Look at that picture. There’s got to be a cop buddy movie in there somewhere. Get to work, Hollywood.

  • mightymikeD

Went over to Hockeybuzz for shits and giggles.. tell me does this prose style seem… familiar?

“Sorry but there is absolutely NO WAY this current roster wins the cup !
No QB on the PP, Keith is horrible at the point and shoule be the #1
trade in the off-season if they want to help the cap and get younger.
His value is high again……deal him. Team is totally undersized and
beat up every night. This has been and will continue to be a major flaw.
No number 2 center to score and win face-offs. Bolland is a bust and
should be #2 gone in the off-season if not dealt by TD. Sharp and Hossa
    injuries always a concern. Crawford’s mental softness…………..
after he lets in one, look out here comes more (usually). Bottom line
IMO…….. after another let down in the playoffs, this CORE needs to
be broken up. BYE BYE to Keith, Bolland, and maybe Sharp to address the
    issues.”

    • Sparky_The_Barbarian

      TRADE THEM ALL!

      • 10thMountainFire

        ALL THE HAWKS!

    • lizmcneill

They forgot to mention trading Kaner, are they feeling ok? Bag of pucks and Ryan Miller!

      • laaarmer

        Liza Minneli

    • putmeinthemadhouse

Hard to make fun of him when his main points (beside keith, crow, and his melodramatic style) have been made here day in and day out on this board. Bolland, 2c, fourth line, draws, no pp qb on the #1 unit…. He is over-reacting though.

      • 10thMountainFire

The Crow ‘mental softness’ thing is fucking dumb and meatballish. The ‘Sharp needs to go’ thing is fucking dumb and meatballish.
Proposing a Leddy trade is just plain good ol’ stupidity.

        • putmeinthemadhouse

          agreed.

          • 10thMountainFire

BUT WE HAVE FOUR LOSTS! FOUR!

          • Black JEM

Yeah – but what if we end up losing – FIVE!!!

        • lizmcneill

What is up with the Sharp thing? Is it cos of his post-hitting streak this season? It’s not like he has the worst contract cap-wise on the Hawks….

          • 10thMountainFire

When you try to figure out just what these shitheads mean when they start foaming at the mouth and spinning around like Dervishes demanding changes, you make yourself dumber. Just ignore them. Use them for their entertainment value.

        • lizmcneill

And I’d rather hang on to Leddy now and take the compensation if it comes down to not being able to match an offer.

    • guest

It’s amazing to me. This reads like something somebody is writing about Columbus. We’re on top of the league by multiple points, with games in hand, and we’ve dropped 4 games. All season. FOUR. We have just as many “big bodies” as when we won the cup. Sure, we have a skill team that has difficulty with a strong forecheck, but that wimpy little skill team has managed to go 24-4 in a league full of teams with strong forechecks.

If we had that, this jackass would be frothing at the mouth about how we need offensive skill and we’re not scoring enough goals… Manufactured drama is the best drama.

      • guest

When was the last time there was a perfect hockey team, anyway? Sure as shit wasn’t during the salary cap era. Don’t say the cup team, that year was full of just as much angst (WE WILL NEVER WIN A CUP WITH NIEMI AS OUR STARTER). Who (seriously) saw LA as the eventual cup winners last year? PIT has a roster full of “size” and sid the kid scoring 1.6 ppg, and yet we’re still ahead. Is it because the West is a bunch of inbred layabouts? Or do we actually have a good damn hockey team on our hands?

bold trade moves in pittsburgh. how do you think the hawks respond by the trade deadline? standing pat, or making a splash?

    • Sparky_The_Barbarian

No splash, maybe a tweak or two, including the movement of an upcoming RFA or two in return for draft picks to make room for an Ice Hog or two. This team when healthy is a leading contender. No need to screw the pooch for any short term fixes.

      • lizmcneill

        RFA or UFA?

        • Sparky_The_Barbarian

          All of the above.

    • justforkicks

Standing pat or small trades. I’m ok with that. Lord knows I don’t want to have to cry about the hawks the way I have been with the rangers.

    • mad-hatter

I would hope this would make Stan push more for getting that 2C, but any players we make will probably end up in Pittsburgh.

      • lizmcneill

As long as he doesn’t actually try to trade with Pittsburgh, doesn’t seem to end well for anyone else.

