• Aaeismacgychel

What the hell is Q thinking taking out Vermette and Teuvo for Nordstrom and Versteeg? I hope it’s injury yet hope it isn’t injury if that makes any sense because there’s no other reason that makes any sense whatsoever. I am beyond shocked

  • To Saad be the glory

omfg,he took out Vermette and Teuvo.

    • Aaeismacgychel

      I don’t get it. I just… WTF?

    • McGiggidy

what in holy hell does Vermette and Teuvo have to do to show Q that they need to stay in the lineup? It must not be dominating possession because they’ve done that in spades.

      • To Saad be the glory

Well, they got bigger with these moves, maybe he wants to try and check with the ducks, good luck.

        • McGiggidy

Because that is exactly how they have two cups so far with this group. Might as well just start gorilla salad then.

    • hockeydad

      This angers me.

  • TitanTransistor

The contention that the Blackhawks had a coaching advantage in this series has just been proven completely wrong.

    Dear god.

    Unbelievable.

    • HostileHawk

I just about pulled my hair out? And for the love of God, get Bickell off the ice. He is awful right now.

      I guess Q doesn’t like winning faceoffs.

  • ZigZags82

Let’s Go Hawks! Tight, disciplined, and play your game to take the series advantage!

  • Aaeismacgychel

Please, please let the Hawks win despite this insane decision.

  • To Saad be the glory

Versteeg will be so fired up he will either have the game of his life or take two dumb penalties in the 1st ten minutes.

    • Aaeismacgychel

If he completely takes out Perry, I’ll give Q some credit. Some.

    • Sopel the catfish

      I vote “both”

  • Sopel the catfish

I’m not happy about the choices that others have made, but I have a fresh set of Golden Monkey after running out Wednesday morning. We got this.

    • WookRN

Sixers of Guinness. Keg of cider. Night off

  • Sopel the catfish

Really upset about no Teuvo, he’s been playing very well IMO. If anything you sit him in Anaheim, not Chicago.

    • WookRN

      Who’s centering 3?

      • Sopel the catfish

I can’t really tell what any of the lines are.

        • WookRN

          K. Not just me. Kane is already with Kruger….

  • Sopel the catfish

Versteeg avoids taking a too many men penalty, Nordie almost had a good play in front of the net.

  • seabsrat

Versteeg loses a board battle, leads to a point blank chance.

  • WookRN

A thought (here comes the anger) is …. Kane and Verseeg DO play well together… Maybe trying to spark Kane? And he’s a bigger body….

    • Sopel the catfish

Steeger and Nordie are well rested…

  • Sopel the catfish

Kaner is feeling it tonight, I’d like to see the Odie that was pinching at the end of the regular season as well.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Hope Hjalmarsson is alright there-that was an awkward fall

    • WookRN

Looked like he hit the pads and nothing to the head…

  • Tom Fergus

Is this a joke? The only answer we have to kesler is being sat for a rookie who can’t play offense for the life of him.

  • Icdws

Just got home from medical treatment. Is that 42 and 23 on the ice? Are the drugs simply too strong? Tell me I am hallucinating

    • To Saad be the glory

      Nah,its them,42 and 23

  • TitanTransistor

Joel Quenneville book on coaching. “When in doubt, remove skill and talent from the lineup.”

  • Aaeismacgychel

This game is being played at an extremely frenetic pace. Hard to believe following a 3OT game. There has to be a crash that’s going to happen after this 1st.

  • McGiggidy

anybody have a gif of Versteeg just standing next to the bench on his first shift as the ducks skate the puck into the zone? what the hell is he doing out there.

    • Aaeismacgychel

He was avoiding a Too many men penalty on that one. That actually was a good play. Seriously.

    • Sopel the catfish

Avoided taking a Too Many Men penalty, it was actually a good play.

      • WookRN

Hit the bench, waited for someone, came out when the space was open…

  • Sopel the catfish

Holy fuck did Pierre go tanning?

  • Sopel the catfish

I was upset for a moment, but 4 on 4 is better than a PP.

  • Sopel the catfish

If that’s a hold they better fucking call all of the BS the ducks pull tonight.

    • WookRN

Fucking right! I’ve seen two missed trips already….

  • HawkIPA

Dumbstruck at 42 in for 86. Thought I was having a nightmare.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Dumb

  • DJ

    Damn it. Fight back, men.

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Ugh…

  • seabsrat

Maroon, you Grizzly Adams, yeti looking motherfucker.

  • Tom Fergus

Maybe Q saw that Babcock is taking on a really big challenge and he wanted to also. Fucking total bullshith

  • DJ

    Third time the charm, boys.

  • DJ

    Four minutes!

  • Aaeismacgychel

Holy hell, that’s a high sticking. Geez

  • Aaeismacgychel

Seabrook has been beyond awful thus far

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Man… 2nd Post

  • LongJon

    not a good PP

  • Icdws

    The pp worthless

  • T.M.

just saw 23 and 42 on ice. now i can’t watch. might as well read a book

  • DJ

    Four minutes of crap.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Absolute garbage

    • To Saad be the glory

garbage has some sort of substance…..

  • LongJon

next time we should just decline the penatly

  • Aaeismacgychel

    My brain is hurting.

  • DJ

0-4 on the power play, 0-1 on the kill. Wonderful start.

    • D_Smith

Yeah need a bit more from an opening period in the first home game in a series. If it’s boxing, Ducks have definitely won this period so far.

  • Aaeismacgychel

So, now that we’ve used up our whole game’s worth of PP opportunities, we better win this one at evens

  • seabsrat

The ducks look fresher than us. Hawks are looking flat so far. Lots of defensive hiccups.

