• 10thMountainFire

    Succinct, pointed, focused.

    Solid.

  • cookiemonster84

I’m actually kind of impressed that Roussell was a +2 in a 6-2 beatdown. He wasn’t on the ice for a single goal and responsible for both of their goals? Yeah, this guy could be for us what Bolland was for Vancouver, lol

Great game from the Hawks, save a third period that got a little silly with the penalties. 5 for 5 on the PK oddly makes me happier than anything.

    • mazer_rackham

except to do that you have to be in the playoffs first

      • cookiemonster84

True. I’m not saying he’s had the same impact yet, just that he seems like a player in the same mold.

        • 10thMountainFire

Bolland never really had intent to injure, he wasn’t a fighter, and he didn’t do a tremendous amount of stick work to the upper body. He was simply an antagonist. Big difference.

          • cookiemonster84

Personally, I don’t bother trying to pin-point intent of a player’s actions. I can’t get in their head, I don’t know if a guy is trying to hurt somebody or not.

Was Keith trying to decapitate Carter when he swung his stick at his face in the playoffs last year? I’m sure some people would argue yes, he was intending to injure him. Others would argue that it was a reckless swipe at his body that went high. Dumb, but no intent. We don’t know because we’re not in his head.

I think it’s a rare player in the NHL that honestly intends to ever injure (intent to hurt is different… everybody intends to hurt somebody, pain/discomfort is part of what makes hitting a useful tool psychologically). I haven’t seen enough of Roussell to be convinced he’s actually gunning to injure anybody.

          • 10thMountainFire

Having a team not like someone doesn’t make a parallel. I don’t see any commonalities between Bolland and Roussel other than hatred of an opposing fan base.

          • cookiemonster84

Well based on what I’ve seen on him he’s an effective 3rd-line agitator with the ability to pot timely goals (which only makes him more irritating to the competition), and is defensively sound (hence a plus 2 in a 6-2 blowout). That’s pretty much how I would describe Bolland.

He’ll obviously have to show it with more consistency (particularly the defensive element of his game, just to make sure this game wasn’t an anomaly), but I can see similarities.

          • Hawkeytalk

Roussel =/ Bolland. No way no how.

          • justforkicks

But I don’t think Bolland did really dirty stuff, intentional or otherwise. I could be wrong, but most of his stuff was sneaky, irritating shit, from what I recall.

And hilarious. Broken sticks in passing lanes. Little trips while standing around (lol mike richards), randomly seeing sticks flying because he snapped it out of their hands. irritating the shit out of people.

            I MISS HIM SO MUCH.

          • 10thMountainFire

            Agree 100%.

          • mad-hatter

A lot of it was also behind the play, and didn’t get caught. Roussel doesn’t have the smarts for that.

          • justforkicks

also true. i miss that sneaky bastard

          • mad-hatter

            don’t we all :(

          • ahnfire

I think we think that, but other teams would probably argue otherwise. Van fans especially would argue otherwise. And personally, I don’t think any of us would be wrong.

          • 10thMountainFire

I don’t remember Bolland dropping the gloves or inspiring opponents to drop the gloves, though. And Roussel has more fights in three games than Bolland has in his entire career. Agitators? Yes. But Roussel is more of a hard-edged agitator. David Bolland is a man of complexities. He appreciates nuance. He practices the art of subtlety. David Bolland is a modern Renaissance Man.

          • lizmcneill

            I miss Bolly.

  • derlemke

    boom, bang, slam

  • QCBlackhawk

OH god. You dudes remember what happened last time we Faux-DLR’d?

    • lizmcneill

I’ll take the 9 straight losses if we can come out with Tazer’s head on straight this time. :(

    • mad-hatter

And with Crow out for three weeks this is asking for it.

  • birdhead

JFK said it but bears repeating: Kaner’s second in the league in scoring, with 40 points, 3 behind The Crosby.

    • mad-hatter

With 29 of those points coming in the last 19 games.

      • FakeASeizure

        *boom*

      • birdhead

        *dreamy sigh*

      • Z-man19

        holy shit, that’s impressive

        • justforkicks

He’s only not had points in like 8 games.

          • 10thMountainFire

            That is just plum unacceptable.

          • mad-hatter

Seven, and only two of which have been since November first.

          • justforkicks

even better. i love it. so much consistency. so much goodness,

          • Z-man19

            like an apple pie

          • justforkicks

            now i’m hungry again

          • 1benmenno

I got some sweet potatoes slices and bacon on the grill.