        • justforkicks

No trades with pittsburgh, especially since we’ll prob face them in the finals!!

          • lizmcneill

Oh hell no. Moratorium on them for the foreseeable.

      • raditzzzz

i myself would be interested in a center swap, bolly and whatever picks/possible prospect for the coveted 2c slot. could be done for minimal current roster impact i think. i want a shiny new 2c!!!

        • mad-hatter

Ideally we could get a 2C for some prospects and a pick, letting Bolly go down to the 3rd line and prove why we keep him. Maybe after this morning Stan will feel more urgency in getting a center for the Patricks.

          • Accipiter

Who do you think we could get at centre if we traded the Patricks ?

          • mad-hatter

How about that Steve Ott guy?

  • Sparky_The_Barbarian

Re The Yotes relocation: “The TSN analyst listed Quebec City, Seattle and Kansas City among relocation sites,”

QC is right out, as it throws a wrench in our shiny new realignment. Blues would probably be upset by a team in KC, as the Canucks would be by a team in Seattle (which isn’t even NHL ready IIRC.) Isn’t there a big empty stadium in Atlanta.

    • DJ

If the Coyotes go to Québec, Columbus stays in the West. Simple.

      • CozBullsFan

I don’t know. That would probably doom the Columbus franchise. They need the East more than Detroit does.

    • Black JEM

They could go 0 for 3. Worst sports town in America – well maybe Miami.

      • sc33

Patrick Kane is really tiny or Lebron James is huge. Patrick Sharp is one attractive dude.

    • lizmcneill

Kaner’s tiny. Sharp’s 6’1″, Kane’s listed at 5’11″, but seems like there’s more than 2 inches between them to me.

      • Sparky_The_Barbarian

I think that 5’11″ for Kaner might include his skates.

        • lizmcneill

Seems legit. Suspect the 180lb might also include gear for most of the year, too.

      • Accipiter

Since when is 5’11″ tiny ?

        • DesertHawk

Since it’s shorter than my height of 6’2″. If you’re shorter than me.. tiny, if you’re taller… freaking giant. DH theory of relativity.

          • mightymikeD

I like it. 6’2″ is normal. represent

          • Accipiter

Note to self: be nice to DH, he’s a freaking giant.

          • DesertHawk

My roomie, is 7’2″ My wife is teenie. 5’4″

          • DesertHawk

          • Z-man19

            I’m 6’3″ FYI

          • Accipiter

And a good day to you, Sir.

        • lizmcneill

Note my use of “listed” – he’s probably actually 5’9″-5’10″, which is pretty dinky for the NHL. It’s tallish by normal standards.

          • DesertHawk

I think 5’10″ is actually the “average” for a US male.

      • Paul the Fossil

From shaking hands and chatting with him for a few minutes a year or so ago, I’m 5’10″ and we were about eye to eye…he was a pinch shorter than I am so maybe would measure out at 5′ 9 1/2″. Are pro-hockey height listings like in basketball where it’s routine to round up by an inch or two?

  • amontesawesome

The Iginla haul is laughable in the face of what Feaster made it seem like he was asking for, but probably decent value for who Iginla actually is at this point in his career. I think the fact that this might have been the best offer is a testament to the fact that the three GMs rumored to be involved (Shero, Chiarelli, Stanbow) are three of the better GMs in the league.

    • Accipiter

There were a few offers that Feaster accepted as fair. In the end, Iginla was presented his options (because he had the final say, NTC) of where the offers were coming from and chose the Pens.

      • 1benmenno

Pens? Last night espn said he was traded to the Bruins.

        • putmeinthemadhouse

          aaron ward was wrroooonnngg.

he was the first to report it on tsn (maybe first over all), been busy apologizing all day.

          • Accipiter

            Definitely premature, always embarrassing.

          • DesertHawk

I’m shocked and appalled at the insinuation that news outlets would rush to get a story out, before fact checking…

          • 1benmenno

I, too, am suddenly overcome with disillusionment.

          • 1benmenno

Oh, you’re shocked at my insinuation. Yes, well, my sincerest apologies.

          • DesertHawk

            You’re talking to you…

          • 1benmenno

I’m talkin’ to me? I’m talkin’ to me? I’m talkin’ to me? Then who the hell else am I talkin’ to? I’m talkin’ to me? Well I’m the only one here. Who the fuck do I think I’m talking to?