  • seabsrat

Also the PP has returned to its baseline of total garbage… You had to know when we scored 2 in a row last game, that we probably would never score another PPG again.

  • Icdws

I am still stunned TT&V not playing. Fucking absurd. Want to bench someone bench Bickel play 42. Never play 23 again. This isn’t even fun.

    • HawkIPA

Worst playoff lineup switch I’ve ever seen out of Q. Beyond outrageous.

  • Sopel the catfish

Game’*s not over, Hawks are still the better team, just need to get their shit together plenty of time left.

    • Sopel the catfish

      I win.

      • Icdws

I love when you reply to your own post! Must be the monkey posting. KANER!

        • Sopel the catfish

The monkey and I are confident, thread needed some positive vibes

          • Icdws

            It wasn’t just the board.

          • WookRN

Iowa city represents. Five fans watching outside on a sixty inch…. Cause everyone loves outdoor hockey….

          • Sopel the catfish

I’m watching indoors on my 60 inch πŸ™‚ Christmas bonus FTW

      • Dan Treadwell

        You lose.

  • DJ

    The return of SHOWTIME!!!!

  • McGiggidy

    showtime

  • Aaeismacgychel

    PATTTY KANE!!!! FROM RICHARDS!!!!

  • HawkIPA

    There he is!

  • TitanTransistor

KANE! Let’s see if this team’s talent can overcome it’s senile coaching one more time…

    • HawkIPA

Stars are going to need to Q proof this game. 88 never ceases to amaze.

  • DJ

Yeesh. If you’re Anaheim, you’re thinking “we outplayed them, and it’s still even on the board. Missed opportunity.”

    • Sopel the catfish

Pretty much a perfect road 1st period

      • DJ

As long as you keep playing that way, and as long as the Hawks don’t amp it up. Neither is automatic.

  • DJ

Bicks said “it was funny. We were pinned in, Kane’s on the ice for maybe ten seconds…and scores.”

  • Aaeismacgychel

Sooooooo… That was crazy fast paced and sloppy. I half expect a complete slogfest the rest of the way.

  • seabsrat

So… Vermette and Teravainen are HEALTHY scratches right? Like.. Has anyone explained why they’re not playing?

    • Icdws

Q wants to tire out the forwards to build team unity. 42 and 23 are the equivalent of 44 and 5.

  • HawkIPA

According to Naveau, Vermette’s wife is imminently giving birth. Explains that switch. But then there is 23 for 86 – no rhyme nor reason

    • DJ

Maybe if he wants to be a bit more physical. I don’t know. I’d prefer TT; he seems to me to be better able to do the things that win games: score, pass, skate…

      • Sopel the catfish

Those things aren’t related to hockey

        • DJ

          πŸ™‚

Another thought — he loses an experienced player in Vermette with his family issue. Maybe he figured he wanted to get some experience back in the lineup with Versteeg.

Trying to make sense of this is not a rewarding exercise.

          • Sopel the catfish

            You just need another beer.

          • DJ

            That wouldn’t help; I’m not a drinker. Maybe a Coca-Cola…

          • Sopel the catfish

Do Marijuana then, that’s what the cool kids are doing.

          • seabsrat

Maybe Q just saw the movie “The Number 23”?

          • WookRN

Well rested? Kane and Versteeg together?

          • cza

Well that sucked. Way to drain all life out of the offense.

    • Black JEM

OK – I feel a little better – they were in Arizona, no expectation to be playing hockey now if he were there!

      • Sopel the catfish

“Due date in May? That works with my schedule” Vermette 9 months ago.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Not a real good start to the 2nd. We’ve gotta step this up a bit

    • Icdws

Gettin it handed to us now. The ice really sux tonight doesn’t help

  • Icdws

NBC loves ducks 4th line like catfish loves monkey beer

  • TitanTransistor

Hawks forward depth has been completed fucked up by Q’s imbecile roster changes. The 4th line is a shell of itself and the 3rd line is a no-show.

    • Aaeismacgychel

If the rumors are true that Vermette’s out due to his wife’s pregnancy, the decision makes a lot more sense.

      • TitanTransistor

Where did you hear those rumors? I’ve heard everything from injured to healthy scratch for lack of production murmured

        • To Saad be the glory

Dipshits on cbc said he hadn’t scored in 5 games, nothing else.

    • seabsrat

Top 2 lines are gonna have to get it done tonight.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Good recovery by 4 there

  • Sopel the catfish

Did doc just call 23 Vermette?

    • Aaeismacgychel

      yes

    • Icdws

      Vermette: “zoot allure, Monsieur Medcin”

    • McGiggidy

he also said that stoner was sure footed and dependable because he is third on the team in hits.

      • Sopel the catfish

Did you see the article I linked earlier today about the Duck’s coaching choice to use Stoner? THe article was pretty good but the comments were god awful.

        • McGiggidy

no I didn’t catch it. I am amazed at how bad wiesniewski must be if he can’t scratch the lineup in front of stoner.

  • Sopel the catfish

Toews is feeling it too, his turn is next. Soon.

  • TitanTransistor

I for one am shocked that Q’s lineup decisions have rendered the bottom six utterly useless.

Shame considering how great they’ve been for the previous series and 2 games.

    • Pierre Wolfthing

Totally agreed. Having a hard time getting it outa my head and focusing on the game.

    • Icdws

No TT is ludicrous. Somebody needs to explain to me exactly what Nordstrom adds.

      • Black JEM

        Grit dammit!