          • 1benmenno

            Try putting bacon in it.

          • birdhead

cheddar or blue cheese in the pie crust!

          • derlemke

I believe he’s had six points in the last two games. I’m pretty sure.

    • justforkicks

      WHY CAN’T I GREEN THIS

      • 10thMountainFire

I used crayon. Don’t do it. Ruins the monitor.

        • Country_Bumpkin

          So does White-Out

        • CozBullsFan

Eager considers that a waste of a good crayon.

      • birdhead

        so unfair :(

      • ahnfire

        no green, just upboats.

        • justforkicks

i know but i wish it could be greened because that comment deserves to be seen!!

          • Hawkeytalk

If you read everything, you’ll see everything :)

          • ahnfire

also if you change the drop-down to “best” instead of “newest” or “oldest”, you’ll get the top upboated comments.

          • justforkicks

now that i did not know, thanks!

          • Z-man19

I saw it, I liked it, I upboated it

          • Z-man19

            look a green boat ^up there^

        • Country_Bumpkin
    • Country_Bumpkin

Oh noez, no one can possibly be as good as Sid!

      • birdhead

account for Western Conference defenses and I reckon that’s BETTER than Sid but I am a loathsome homer/Patrick Kane fan.

        • Country_Bumpkin

I just hate Sidney Crosby, homer or not.

          • justforkicks

i do too. great player, but fuck him

          • Country_Bumpkin
          • Hawkeytalk

Plus, he’s playing a host of shit teams in the East. There has to be a West handicap for Kaner.

          • mad-hatter

Screw the handicap, Kaner will do it himself.

          • birdhead

I said this on twitter and a friend of mine reckoned that Crosby is at 1.57 ppg vs the West and 1.28 vs the East, while Kane is 0.9 vs the East and 1.34 vs the West. Which is kiiind of interesting that they’re both actually getting more ppg vs the West! But small sample sizes. I reckon if Kane had played more of his games against Carolina and the Flyers he’d have a higher ppg vs the East than he does vs the West.

          • 1benmenno

Don’t hate him. But find him really hard to like.

          • birdhead

I kinda like him because I find the vast majority of the criticism of him to make my eyes roll out of my head. Except when he plays my teams, obviously.

        • justforkicks

he needs a 4 point game tomorrow, and then i will lose my shit. and when/if he hits 100 points this year there will be much cake eating.

          • birdhead

Even with this latest streak he’s only on pace for … 99.4 points. Not sure he makes it, but here’s hoping! I reckon that’s what it’d take to get Kaner a Hart nomination over Toews.

          • justforkicks

just needs to continue the multi point games. i mean even if he doesn’t, he’ll have had a super impressive year, with hopefully a gold medal as well and a stanley cup!!! but i’d just really really like it.

I’m trying not to think about the hart just yet.

          • bizarrohairhelmet

Even the Dallas homers would verbally blowing Kane after the game. I think the hockey community in general has declared this the year of the Kane.

          • birdhead

I think that was last year. But I also think people are impressed by him doing what he’s doing two years in a row, if he can keep it up. Which I hope he can.

  • Hawkeytalk

    .789 Lehtonen. Suck on it.

    • 10thMountainFire

      That’s a solid ‘C’, bro.

      • Z-man19

        a decent B with a slight curve

      • Hawkeytalk

        The gentleman’s C.

  • Michael Scott

I know it’s been like… Five games and he still has a way to go, but I like Raanta.

  • CozBullsFan

    :(

    • Z-man19

you know you want some Coz

      • CozBullsFan

nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope

        • Z-man19

          EVERYBODY WANTS SOME

          • Country_Bumpkin

I would just like a little bit. Don’t want to be too greedy.

          • CozBullsFan

Sticking to my guns on this one. It’s not a DLR unless you win by 5.

          • Z-man19

Coz, my friend, let the drums fill your soul with the joy of a dominating win, let it go my friend, we kicked their ass and DLR is calling your name

          • CozBullsFan

We dominated. We kicked their ass. Did we DLR them? NOPE! Not letting it go! I’m the one that’s always upbeat, for the most part. I go with the flow. Not this time. A false DLR only angers the hockey gods.

          • 1benmenno

I am a hockey god atheist.

          • CozBullsFan

            Heathen! Repent!

          • DesertHawk

            Shun the nonbeliever!!! Shuuuun!! Shuuuun!!!

          • 1benmenno

            That’s my people’s shtick.

          • mad-hatter

            Fels has doomed us all.

          • CozBullsFan

I pray the hockey gods take pity on us for his transgression.

