I was downtown before 6. Lots of pilgrims out already. I tried to tell my lazy ass kids to get up early…

    • Paul the Fossil

If any CI regulars are downtown and need access to restrooms in the early afternoon, text me (tree one too too fyuv nine seven won zero seven). My office is at Dearborn and Jackson and I’ll be there from about 1 pm on today.

      • Kevin

Are you serious? This sounds like a joke.

  • chichicagochi
  • BigCSouthside

Enjoy the parade today…you bastards that get to go

  • chidiver

Loop is a sea of red. For those driving, Millenium garage was open as of 8:15. U have to enter from the north on Columbus.

  • justforkicks

Enjoy the parade guys. Ill just be here at work in New Jersey seething with jealousy

    • BigCSouthside

      Same from Ohio. FML

      • justforkicks

Are you able to at least watch a stream? I can’t do that either :(((. Just hoping this shit gets put online ASAP and people keep commenting with details to tide me over

        • BigCSouthside

No stream. My work network has a serious dislike for videos

          • MySpoonIsTooBig

My work network just recently lifted its restrictions on streaming music and video sites. I don’t know why, but I’m not complaining

          • justforkicks

So the stream on nbcchicago.com actually works on my phone which is great, but I forgot my headphones at home so can’t listen to it. What a bummer.

  • BigCSouthside

Hoss may need surgery. Did anyone say exactly what the injury was?

    • Country_Bumpkin

      Disk issue.

      • Country_Bumpkin

To clarify, I meant vertebral not floppy.

    • putmeinthemadhouse

Disc injury is as detailed as I got.

      • BigCSouthside

If thats the case, might not be all bad. Recovery time from that kind of surgery isnt too extreme.

        • Country_Bumpkin

Yes but if it involves fusing the vertebrae due to a severly damaged disc, then that could mean retirement. Fingers crossed.

          • Accipiter

‘it involves fusing the vertebrae due to a severly damaged disc’

            No, that prolly doesn’t happen.

          • BigCSouthside

Fusion surgery wouldnt necessarily mean retirement. I imagine it would be a discectomy with a prosthetic insert, then a graft and small instrumentation fusion on the two impacted vertebrae. He’d probably have nearly full mobility.

          • Country_Bumpkin

The Bionic Hossa? I like it.

          • Country_Bumpkin

Hmm, have you had this done or do you work for Medtronic?

          • BigCSouthside

My sister has had a few surgeries (unfortunately resulting in spinal injury) so I’ve studied this stuff a ton. Spinal injury and Diagnostics/Injury mitigation is actually the specialty I want to pursue my PhD in.

          • Country_Bumpkin

Wow that’s awesome. A close friend of mine works in this industry and I find it really interesting. He has seen some horrific shit but just loves his job.

          • BigCSouthside

Its amazing stuff. Neurology/Neuroscience is like the wild west of medicine in my opinion. Theres just so much we dont know yet

          • mad-hatter

I don’t think his injury is that severe. From what I’ve read, Hossa is considering surgery only if it doesn’t heal through other means.

          • Accipiter

            http://espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/story/_/id/9429326/marian-hossa-chicago-blackhawks-pondering-surgery

It can heal on its own, or (through surgery) cleaning up the part of the disc that is pushing against the nerve. It’s a serious injury, but I couldn’t see them having to fuse any vertebrae because of a bulging disc.

(at least from my experience. I have a L5/S1 disc protrusion and had similar symptoms as Hossa described in the linked article)

          • mad-hatter

Ouch, man, sorry about that. Do you know how long that could take to heal naturally? That may push him to surgery after all.

          • Accipiter

My first go around took 5 months, but it can take a lot longer. For a professional athlete who has access to receive medical attention quickly, I could see surgery being the option that allows him to recover and return to rehab/training and back to playing hockey much faster than the natural route. Surgery can have complications so it isn’t always recommended, but my guess would be that they give Hossa some time to see if his symptoms subside before they make a decision. Also, he has had an MRI which would give them an idea of how large the protrusion is, the smaller the protrusion the greater the chance of the injury healing naturally.

          • Black JEM

You would want to avoid surgery – as lower back surgery outcomes are wildly inconsistent. Let’s pray for therapy.

          • Z-man19

Protrusion meaning the gel inside the disc has pushed out and is pressing against the nerve?

          • Accipiter

            Yes.

          • cliffkoroll

Are you comparing yourself to Jesus?

          • Accipiter

No. I just know some of his troubles.

  • putmeinthemadhouse

Watching the parade on nhln in philly :(

    Damnit

  • Country_Bumpkin

Morning officially ruined. After reading the “tribute” from Hockey Wilderness (kinda funny), a “fan” in the crowd on TV this morning waiting for the parade to start was asked who they were there to see and they replied, “Toes”.

    • BigCSouthside

      Toes is awesome

      • Country_Bumpkin

I don’t know if I could have facepalmed any harder. Whatevs, I was or am a bandwagoner too.

    • mad-hatter

Maybe they said Toes on purpose? As a joke? Yes? Please?

      • Country_Bumpkin

No, I’m quite sure she was just there as a new fan, which although I’m glad about, it just gives other teams the ammo to make fun of our fandom.

        • mad-hatter

Whatever, it’s not like there weren’t Detroit fans saying “why-zerman.”

          • Country_Bumpkin

            Isn’t that how it’s pronounced? Aw crap…

          • 1benmenno

How did Obama pronounce it? Ih-zurmin?

          • mad-hatter

            Yeezerman.

        • chichicagochi

Chicago, being an actual city, has it’s share of assholes who fill the lower stands of the UC, most of them are new here. They don’t know the sport, or the team well and also enjoy going to Cubs games, it’s a party for them. They also have shitloads of disposable income, so I for one welcome the bandwagoners. It’s a good thing for the city and a good thing for the sport.

          • Why

Once other teams win stuff, they can have bandwagoners, too.

        • lizmcneill

Must have been very new because all the announcers are trained now for Tayves.
Lucky she wasn’t there for Jelly…

  • Country_Bumpkin

Anyone see the full page ad Rocky Wirtz took out in the Boston Globe? Pretty classy.

  • Country_Bumpkin

OT, are any of you Bears fans and if you are, where do you post during the season? SB?

    • BigCSouthside

Ive been over to Windy City Gridiron a few times on SB

      • MySpoonIsTooBig

I can’t do windy city gridiron. I had a comment deleted and was reprimanded for calling Jim McMahon an asshole. I drop 1 semi-curse word (that’s allowed on primetime network television) and that’s a problem? Fuck that noise.

  • Accipiter

How much weight do you place on a good playoff performance ?
    (hint: it’s about Bickell)

    Fuck Scott Boras.

    • Accipiter

      Still worryd ?

      • ballyb11

        About the draft.
        About Bickell.
        About Frolic.
        About Leddy.
        About a good backup goalie.
        .
        .
        .
        .
        .
        .
About everyone coming at us next year cause we’re the defending champs.

        • Accipiter

That is a healthy amount of worryd.
          What about Kruger ?

          • ballyb11

He’s signed for awhile, isn’t he?

            OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!
            NOT KRUGER!!!!!

          • Accipiter

            OMG indeed.

          • ballyb11

If we lose Kruger I will be really pissed.

          • lizmcneill

Fro is signed for another year, Kruger is RFA. STAY WITH US FROGGER, WE NEED THE KILL TO STAY GREAT.