        • Sparky_The_Barbarian

I see where you are getting confused…

          “ESPN Said…”

    • Paul the Fossil

      Agree.

    • 10thMountainFire

Has anyone seen any evidence whatsoever that StanBo even spoke to them? All I’m really seeing with an Iginla-Hawks correlation is people talking about wanting him and where he would have fit. I’ve seen no reports of Bowman even appearing interested.

      • CozBullsFan

When Feaster announced the trade, he said he had 3 offers. He didn’t specify what teams made the offers. I have yet to see anything that points to Stan being one of those offers.

        • 10thMountainFire

Exactly. I don’t think Stan ever considered it.

      • Sparky_The_Barbarian

Hockey Buzz reported that the Hawks gave the second best offer, and were going to be beaten out by Boston…. Go figure. Stan may have never tendered a serious offer, but I fail to see why he should. I’d rather have our current core and our prospects than Iginla, and if we’re going to trade a Rat or a Rattlehead, let’s get back something we actually need, not another right winger.

    • CozBullsFan

What’s really funny is that Feaster could end up getting burned on this deal. He got the rights to sign two players. That doesn’t mean they have to sign with Calgary. Basically, he got one player for sure, and two maybes.

  • 10thMountainFire

    From the Sassone ‘article’:

‘Rest assured, Calgary was not going to take Brandon Pirri or Jeremy Morin or Dylan Olsen for those of you who have suggested players off the Rockford roster.’

What a fucking idiot. This is a beat writer? I may re-think my career.

    • lizmcneill

So they took college kids and a low-first pick from Pittsburgh?

      • 10thMountainFire

Exactly. I am starting to believe more and more that this was all on Stan’s end… I am starting to believe he was never interested.

        • laaarmer

          I’m not interested either.

        • AMR

Reports say that the final three teams Iginla was interested in going to were the Kings, Bruins, and Penguins. So Stan may not have had a real shot getting Iginla

      • laaarmer

        Liza!

    • rhodes

He also states that Iginla went to Boston. So, not only is he a dumbass, he’s getting his information from other dumbasses.

    • Lobsters

Rumor is iggy actually did not have the hawks on his list. We know there were only 3 teams, and apparently the hawks were the one that iginla was not interested in.

      • Lobsters

Also iginla drove the bus. BOS deal was better for the flames but they let iginla pick where to go, he picked pittsburgh.

        • Lobsters

At least this is what the TSN insiders and other (usually) reliable sources have to say. Of course they also told us iginla would be going to BOS last night, and aaron ward actually confirmed it to the point where it became a TSN headline.

Right now I would enjoy Hack’s take on this madness.

  • JesusMarianHossa

Couple non-contact jerseys in practice. One good, one bad. Sharp taking steps forward while Marian Hossa’s “non-serious” injury is clearly anything but that.

    • mightymikeD

        • JesusMarianHossa

          • laaarmer

Sharp has a separated shoulder right?
            Hossa is just regenerating.

          • JesusMarianHossa

Yeah, I think they said separated shoulder. Yesterday marked 3 weeks since the injury. I’ve got the Friday home game in April against SCUM as my pick for his return.

            I wouldn’t even place a wager on Hossa’s return with MMD’s Euros.

          • mad-hatter

It looks like the Hawks are playing it safe with Sharp and Hossa, based on the tweets this morning.

          • DesertHawk

If he can it’s good by me.

      • Waylon

I’m beginning to notice a meme from you regarding Hossa – that he should either get his ass on the ice or get off it, permanently. A bit overly dramatic, no? Since when do the Hawks tell anyone anything of substance regarding their player’s physical health?

        • Country_Bumpkin

Wow my own meme. This really concerns me since Hoss is an integral part of this team’s success in the playoffs and beyond. If he is not playing due to continual injuries this weakens the team. He got his eggs scrambled last year, he’s been out twice this year and this recent “non serious injury” is looking quite serious.
I love Hossa. He is classy, a beast playing two ways and someone all young hockey players should emulate both on and off the ice. My contention is that he is missing time due to cumulative injuries and that truly hurts the team.

          • Accipiter

Of course that is your contention…
You’re a first year grad student. You just got finished reading some Marxian Historian, Pete Garrison probably.