          • Z-man19

If we lose 9 in a row, I’ll eat a hat

          • CozBullsFan

I doubt it’ll be 9. Still, history tells me it won’t be good.

          • Z-man19

it happened once, one time is not history it’s an anomaly

          • CozBullsFan

We’ve had 1 false DLR. The outcome is history. If we had 4 false DLRs with one losing streak, I’d agree.

          • Z-man19

only one way to find out, I’ll bet a gumball we don’t lose three games the rest of this month

          • CozBullsFan

This is TCI. There is no gumball.

          • Z-man19

YOU HEATHEN, NO GUMBALL?????? I feel like I don’t even know you any more, sobs

          • CozBullsFan

I thought we were in agreement that gumballs are not given out freely here.

          • Z-man19

Who is giving them out? This is a bet

          • CozBullsFan

Well, what you are betting on is basically giving a gumball away. (I pray I’m wrong and I lose)

          • Z-man19

well actually, I’m giving away either hatter’s gumball or one of Chico’s, OR I’m taking one of yours. Either way, we ain’t losing 9 in a row

          • 1benmenno

            Sing it, bro!

          • Z-man19

            you’d like my tenor

          • 1benmenno

Introduce me to your soprano first.

          • Z-man19

            his name is Raanta

          • DesertHawk

            Stupid tenors.

          • CozBullsFan

you don’t lose on that one. makes sense.

          • Z-man19

so we got a bet here?

          • CozBullsFan

Sure, why not. You’ll be getting a chili flavored gumball if you win. Your suffering will please me greatly.

          • Z-man19

I’ll get you a tequila flavored one, IF you win.

          • CozBullsFan

            Deal.

          • Z-man19

I should clarify, I’ll have Chico get you a tequila flavored one, if you win

          • CozBullsFan

            winning is winning

          • 1benmenno

I still have all my gumballs. I’ll bet two, hoping you’ll win.

          • Z-man19

all your gumballs are chewed, dried up and rechewed

          • bizarrohairhelmet

doubt it’s a gumball then. More like a gum raisin.

  • ahnfire

lol this is the saddest DLR comment sections I’ve ever seen.

    • ahnfire

obviously, the majority is on Kills’ side of the argument re: DLR

no, replying to the wrong post is a Waylon, it’s almost impossible to do here

          • Country_Bumpkin

            Then I suck.

          • Z-man19

          • ahnfire

wait, are you able to delete your own comments?

          • DesertHawk

No, not really, but you just change the content so it doesn’t appear to be a Waylon.

          • CozBullsFan

            cheater!

          • ahnfire

            ahhh I see.

          • Z-man19

still pretty hard to Waylon, think I’ve done it once here

          • CozBullsFan

I’ve done it a couple of times. That’s what happens when you have multiple threads open and you lose track of what you are replying to because…..alcohol.

          • Z-man19

            sure, blame the booze

          • CozBullsFan

I didn’t jinx it, but I gotta agree. Without the 5 goals I am asking for forgiveness for the proclamation of DLR

          • CozBullsFan

Baby steps! I’ll make a believer out of you in time.

  • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

DLR is appropriate, as Dallas last goal came after two non calls by the refs: Too many stars and GI.

    • 1benmenno

      I concur.

  • lizmcneill

Defending Big D were trying to comfort themselves by saying how much Roussel “annoyed” the Hawks. Yeah, I’m sure they’re real annoyed as they fly off with their 2 points. Apparently Ruff moved him and Garbuttface up in the lineup to “counter the Kane line”.

    http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu326/mp3music-pk/goodjob-scraps/goodjob-scraps8.gif

  • BestPredsForward

This Antoine Roussel thing is like Casey Anthony. Most of of us probably shouldn’t give a crap about it but the mainstream media needs a sizable portion of stupid people to pay attention to boost ratings or webhits so they jin up something that doesn’t need to be jinning up.

    • Joe Banks

Who the Fuck is Casey Anthony? :)

      • BestPredsForward

        Good call

        • Joe Banks

Roussel reminds me of the kid wearing a cape in slap shot. I just hope the idiot doesn’t hurt somebody – but he probably will.

    • Marian Brossa

I read “Antoine Roussel is like Casey Anthony.” At first I felt it was a little strong, but ultimately I saw your point.

    • zacked

I actually kind of like Roussel for taking all those stereotypes about European players and shoving them in your face.

  • DesertHawk

I’m in agreement with Coz on this one.