      • Pierre Wolfthing

VerStupid or Nordy for TT????? You gotta be shittin’ me.

  • Sopel the catfish

Holy shit awesome save by Crow, my heart stopped for a second as the duck held that puck

    • Sopel the catfish

      Or the net, whatever

  • HawkIPA

New 3rd line has been brutal

  • Tom Fergus

If I hear Pierre suck “Clayton’s” dick one more time…

  • Pierre Wolfthing

I’m having a real hard time getting it out of my head too. Wish he wouldn’t of fucked with the lines.

  • McGiggidy

anyone else terrified of the thought that these lineups are going to be here for the rest of the series? Q doesn’t take out versteeg once he’s in the lineup.

    • Sopel the catfish

The lineup may not change, but the lines won’t stay the same longer than 2 shifts

    • Black JEM

You could pull Bickell I guess – he can’t hold the puck ever, but this is foolish like crazy – again, unless someone is hurt or sick.

      • DJ

Downthread someone reported that Vermette’s wife is in labor (it would be their first child). Whatever the reason, the bottom two lines haven’t contributed much.

      • WookRN

        He’s had a couple good entries and a nice shit….not nothing…

    • Pierre Wolfthing

      Totally terrified.

    • HawkIPA

Nordstrom, no, but 23 is going to have to mess up big to be back in the press box. Probably will take a loss.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Come on Steeg

  • LongJon

is it bad that i dont want 23 to score? because we will be here for the rest of the playoffs

    • Pierre Wolfthing

      No…

  • Pierre Wolfthing

    No

  • Sopel the catfish

3rd monkey for the third goal, I’m calling on Toews. let’s do this.

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Damn… Fantastic save by Andersen

  • Pierre Wolfthing

Ok, I’m going to try and put this lineup change aside and focus on watching the Hawks win.

  • Pierre Wolfthing

    Crow!!!!

  • Sopel the catfish

    Fuck

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Frak

  • Pierre Wolfthing

    Motherfuck

  • Icdws

    Thanks nordy

  • Black JEM

    Nordstrom on for both against

  • Black JEM

Our 4th line is nothing tonight

  • TitanTransistor

Nordstrom on the ice for both goals.

    • Pierre Wolfthing

      Big surprise…

  • Pierre Wolfthing

    Big surprise

  • TitanTransistor

Joel Quenneville cannot be fired soon enough. The man is senile and actively kneecapping this team for the second year in a row.

    • Black JEM

He wasn’t willing to just disable one line – he wasn’t going to trust TT or Sharp as third line center

  • Icdws

That was shit. Thanks Q for turning 4 lines into 2. The man is a genius

  • Sopel the catfish

Ducks slightly push puck into the net after the period ended (wasn’t shot against Crow) bad mojo for that. Third period will be good (or maybe the 4th….)

    • Icdws

Stay positive my friend. I need it. Not a silver lining type of guy.

      • Sopel the catfish

I am the positive good vibes (not a hippie even it almost sounds like it) guy. It is confidence based on past and relatively recent play. These are still The Chicago Blackhawks.

        • To Saad be the glory

          Thank you

  • HawkIPA

What has Nordstrom ever brought to the table. What a waste

  • seabsrat

Dang.. Not a great goal given up there. We need some sustained pressure. I’m feeling the 1st line is gonna get us one next period. Saad.

He needs to be awoken this series. Rise.

    • Aaeismacgychel

Crawford guessed wrong. Thought a shot from the pint was coming but it never did and he didn’t have sight of where the puck went. Unfortunate.

  • Black JEM

I would expect another shuffle – drop Shaw back to fourth – sit versteeg, bickell, Nordstrom – move sharp up with Kane and Richards. Spot the afterthoughts with Nordstrom at center for 1 or 2 minutes – max

    • Black JEM

And DDN in final 5 minutes if needed

    • Aaeismacgychel

I don’t think Versteeg has been awful so far tonight. He’s had chances and hasn’t done anything stupid yet. Nordstrom has been pretty awful

      • Black JEM

But you aren’t going to limit Sharp – Versteeg will draw the short straw.

      • Pierre Wolfthing

Agreed, but the fact that he totally fucked with the lines that were playing better an better is infuriating.

  • Icdws

Time to go nuclear. If we only have a chance with 2 lines may as well just make it one. 88-19-81

  • Pierre Wolfthing

Agreed, but the fact that he fucked with the lines that were playing good is infuriating.

  • HawkIPA

If Vermette is out for family reasons, why not have Shaw center TT and Sharp, and put Versteeg on the 4th line. Nordstrom is incomprehensible.

    • Pierre Wolfthing

      Ding ding ding!!!!

    • DJ

Is it a perceived like-for-like substitution?

      • Aaeismacgychel

Yeah, I think so. I think the move was Nordstrom (defensive specialist) for Vermette (defensive specialist). He then didn’t want two young kids out there and thought he needed a veteran presence and a little more flexibility so he went Versteeg for TT. That’s my best guess.

  • Icdws

I’m thinking I’d rather see car bomb just beating on perry than 42 or 23 on ice

  • HawkIPA

Still livid over lineups and it’s the third period. I need to calm down and trust the big guns to get it done – but I’m having a hard time doing that.

    • Pierre Wolfthing

Yer not alone. I wish it wasn’t distracting me but it is. Someone’s going to need to give an excellent dissertation to explain why I’m being irrational.

  • To Saad be the glory

Maybe we will get lucky and Q will release the Kracken tonight. #yeahright.

  • ZigZags82

Let’s Go Hawks! Tight, disciplined, and play your game for the comeback to win this game!

