Missed the penalty, saw the kill, 6 minutes in and finally some O zone time

  • Sopel the catfish

4th line goal? Krugs to Shaw while Sharp is on the ice after a good play by Rosie.

    That felt weird to type.

    • Peanut Butter

I was just noticing Rozi and was about to comment on not understanding why he’s playing tonight. Wasn’t he a -2 in the last game? Why is that being rewarded with another game?

      • Sopel the catfish

Q’s thinking “there’s no way he’s that bad again right away, right? vets can have bad games just not bad back-to-back games.”

        • Peanut Butter

          Q’s thinking baffles me.

  • Sopel the catfish

    OH YEA GIMME SOME MO’

  • Sopel the catfish

Dam you camera angle, that looked like it was in. The foot is above the throat and needs to come down.

  • Peanut Butter

Anyone else seeing things that would normally be called “trips” happening all over the place and not being called?

    • Sopel the catfish

The one against Richards was more of an interference they missed, but yes.

      • Peanut Butter

Very loosely called game so far. Be interesting to see if that continues and what happens if it does.

        • Sopel the catfish

Pat and Eddie mentioned the right got a round of applause when the Jumbotron showed it was his [edit: the official] last game at PNC, I thought to myself they weren’t clapping for him but the impending absence of him.

  • Peanut Butter

    Saad, TT and Toews?

    • Sopel the catfish

Yup, Hossa went to the second with 10 and 86 (10 with 1g 1a and +2 so far)

      • Peanut Butter

I saw Sharp and Hossa but just figured Sharp was on the 1st line with Toews too.

        • Peanut Butter

Clearly Q is blending early tonight. Now Vermette is with Shaw and Nordstrom though Kruger was with them earlier.

          • Sopel the catfish

That’s the nice part of Q’s lines, is they look like the lines a preschooler draws (—-/ – ___—////—-)

  • Sopel the catfish

    CROW! stepping up big

  • To Saad be the glory

Jeese, did Teuvo just fool Toews on where he could go with that puck? Guys need to wake up for the kids skills.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Fuck

    • To Saad be the glory

Keith needs to look behind him once on that play.

  • Sopel the catfish

Someone forgot to tell the Hawks that they switched sides for the second period

    this period blows

  • Sopel the catfish

glad that period is over, that was some hot garbage.

  • Aaeismacgychel

I’m personally starting to lose patience with Antoine Vermette. Since coming over, he has turned over the puck way too much, and tonight, holy frak. He’s gotta have what, 6 or 7 giveaways and a few more terrible passes? Every time he’s touched the puck it’s going the other way. I tend to give the benefit of the doubt to new players who might not know what their teammate’s tendencies are, but it seems he’s just trying to get rid of the puck. He needs to wake the frak up.

    • To Saad be the glory

He’s used to passing to 6th graders, give it time. As long as he’s acclimated by the playoffs, why does it matter? I suppose Handzus isn’t busy right now if it makes ya feel better.

      • Aaeismacgychel

Personally I think it’s a hell of a big iff, if he’s going to be acclimated or not at this point. He’s not playing good hockey, and this as of yet has not looked like a Richards situation where he knew what he was doing but clearly was not on the same page as his linemates. Vermette is just frequently making terrible decisions out there.

        • Sopel the catfish

I have seen some pretty good passes and hockey too though, 10-20-80 was rocking, just didn’t quite have the finish to go with it yet.

          • Sopel the catfish

That one to Sharp was nice, followed it up by going right to the net, Antoine Vernetpresence

        • To Saad be the glory

Then put Teuvo at C and let him fulfill his destiny!(insert Star Wars joke here)

          • Sopel the catfish

Come to the dark side, then back to the light side, then back to the dark side, as a center must cover all territory.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Thank you third period

  • seabsrat

It’s amazing when you get to see Keith play with another defenseman amidst a shift change and it doesn’t look like he’s carrying a ball and chain around the ice with him.

    • To Saad be the glory

      #TVRwatch

  • Sopel the catfish

Hammer looks to Odie, who then motions up the ice with his stick, Hammer then goes for the deep pass. Nothing special but I feel cool when I notice stuff like that.

  • Peanut Butter

Looked like head gear to me.

  • wreckinball

Not going to last unless they play some in the canes zone

  • Peanut Butter

Pretty sure my heart just skipped.

  • seabsrat

I don’t mean this to sound negative, because Saad is the frickin man, but I feel like it’s so often that he completes 99% of an amazing rush and then cannot finish it. If he finished half of the amazing rushes he starts, he’d have like 10 more goals this season. Great player, I hope we re-sign him without any issues.

    • Hockey Newbie

It seems to me that if either of the other 2 clean up his rebound there, we are not all that worried. Not a pretty win, but 2 points nonetheless.

      • Sopel the catfish

I feel like a lot of Saad’s goals themselves are sloppy seconds.

        • Peanut Butter

I believe many of his goals are because he is the garbage man who cleans up the juicy rebounds the goalie leaves behind. He’s not often the guy who breaks away but when he does it would be nice if someone else would fill his role of picking up the garbage. Toews and Hossa used to and that’s why that line worked so well.

  • Sopel the catfish

There have been nights that the Hawks play should have been rewarded with 2 but they received none, I guess tonight makes up for one of them.

  • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Konroyd in the post game: It was all Canes from the second on.

No, it was all Corey Fucking Crawford from the second on.

  • tom woj

I forgot the Hawks were playing early tonight, and then remembered, and saw they were leading 2-0, and knew it would not be worth watching any more of the game. They would play boring, yet successful, Quenville hockey the rest of the game. Just get the puck in the opponents zone, but once they get a firm handle on the puck, everybody skate back on defense and hope Crawford has a great game as you invite them into your zone.
I think and expect the Hawks will win their 3rd cup this year, and I will thoroughly enjoy it.

Except for the 2010 cup when they were overloaded with offensive talent, and Coach Q was forced to let them play aggressive, a style I am sure he distained, but was happy to get credit for it.
Since then, it has been 5 years of often boring winning hockey, and I will be very satisfied with 3 Cups.
With the offensive talent the Hawks have been lucky enough to employ, it could only be compared to Dean Smith winning, yet using a 4 corner, hold the ball defense, with Michael Jordan, James Worthy, and Sam Perkins on the same team.
I really hope they ask Q to leave or retire after this season. I am not a fan who just watches the playoffs. I watch all or parts of 82 games a year, and it has become less and less fun, especially this season.
I want them to hire a coach who plays an aggressive game, yet not totally losing the importance of defense, but still the main focus will be the offense. I will then be able to enjoy watching them playing 82 regular season games, and maybe they won’t win anther Stanley Cup with this new style, but with Toews and Kane allowed to freely attack, I really doubt it.
I can always look back and treasure the 3 Cups, especially the first one.
I am sure I will be widely panned for these comments, but that’s just the way I feel.