  • bizarrohairhelmet

I have to say that I thought their might be a Raanta Clause that allowed this to be a DLR, because the Stars were at no point in this game. I am sad that I didn’t lose my hat YET AGAIN, even with two candidates and a lot of time.

    • 1benmenno

You were there? So much envy. And Raanta is fun to watch, despite the slippin’ and slidin’.

      • Z-man19

        you envy his hair

        • 1benmenno

I envy anyone who has hair, Kojak

          • Z-man19

LOTS of hair on this melon, envy away

          • 1benmenno

Just keep the hair off your gumball, and I’ll be fine with it.

      • bizarrohairhelmet

Aye, and if you couldn’t tell on the videotubes, it was a meager crowd.

        • Z-man19

looked like about 10 people per section

      • Joe Banks

But you weren’t Meager… you were awesome.

        • 1benmenno

          Thanks Joe. I was awesome?

Antoine Roussel is a professional pest, and boy is he doing his job looking at the comments on this board.

    • bizarrohairhelmet

      Who?

  • CozBullsFan

I guess we’re all split on whether this is a DLR or not. Forget the jinx talk. Getting a DLR is suppose to be a special event. That’s why it’s only invoked when we win by 5. Why lessen it by granting it after a 4 goal win? Why not do it after 3? The whole point of the DLR is that it is rare. That’s why we have it in the first place. Ok, back to your regularly scheduled drunkenness.

    • 1benmenno

Maybe we could invent a fancy stats DLR?

      • CozBullsFan

Nope. Still lessens a DLR. Easier to reach.

        • Joe Banks

This is not a DLR – I knew DLR, and you’re no DLR. I ain’t clickin’ on it.
When we get a TRUE DLR, I will rock and Roll.
Very proud of my Hawks tonight – very proud of my COHORTS tonight!
I LOVE youse guys! Go Hawks!

          • 1benmenno

Hey Joe, where you going with that DLR in your hand?

          • Joe Banks

I’m going down to shoot my old lady, I caught her messin ’round with another man…

          • 1benmenno

            Jungle drums can do that.

      • bizarrohairhelmet

We could invent the MFJ which proclaims that you can’t always get what you want, but if you try, sometimes, you get what you need.

        • 1benmenno

Upboating but don’t know what MFJ means.

          • bizarrohairhelmet

            OFC.

    • Z-man19

Sam made the call, it’s his show. In the spirit of the DLR, we kicked their asses. It’s not like we scored two ENG’s to get there. This was complete and utter domination, let the drums beat

      • CozBullsFan

I’m not disagreeing over the domination. Just over the point of why we have the DLR and what the original definition was. So we all of sudden make a DLR a complete domination of a team normal. What’s the fun in that? We’re spoiled in that happens often for us. Sometimes we lose when we completely dominate because their goalie stood on his head. Is that a DLR?

        • bizarrohairhelmet

That wouldn’t be an utter domination. The goalie was not dominated.

          • CozBullsFan

Getting into semantics. The point is, the DLR is meant to reflect the final score. Winning by 5. Not 4.

    • Preacher

I thought the DLR rule was 4.

      • CozBullsFan

The DLR originated on SCH. The following is the original definition of it.

DLR: David Lee Roth, “Everybody Wants Some” reserved for when the Hawks beat the shit out of someone, the soundtrack to an ass beating. Standard rule of thumb is a 5-goal differential. Do not invoke before the event lest you attract the wrath of the hockey gods.

        • bizarrohairhelmet

That sounds like a revisionist definition…

          • CozBullsFan

Nope. It’s a copy from the SCH jargon fan post. A DLR has always adhered to the 5 goal rule except for one time. That one time resulted in the infamous 9 game losing streak. Hence the apprehension over another 4 goal DLR. There’s a reason for some of us being uneasy with this DLR by Fels. It’s not something we pulled out of thin air.

          • bizarrohairhelmet

The last line was never part of it until recently.

          • CozBullsFan

That last line was added because of what happened after we celebrated a 4 goal DLR. The last line was only added recently because the original author of the jargon thread stopped updating it before the outcome of the infamous 4 goal DLR. You can ask any of the old SCH’rs about it. We’re not complaining about this for no reason. The one time we celebrated the 4 goal DLR, we got burned quite badly afterwards. Call us superstitious if you want. The DLR rule came about from the Triumvirate wanting to celebrate a domination of a team we hadn’t seen in recent memory. That domination was a 5 goal win.