  • HawksRule

I have nicknamed Nordstrom “Haley” … as in “Haley’s Comet” since he only scores once in every 76 games.
Nordstrom was on the ice for the Ducks second goal. Nordstrom adds nothing!
Total joke that Teuvo gets pulled out!
Versteeg has been milking his 2010 season for 5 years! Totally useless in Toronto, Philadelphia, Florida, and helped cost us the Cup last year.
The only time Versteeg might get some points is if he plays with Kane (arguably the world’s most gifted offensive forward). Versteeg stinks!

  • HawkIPA

It’s going to be hard to sustain any pressure with lines 3 and 4 getting pinned every shift. Q needs to double shift Kane and Saad to get through this mess. I’m at a loss for what else can be done, except hope that Stoner does something stupid, which is always a possibility.

  • Sopel the catfish

Kane, Toews, and then 20/29 will be brought together to destroy this game. And next game Vermie will be back, and we all know how well Hawks players do in their first game back after having a baby. LET’S GO HAWKS!

  • Aaeismacgychel

This Richards-Kane line is going to bag another one.

  • HawkIPA

    And Nordstrom fails upwards

  • Sopel the catfish

    Weak ass icing call.

  • Pierre Wolfthing

    WTF is with these lines???

    • Sopel the catfish

Gotta be doing lines to understand these lines

  • Aaeismacgychel

Richards and Kane are beasting. This is theirs. Next shift

  • Pierre Wolfthing

    Nice acting job Shawsy

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Dammit, guys. Efffing score.

  • TitanTransistor

Joel Quenneville’s power-play system is as disgraceful as his lineup decisions. He needs to be gone this off-season.

  • HawkIPA

    What the hell was that?

    • Aaeismacgychel

      A disgrace of a PP

  • Sopel the catfish

    Amazing play by Odie

  • Pierre Wolfthing

The comparison of watching Versteeg trying to enter the zone and TT doing the same is night and day.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Oh good effing lord, Pierre. Yes, weak glove side Crawford. Frak you.

  • Icdws

    Anderson=Smith 2012. Q=Pete Carroll

  • Sopel the catfish

UGGGGHHHHH, versteeg was so close to making a decent play there

  • Ralph Martoni

Our offense is a Hawkster F***!!!

  • Sopel the catfish

Do not compare Perry to JR, that is an insult to JR

  • TitanTransistor

Joel Quenneville lost the Blackhawks this game.

What kind of fucking moron takes a team that won 5 of the last 6, breaks up the lineup, including the line that dominated every time they were on the ice and won the winning goal?!

    • Sopel the catfish

Last I checked the game wasn’t over.

      • DJ

Well, if he had no choice on Vermette (he wasn’t in warmup), he decides to go like-for-like with…Nordstrom? Not what I’d do, but he may have felt he needed a defensive specialist. Then he needs experience (so he thinks) and goes with Versteeg.

Versteeg wasn’t horrible tonight, but Nordstrom is a -2. I suspect the Game 2 lineup will return for Game 4.

  • Aaeismacgychel

We just need to get Richards the puck with someone in front of Andersen. He’ll tie this. I have faith.

  • Sopel the catfish

“Kane doesn’t anticipate Perry going to his knees” With as big of a cocksucker that Perry is everyone should assume he will drop to his knees when given the chance.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Too many passes

  • DJ

    Empty net…

  • GoldenJet

    C’mon

  • Sopel the catfish

Crow needs to ditch the black mask

  • HawkIPA

Versteeg as the extra attacker – why stop now?

  • DJ

Death of a thousand cuts here.

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Oh man…

  • DJ

Crap. Effective six-on-four there and they dodge the bullet. Now the time out.

  • Sopel the catfish

Monkey 5 for the tie and ensuing win!

  • GoldenJet

    Arghhhhhhh

  • DJ

0-5 on the power play is a killer.

  • TitanTransistor

Anybody remember the days when Hossa could score goals with a goalie in the net?

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Kane-Toews-Richards-Shaw-Keith-Seabrook. Tie this motherfucker up

  • DJ

    Gah!

  • DJ

    Fuck me.

  • GoldenJet

    Fuck

  • Sopel the catfish

    Dumb shit fuck the ducks

  • Aaeismacgychel

    My gosh… Damn… God damn

  • DJ

Shitty power play plus a neutralized bottom six. Very disappointing.

  • DJ

This series is not over. We can win in Anaheim.

    • Sopel the catfish

      Have won, and will win.

    • DanO

We already did, but shouldn’t have to again. Home ice, last line change, means nothing when your coach puts you in a position to lose.

      • ZigZags82

Split could have come anyway. Have won will won in Anaheim.

  • Aaeismacgychel

No Kane magic there. That’s just, just wrong

  • GoldenJet

    So…where was TT?

  • Sopel the catfish

Teuvo would have been nice to see anywhere on the shit ass fucking terrible clownshoes PP.

    • DJ

0-5. Including a four-minute one. One total shot in those PPs. That is utterly unacceptable.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Well, this postgame presser should be intriguing.

  • HawkIPA

No one to blame but Q for this. Worst lineup moves I’ve ever seen. Took a shotgun to the bottom six. Inexcusable.

    • Pierre Wolfthing

Q needs to give a godamn brilliant explanation for his fuckery with the lines. I hope one of these reporters has the ballsack to grill him on it.

      • Dan Treadwell

They won’t. They never. Bunch of no balls ass kissers. Just what the organization wants.

