The Parises are the second father-son combo to each score 200 goals in the league, the first being very familiar around here:
    http://aol.sportingnews.com/nhl/story/2013-02-05/zach-parise-scores-200th-career-goal-jp-parise-father-son-club
Though the article fails to note that the Hull family actually includes a _third_ member of the club, Dennis having scored 303 NHL goals.

I think the horse head thing is from reddit. They take pictures of themselves or try to get captured on camera wearing a horse noggin. I don’t get it, but occasionally they make me laugh.

    • Waylon

If you look at the guy (guys?) who did the horsehead thing during Hurricane Sandy, it was fairly hilarious – but primarily because they did it in DC when the TV crews were out doing their usual hysterical/breathless reportage. One crew spotted the horsehead guy jogging down the street when almost everyone else was in for the day – pretty humorous.

      • DesertHawk

Senor Waylon, why you no create an account?

        • Waylon

I have one from way back when, but I find I’m having some issues with my particular Android app on this site. No doubt an error on my part.

  • MySpoonIsTooBig

I hate games on the west coast. Damn puck doesn’t even drop until 10:30 (I live in DC). I’m going to have to try to go the entire day tomorrow without coming here, or reading Twitter, or going to PD, or checking out most of the sites that I normally check out during the day if I want to be able to actually enjoy watching it after work tomorrow. That’s gonna suck a lot.

    • justforkicks

agreed!!! I’m going to stay up and watch it but it’ll be tough

    • DesertHawk

As a west coaster ish…. quit yer bitchin :P I miss the start of a lot of games cause I have work. Although not this season, cause of the Western Conference only thing.

      • MySpoonIsTooBig

Complaining about minor inconveniences is my god-given right as an American damn it! #firstworldproblems

Anybody else watch Milbury talk about John Scott pummeling Thornton last night?

    • country_bumpkin

That is pretty damning to be called a living power play. Although I would like some better protection for our guys than Bollig.

      • Waylon

Yeah, guys like Lucic, McQuade and Thornton are talented and also tough – they’re the only reason why someone like Marchand gets away with all of the cruddy crap he pulls. I was hoping someone like Beach would’ve been here by now and be playing a similar role.

        • laaarmer

          Troy Brouwer
          (takes cover)

          • Waylon

No, I was saddened to see that guy go – too much potential wasted by Q, he was always in his doghouse for some reason or another. One of the few brights spots on the Caps these days.

Are you secretly John Jaeckel in disguise?

    • MySpoonIsTooBig

I was shocked to hear something so, well, not completely idiotic out of Milbury. It only took him a few years, but he was saying basically what most of us have been saying for a while – John Scott brings absolutely nothing to the ice but an ability to fight. Why the hell would you fight him? Not only will you lose (badly), but it’s much more advantageous for your team if he’s out there trying to defend against you than if he’s in the penalty box…

      • Accipiter

Scooter lost a fight the other day.

Time to take Taylor Hall off the FH team. He’s never going to score if he’s not on the ice.

    • Joe Banks

Hey, Taylor Hall… why the long face?

  • Waylon

Wait a minute, count me as confused. I was under the impression that all of those rioters were actually anarchists from my home state of Oregon. These people turned out to be…locals from Vancouver! Say it isn’t so, Joe!

    • ballyb

      I’d work on a new defense —–

“he awoke the next morning with no recollection of joining mayhem”

      • MySpoonIsTooBig

Hey if I don’t remember committing a crime then you’re not allowed to punish me for it right?

    • JRF

I like the part when he called the police because he received threatening phone calls after being identified in riot videos on the internet.

  • 2883

The true Vancouverites blame it on the suburbs of Vancouver… and other out of towners.

A fun story from Ken Dryden which mentions how the Esposito brothers treated each other on the ice:
    http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/49520/band-of-brothers-on-facing-off-against-family

  • ilikeanactivestick

“The Crown has approved charges against 173 people in connection with the riot” That sounded so weird at first, like we were back in Elizabethan times.

    • Paul the Fossil

      Off with their heads!
Perhaps a few hundred years from now it will be Raffi Torres’ bones that are found crammed into a shallow unmarked grave under a parking lot. If there’s any justice…

      • MySpoonIsTooBig

Your comment would be much more easier to agree with if you removed the word “hundred”…
