

At the gym I was watching both Caps-Yotes and Minnesota-Ohio St.

      • CozBullsFan

Philly just scored to make it 2-1

  • CozBullsFan

I’m watching the Stars/Wild game right now. Can’t wait to see the fireworks from the Calagary/Vancouver game.

    • Accipiter

I’m wondering what happens if Vancouver loses again.

      • CozBullsFan

I could see Gillis getting fired. Not sure about Torts. I’m no fan of Torts. That said, he came into a shitty situation all around. All because of Gillis. I don’t see him surviving the house cleaning that is fast approaching though. If he does, I really believe that he will be a detriment to the rebuilding/reloading that the team is going to go through.

        • Accipiter

I can’t see Aquaman (the owner) wanting to pay Gillis or Torts after he fires one or both, as they both have 4 yrs left on their contracts. AV had a hand in making things bad there with respect to Lu/Schneids when he made Schneider the starter v. LA in the playoffs, creating a true goalie controversy. The situation and how it got to where it is now is complicated and comical from a outside perspective.

          • CozBullsFan

Most definitely hilarious. Would the owner want to risk further damage to the franchise? I don’t know. But you know it will end up happening.

7 OTs? I can understand why they wanted to share the title. That’s a hell of a game.

  • CozBullsFan

Kari just got destroyed. Hope he is ok.

    • Accipiter

Cooke with a knee on knee with Nichushkin.
Kari takes a head on head collision then his head smacks the crossbar.

      • CozBullsFan

That Kari hit was ugly. Hope he is ok. Didn’t look good for him.

        • Hawkeytalk

Just watched the replay; the Dman tripped Haula first with his stick, then with his skate, so Haula lost control (and an edge) and then just obliterated Lehntonen. Happened in about 2 seconds in real-time.

Not excusing the play, but the defenseman needs to take at least some of the blame. If it’s reviewed, I bet Haula won’t get more than 2.

          • Accipiter

Don Cherry told him he should stop. Maybe he listened.

          • CozBullsFan

I doubt anyone listens to Cherry. Lu deserves to get all the shots in he wants.

          • 10thMountainFire

People hear Cherry. They just don’t listen to him.

    • Joe Banks

Don Cherry ripped Vancouver fans for being so hard on Lack.

      • CozBullsFan

Right, cause that was what they were doing Don. It had nothing to do with Lu.

  • CozBullsFan

    WIN IT FOR KARI!

Moore is/was a cheap shot artist who could dish it out , but, couldn’t/wouldn’t take it. It was his own fault!

      Who said that?

PD Comment. Sad to say, this type of comment is pretty common on the article.

        • 10thMountainFire

I picture that scene in the beginning of 2001: A Space Odyssey where they discover things can be used for beating one another to death and just… start beating one another.

Does PD stand for Pudwhacks and Dummies? I’ve never seen such rampant ignorance and meatballism.

The fact that they refuse to moderate that kind of “discussion” is why I never go there in the first place.

it always comes down to follow the money, doesn’t it? I hate this aspect that’s come into play for much of the internet these days. The more outrage you can generate, the more clicks. So glad to be out of the business now.

  • Country_Bumpkin

STL just keeps on winning. Hawks need to beat the Avs next week to get some breathing room. Hoping for the Blues to hit the skids for a bit.
    Hoping.

    • http://www.our-founding.com/ Toews makes funny faces

Home ice would be nice, VERY nice. But given the new playoff format, the Hawks are GOING to face either if not both STL and COL, in the first 2 rounds, no matter how you cut it. First place just gets the advantage of playing a wild card for the first round and not one of the other two. Either way, the Hawks are going to have to fight one or both them sooner than later in the playoffs. The goal needs to be to tweak the system to be ready to play those two teams (STL who scares the shit out of me, and COL who just for some fucked up reason have the Hawks number)..
      .
I would prefer to see the Hawks working on playing and being ready for those scenarios than trying to just win the division. I would rather them be rested and ready as a third seed, than tired and battered as a first seed.

      • birdhead

I think it’s trying to get it to be either rather than both that makes people want to win the division …

  • Waylon

BTW, Torres made a hit on a Habs player last night, and immediately turtled upon being challenged to a fight. Never change, Raffi, you farking coward.