      • ZigZags82

They do grill him. They can’t force him to say anything. If he doesn’t want to talk about it. He won’t. Nothing any questions pressure can do.

  • Icdws

Thanks Q. That game sucked from start to finish.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Please say Vermette was with his wife and TT had a headache.

  • DJ

Let the fellating of Anaheim resume. God DAMN it!

    • HawkIPA

If the national media scorched Q instead, maybe we’d at least have some good to take away from this – but I doubt he’s pressed on it at all.

  • seabsrat

Felt like the Hawks were playing 6 forwards and 2 defenseman all night tonight…

  • Brandon Murray

The only thing I’ll say about this is “Thanks Q for making a horrible cock sucking ball juggling decision to bench Vermette & TT for the ass clown Versteeg”. Horrible. Just awful. Also, NBC seems to be licking Duck shaft at every turn. Just get it back to 2-2 and call it a best of 3.

    • DJ

      Nordstrom was the minus-two.

      • Brandon Murray

I know but Versteeg did awful things all night. Vermette wins faceoffs & TT makes tape to tape passes. All Versteeg does is fumble the puck off the stick.

        • DJ

Don’t get me wrong, I prefer the Game 2 lineup. But if he could not use Vermette, that’s a bit mitigating.

0-5 power play. It’s not like losing those two should have affected them. The power play was awful. Beyond awful.

          • ZigZags82

It really should have though when you got railed at the dot, especially so many offensive zone draws and your offense and passing lacked oopmh

  • Blackhawk Pete

Quick Fire Q before its too late Its last year all over again with the lineup incompetence.

  • HawkIPA

Dressing Nordstrom again over TT should be a fireable offense. What more does he need to show you, Q?

  • Brandon Murray

Andersen channeling well anyone but himself because he’s never been this good.

  • HawkIPA

The first 5 words out of Q’s mouth in the locker room need to be, “my bad, not your fault.”

  • To Saad be the glory

Nice quaint lineup tonight, for a Wed night game in Carolina in the middle of January. God damn Q,wtf?

  • TitanTransistor

Nordstrom -2 with 6 minutes of ice time.

Well done Joel, you fucking fraud.

Sure would have hated to see 11-16-65 skating out there… you know, the line that pretty much shut down Anaheim’s top line on their own home ice and scored the winning goal last night?

I profoundly hope the Chicago Blackhawks part ways with Joel Quenneville this off-season. The man is so far off the reservation, he can’t even fucking see it.

  • Brandon Murray

Oh & did you hear the Ducks are big and physical? Did you know they hit? Penisloaf looks like he has ginger pubic hair growing from his face. Pierre’s interviews are just scintillating.

  • Brandon Murray

I hate to say it but where is #19? Been a non factor but not from a lack of trying.

    • DJ

      21-6 on draws, he was.

      • Brandon Murray

Faceoffs were stellar, just looking for a goal or two in that typical tenacious way. It will come.

        • ZigZags82

19 tends to come through with those tenacious goals when we REALLY need them yes.

  • Dan Treadwell

I don’t think I’ve been so fucking pissed. I wasn’t this upset over Game 6 at Wrigley in 2003. Joel fucking Quenneville has got to be the most fucktarded person in Illinois. His bullshit line tinkering cost this team the game, and probably the series. I hope to Christ Bowman cans his ass next week after the Hawks are eliminated.

    • Hockey Newbie

Q sucks, and today’s moves were confounding, but already counting the series over after game 3 is pretty dire!! You have watched this team before, right?

    • Bob Lanz

Rauner beats out Q… But not by much.

    • DanO

Nail on the head. Vermette, ok if he was wife his wife about to deliver their child. But no excuse to take TT out. Could we have used those hands in a 1 goal loss? Was I imagining all the chances he and Sharp generated in the OTs in Game 2? I don’t buy the whole sky isn’t falling crap that others want to believe. Worked so hard to get the road win and it was pissed away by Q once again putting them in a position to fail. Being out coached by Boudreau is quite the amazing feat. Best case scenario is we win on Saturday and the series goes 7. And we’ll be beat to shit by the time the Finals start with no 10 day break this time. So. Fucking. Pissed.

      • ZigZags82

If we can somehow get this in 6….

  • T.M.

    so, how was the game?

  • Pierre Wolfthing

Well, that fucking blew…. I would of been been upset they lost with the line up they had been playing but this fuckery with the lines is going to really stick in my craw. Gezuss I really hope they pull this out…

  • WookRN

PP. Died on special teams. Granting, losing the second line hurt.

  • WookRN

Oh. And can we switch officials with the ECF?

    • DJ

Can’t blame the refs for a crappy power play

      • WookRN

don’t get me wrong, our power play is hurting themselves on their own. However, that being said the other series being played is being called a lot tighter than ours

  • Aaeismacgychel

Listening to radio. Something happened between the morning skate and tonight for Vermette. There was no plan for him not to be playing tonight. People trying to figure out what happened. Very quiet.

    • Sopel the catfish

Gotta go with the wife/baby rumors we’ve been hearing

      • Aaeismacgychel

Yeah, right now I’m giving benefit of the doubt here and there was a complication that arose after morning skate.

        • HawkIPA

Yeah. Can’t fault anyone for that. But that still leaves us with TT’s benching. He may not be a “4th liner” but Nordstrom and Versteeg aren’t NHL players – not for this team.

      • ZigZags82

Yeah he’s 100% healthy. It was the baby.

  • To Saad be the glory

Sometimes I think he does this shit early on in a series on purpose to see what works and what don’t later. That’s why the Hawks are so strong the later a series gets. It’s one thing to have confidence in your team to come back, but god damn this shit gets old real quick.