          • bizarrohairhelmet

I direct you to a time in the past when DLR was routinely chanted before said DLR was complete:

            http://www.secondcityhockey.com/2011/4/19/2120807/game-4-hawks-vs-canucks-3rd-period-thread

I’m all for everyone getting they freak superstitions on, but there is clearly no curse for mentioning one before it fully occurs.

          • CozBullsFan

You’re right, we used to do that. Check the date of the thread you linked. It’s 4-19-2011. The false DLR we are referring to occurred on 1-18-2012 against Buffalo. We won 6-2. We beat Florida the next day. After that, we lost 9 in a row. That’s where the 5 goal rule came from. We celebrated the DLR only on 5 goal wins before that. That game was the first, and only time before today, that we celebrated a 4 goal DLR.

          • 1benmenno

Dear Rest of The League: You may think your team’s performance has something to do with winning or losing when playing the Blackhawks, but in fact it does not. Everything boils down to the hermetic ritualistic practices of its secret priesthood, a brother- and sister-hood so secret the Blackhawks organization itself is barely aware of its existence.

          • lizmcneill

Do not tempt the hockey gods, for they are capricious and their vengeance is swift.

          • bizarrohairhelmet

            This is how denominations happen.

          • 1benmenno

I sense a splinter sect in the making.

          • bizarrohairhelmet

*shakes fist at the newer sect in their ridiculous clothes* Splitters!

          • 1benmenno

Zippers on a Hawks hoodie? Preposterous!

          • lizmcneill

Yep. I added the last line (which obliquely references the Streak That Must Not Be Named) when I moved the old definitions into the new fanpost. The definition from the original guide (08/2011) did include the “Standard
rule of thumb is a 5-goal differential.” line.

        • Preacher

I was part of SCH when DLR started. I just misremembered it being 4 goals. I also did not recall the 9-game steak being connected to it. Memory is failing apparently.

    • http://www.thecommittedindian.com/ Killion

      God bless you.

  • CR64

God we’re spoiled, we destroyed a team tonight and how do we respond. Our fearless leaders are fighting like cats and dogs and we are debating whether this a true DLR or not. Not bitching but seriously this is the hockey equivalent of first world problems. :-)

    • 1benmenno

      Preach it, brother!

      • CR64

To do that I need a pulpit. Can you help a brother out??

        • Z-man19

Preach could probably set you up. Ben could give you a soapbox, maybe

          • 1benmenno

Yes, I keep all my soap in boxes.

          • CR64

Yeah you’re right. However if I have learned anything form the Simpsons I can at least set up a craps game with him

          • 1benmenno

Well, yes. The Amish are industrious; we Mennonites, on the other hand, are shiftless.

          • bizarrohairhelmet

I heard the Menn’s were actually shifty. Is it possible to be both shiftless and shifty?

          • 1benmenno

            One leads to the other.

  • BestPredsForward

Wait, are Fels and Killion actually arguing or is it just a stupid Twitter fight. I’m bad at internet sarcasm.

    • bizarrohairhelmet

      Stupid Twitter Fight is redundant

      • 1benmenno

Someone disagreeing on the internet? Doesn’t happen.

    • CR64

      Probably just screwing around.

    • Z-man19

the ‘real job’ jab was pretty funny, just yanking each other’s chains me thinks

    • http://www.thecommittedindian.com/ Killion

Just fucking around with each other. Neither of us have real jobs.

Was browsing Reddit when this popped up on my feed. The Panthers glass repair crew apparently forgot to remove the protective sheet before they installed it and left the ice. http://i.imgur.com/FpVha0j.jpg

  • Toews still makes funny faces!

The Hawks PK is now all the way up to 28th at 74.74%

    • Joe Banks

Yikes! “all the way up to” 28th!!! But seriously, I like the trend, seems to be going the right way…

  • Toews still makes funny faces!

I am going to be at work all day and gone in the evening, so he is tonight’s quick look numbers.

  • laaarmer

The DLR is justified because, among other things, Sam probably had this written before that goal happened, but also, because the goal should not count. He was in the crease before the pass happened. It’s no goal.

    • zacked

Lindy Ruff knows all about that (former) rule.

      • 1benmenno

        Good point.

  • Country_Bumpkin

This is the comment from Ruff last night on the dirty, stinky Frenchman.
“He’s the one bright spot,” Stars coach Lindy Ruff said of Roussel’s performance. “They hate playing against him, and he showed why. He wasn’t afraid to get into dirty places, and he got rewarded for being in the right place. I admire the way he plays the game.”
The Hawks hate playing him because he’s a headhunter and is a world-class dooooouche.