    • DJ

Well, if that’s what is going on here, the Game 2 lineup is the way to go. That said, they still have to address the power play.

    • Icdws

He already had two series to test the lines. This thing tonight was inexcusable. I’d rather have seen Hartman and DeNault than those two turds

      • Icdws

        DJ I miss moused you

        • DJ

          No sweat. It happens.

    • Pierre Wolfthing

Geez, hope your right. Hope it doesn’t bite us in the ass – it’s playing with fire.

      • Icdws

No shit. Despite what we were told, the ducks can play hockey at a high level and are raking it to us.

  • Pierre Wolfthing

I’m starting to wonder what Q’s ego level is. He’s right on the edge….

    • HawkIPA

Babcock had a few beers after signing that ludicrous deal, then pulled a Jedi mind trick on Q for fun. Makes as much sense as anything else.

      • Pierre Wolfthing

        I’ll buy it…

      • To Saad be the glory

Good luck Babcock. Someone in hockeystreams.com game chat last night said “I hope Babcock enjoyed the flight,’cause its the last time he will see wings with the Leafs logo on them doing their job” I lol’d so hard I spit out my soda.

  • DJ

Still waiting for the pressed. THe morning skate was optional. TT was there, Vermette was not.

  • To Saad be the glory

Funny we’re not bitching about the D tonight.

    • DJ

Murray on the radio said the D wasn’t a problem. They weren’t sluggish. The top 4 had most of the ice time. The power play needs to show up.

Hawks – 9+ minutes of PP time. One shot.

Ducks — less than 30 seconds. One goal.

  • Sopel the catfish

Loss sucks, personnel decisions were bad. That being said it is only one game. One game. Boo hoo now we are down in the series. Adjust (hopefully) and move forward. Never though this was going to be easy but not I would have thought would be happening. I reiterate, these are still the Chicago Blackhawks. Game 4 hasn’t been played yet, a 5 game series is boring anyways. The lose tonight can be blamed on the coach, in which case that means the team can still come back/move forward. I’m pretty sure the cup wasn’t given out tonight. It is now harder than it maybe should have been, but again this is far from over.

    • DJ

I mean, last year it was 1-3 before they collectively woke up. And it took a blown offside call and a blown slash to give LA the win in Game 7.

That said, why make it harder on yourself than it has to be?

      • Sopel the catfish

As some idiot overachiever once (probably) said, if you don’t challenge yourself it isn’t worth it. I play video games to win every series 4-0, I don’t expect the team to actually do it.

    • seabsrat

      *scurries away from ledge*

      • Sopel the catfish

There will always be space at the ledge, I never reserve my spot. As I have stated before, I will not panic until the Hawks are losing in an elimination game. No team wins every game (except my NHL ’95 teams because I kill in NHL faceoff with Bernie Nichols on the Hawks)

        • To Saad be the glory

A calm, cool voice of reason. I am now going to go about my life and look forward to game 4! I’m usually almost as positive as you,but shit jumpin off at home tonight kinda took me by surprise.(nhl 94 on snes was the best eh lol.)

          • Sopel the catfish

whatever bro, NHL faceoff on playstation is where it’s at, wraparound with 92 left to right cannot be stopped. All your cups are belong to us. πŸ™‚

    • Pierre Wolfthing

Of course, right on all accounts. I just pray to God he replaces the TT and Vermy lines. Go Hawks!

    • Dan Treadwell

Adjust? Q ‘adjusted” the team right out of a win. Hope he’s got his resume updated.

    • Sopel the catfish

so many spelling errors. I misspelled spelling at first when trying to correct my initial post. Hah. Fuck. W/e.

    • ZigZags82

Thought the two teams would split in Chicago anyway, but didn’t brainfart Q would be the reason. Oh well. You are correct though. These are the Kane-Toews Blackhawks. Never wise to count them out.

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Ok here comes the presser

    • DJ

I have AT&T; this no NHL Network. Highlights, please?

      • Aaeismacgychel

Will do. It’s going to be on NBCSN. Also have 720 going

        • DJ

I have the radio. And I’m not liking what I’m hearing.

          • Pierre Wolfthing

            What are you hearing???

          • DJ

Both were healthy scratches. Q wanted “fresh legs” in the lineup. They were playing all right until we went behind.

            Translation: he outsmarted himself.

          • Pierre Wolfthing

            ~___~/

  • HawkIPA

    FRESH LEGS!?!!!!?

    • DJ

That’s not a good reason. Not at all.

  • TitanTransistor

The Anaheim Ducks have a significant coaching advantage in this series.

    • ZigZags82

Well not significant considering Boudreau is the coach, but yes they still have the advantage.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Nevermind. Entirely healthy scratches. What. The. Fuck.

    • Pierre Wolfthing

      Fuck… Not a good sign.

    • seabsrat

Please don’t tell me he said that.

      • Aaeismacgychel

Yeah. Yeah he did. Wanted to get Versteeg back in the lineup. Wanted to rest Vermette for fresh legs. No joke.

        • Pierre Wolfthing

Have always given Q the benefit of the doubt. He’s gone to far. Fuck him. My wife couldn’t even watch the game tonight when she heard the lineup change.

        • TitanTransistor

You know, after he said that he wasn’t worried about the D minutes because they had 10 days off prior.

      • DJ

How old is TT? Under 24, right? Fresh legs?

All right. That didn’t work out. If he sticks with this wretched lineup, he needs to be beaten with sticks.

  • Sopel the catfish

Worst part of tonight, a fruit fly flew into my 5th monkey just a few moments ago. I gracefully got him to stick to my finger before flicking it into oblivion. As far as I know the Campbell trophy is still waiting for it’s victor to claim it.

  • Aaeismacgychel

I’m at a complete loss. No idea what Q was thinking. No idea.

  • Sopel the catfish

FUCK BAD NEWS GUYS, WE ALL KNOW NBC GAVE THE CUP TO THE DUCKS A FEW DAYS AGO, NOW IT’S OFFICIAL AFTER 3 GAMES THE BLACKHAWKS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED FROM TEH PLAYOFFS AFTER 3 GAMES IN THE 3RD ROUND

    • Brandon Murray

I’VE GOT TO UPVOTE THAT SHIT. OH AND WHY ARE WE YELLING?

  • Sopel the catfish

MY SARCASM KNOWS NO BOUNDS AND THE MONKEY ONLY ENCOURAGES ME TO POST MORE. 5TH WAS OPENED TO TRY TO RALLY, NOW THE 6TH WILL HAVE IT’S FUN WITH THE COMMENTS. TRY TO STOP THE SPAM, YOU CANNOT.

    • rhodes

God, Sopel, I hope you don’t find the All ALL CAPS key.

      • Sopel the catfish

The caps key is my bitch and does what I tell it to do.

    • Pierre Wolfthing

You got nothing to lose, go for it.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Well, I have to give the Chicago press some credit. They really did ask him about the line changes. They tried to give Q outs- he didn’t take a single one. Hard to believe. Just really hard to believe.

  • seabsrat

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_aQupiaCSA

Right now this quote reminds me of Q’s coaching.

    • Sopel the catfish

I love me some Aaron Eckhart, Thank you For Smoking, Battle LA, that one batman movie

      • seabsrat

Hahaha did you actually like Battle LA? I remember I saw that in theaters and kept laughing at “emotional” parts I wasn’t supposed to be laughing at.

        • Sopel the catfish

“Intense” I saw it with my best friend, all we could say was “that movie was intense” the emotional parts weren’t that great, but the action never stopped and overall IMO was an entertaining movie.

          • seabsrat

If it’s Sopel endorsed, I’ll give it another shot. I really don’t remember much from it.

          • Sopel the catfish

My favorite criteria for judging movies evolved after seeing Jeepers Creepers on satellite at my friend’s house. After it ended, the thought hit me “If I had paid money to see this movie I would be upset right now” But I didn’t pay, and it was mediocre. More or less that is the mindset I carry into movies.

  • DJ

Tazer – “we were good in staying out of the box, but couldn’t score. Have to do better on the power play.”

  • Sopel the catfish

OH SHIT GUYS, I DID FIND THE CAPS KEY AND IF I’M NOT CAREFUL I MIGHT UPBOAT SOME OF MY OWN POST.

    • rhodes

If you find the secret “bold” and “underline” keys, you will break the blog.

      • Sopel the catfish

YOU MUST TELL ME HOW! NAO!

  • Brandon Murray

I remember my first beer. I also remember winning a Wings series we were down 3-1 (with a huge win in Detroit), winning a game 5 in St. Louis, & forcing a 7th game against LA when down 3-1. I don’t like the result tonight but outside of Andersen playing the best hockey of his life, the Ducks have not dominated or done anything to scare me. We’ve played them 6 times now and each won 3 including reg season & playoffs. This. Ain’t. Over. Oh it’s far from over. Get it back to 2-2 and Let’s Go Hawks!

    • DJ

Recall that the third and fourth lines we used in Game 1 and 2 were more than a handful against Anaheim. The only reason they weren’t tonight was because we voluntarily disarmed ourselves. Rebuild them, and force Boudreau to figure it out.

The power play needs to be fixed. Aside from Game 2, it’s been a problem for a while.

      • Pierre Wolfthing

Exactly – that’s what was so perplexing and infuriating about the line-up change. So what does Q do now? Go back to TT and Vermy? I doubt it but certainly hope so.

        • DJ

Well I would. The fresh legs excuse is gone. He can no longer say “I have to get Versteeg and Nordstrom in the lineup.” Now he needs to get the best 12 forwards out there. To me, TT is a no-brainer. And I think you need Vermette for face offs and defense. If you really want Versteeg out there, sit Bickell and move Sharp to the fist line.

          • Pierre Wolfthing

Taking TT out was mind boggling. Vermy was also playing solid, checking creating plays and decent at the dot.

          • Sopel the catfish

I can understand if Vermy was about to have a kid, what I don’t and won’t and can’t understand is taking TT out, puck was finding him and he was making sweet plays, Q talks about “playing the right way” but fucked TT tonight.

    • Sopel the catfish

HEY! I’M THE IRRATIONAL DRUNK RIGHT NOW, YOU TAKE YOUR LOGIC AND REASONING AND GTFO! (not really thank you for honest and reasonable approach)

      • Brandon Murray

GTFO should be used in everything. I try to sneak it into memos at work subtly. It’s so underrated.

  • DJ

Kane “our pP entries aren’t very good…we need to take advantage of PO, especially early in the game.”

  • Brandon Murray

The best part about history is we have yet to see the traditional “Ducks piss down their legs and blow it moment.” I’ll assure you it is coming.

    • ZigZags82

You are correct sir. Just wait till we put them on their heels. The ensuing spectacle featuring Perry and Co. should be fun!

  • Sopel the catfish

I will continue the spam, we all want to blame Q and the lineup for tonight’s loss, right? That means the Hawks still have what it takes to win, they are not outmatched or* outgunned, some guy made some stupid choices, the world isn’t over, and if you look at the east I’m still happier with who Chicago has played.

    • Pierre Wolfthing

Well, I hope some guy makes some better personal choices in game 4.

  • DJ

Keith 28 min, Seabrook 28, Oduya and Hammer 19 apiece.

How much ice time did Perry, Getzlaf, and Kesler have?

    • Brandon Murray

Not sure. The only thing I’m sure of with those 3 is that during the 1st intermission Perry sucked off Getzlaf while Getzlaf ate out Keslers ass. Then I’ll assume they switch roles for following intermissions

      • ZigZags82

        What a 3 way!

  • Sopel the catfish
  • DJ

Jammer on CSN points out how Nordstrom fucked up on the penalty kill by not filling the shooting lane. PK 101. That should put his ass in the press box Saturday night.

    • Pierre Wolfthing

      God I hope so.

      • DJ

Mind you, it’s one thing for Q to optimize things by putting in TT and Vermette. Vermette has to do well at the dot.

The power play drive me nuts. You get rid of the nitwit assistant who had no clue. You still have terrific components such as Toews, Kane, Saad, Hossa, Sharp, Keith, and Seabrook. And they still look utterly clueless.

        • Pierre Wolfthing

Agreed. The PP issues are infuriating with the talent on the team. Have to lay it on the coaching.

          • DJ

Maybe. Dineeen doesn’t strike me as a moron. Start with better zone entries. Simplify. Get someone in front of the net. Don’t try to walk the puck into the net.

  • Bob Lanz

Nothing is fucked here… Well except for the genius out thinking himself again. And by the way how come when we are hurting for offense 19 88 isn’t reunited. You won two fucking cups putting them back together when it counted. Did you forget or do you believe your the fucking reason this team has won two cups? Next year is going to be a real freaking treat watching Q cut every fucking prospect in camp in favor of some over the hill veteran on the cheap that Stan can sign.

  • Hockey Newbie

We had like 5 guys who played less than 10 minutes. Has anyone asked why Kruger played so sparingly in the 3rd? Did I miss an injury or did Q just want to substitute fresh legs for him too?

    • Bob Lanz

I gotta think he was hurt cause Q even trusts him and Freddy is solid, fucking genius wouldn’t sit him unless he was hurting

      • Hockey Newbie

The broadcast team seemed to insinuate that was just wondering if anything was asked at presser

    • Pierre Wolfthing

Yeah, I noticed that too. Seems like I rarely saw him out there.

      • DJ

CSN crew says that if Kruger can’t take face offs, Vermette will get back in for sure; TT should get back in no matter what. Konroyd suggests breaking up the top line. Say Versteeg will improve as he gets up to speed. No comment on Nordstrom.

So…either the Game 1-2 lineup or TT and Vermette in, with Kruger and Nordstrom out. I’d prefer the former, as it implies that Kruger is not injured. But if he is, you go with the latter. Move Sharp up to the top line.

    • Pierre Wolfthing

Maybe just me but everything/line seemed out of sorts tonight. Pull a couple solid bricks out of the foundation of the tower and everything shifts.

  • DJ

Naveau from NBC.com ragging on Q’s lineup choices. Points out the “fresh legs” story was BS. Third line disjointed, fourth line didn’t play much at all. Says the Hawks threw away a chance to step on the Ducks’ neck with a win here. Says Q outsmarted himself.

Okay. Let’s say they revert to the Game 1-2 lineup and win Game 4. Eminently possible. Back to Anaheim at 2-2, and Boudreau now has to figure out how to address a productive four-line offense, and fast. If the Hawks come back home up 3-2…well, I find it really hard to believe that Q would disarm us twice, after seeing how badly it worked tonight.

    • Pierre Wolfthing

I’m praying to whatever hockey gods that exist that you are right…

      • DJ

Naveau continues by saying that Q is smart enough to know he fucked up (paraphrase, this is not satellite radio) even if he never says so. Says in a sense, it’s a must win for both teams Saturday. For the Hawks, it’s obvious; go 3-1 down and they’re in huge trouble. For Anaheim…they’re playing with house money now, they have gone ice back. But they know that Chicago can (and has) won in Anaheim.

        • Pierre Wolfthing

Your slowly talking me off the ledge. My concern isn’t that the Hawks (the players) can’t come back, seen it before – they’re warriors. It’s more with the fact that their General fucked up and (like you stated) will he realize his fuck up and correct it. Took a huge gamble there and lost. Thats what bothers me, I don’t see one bit of rationale in his decision tonight.

          • DJ

Well, they talked about it on CSN. Getting Versteeg and Nordstrom on the ice speaks to roster management, over not just this series, but the next one if we get there. There’s something to be said to having fourteen guys ready to play and contribute. To do that, the argument goes, you have to play fourteen guys. Versteeg, he trusts. Nordstrom, he thinks, will bring speed and physical presence. You could see Versteeg knocking the rust off; he wasn’t utterly worthless out there, but he didn’t do anything hugely positive. Nordstrom…on the ice for both goals, fucks up on the first one by not getting into the shooting lane. And it forces Shaw to center a line. And for some reason, Kruger doesn’t take any face offs. So the bottom two lines go from a potential series-winning advantage to utterly worthless.

Saturday night, the fresh legs rationale is gone. Everyone has played, everyone is rested and ready. If Kruger is fully healthy, you have all your options. Plus, you dictate the matchups. He has seen what works, and what doesn’t. The lineup that dresses Saturday should be the optimal lineup to win the series. It has to be. Another mistake, and we’re toast.
