• McGiggidy

Here’s hoping the ice is better than Wednesday night. I’d rather not see everyone washing out like they are all wearing rusted-out rental skates.

  • Sopel the catfish

When I think playoff hockey, I think Scott Hamilton leading a disorganized karaoke group. #smashedville

  • Icdws

Alfred E. Newman on Ottawa goalie Hammond’s helmet is awesome.

  • Icdws

Oh boy Rozival starting. Hold on yourselves

  • Sopel the catfish

Hossa chases down the rookie. Them legs may be old but no one out backchecks the HOSS.

  • Sopel the catfish

I’m confused, how is that a penalty?

    • Icdws

Going to b a lot of that tonight

  • Sopel the catfish

Well that was some dumb shit right there

    • Sopel the catfish

I guess it’s only two more of them until we have them right where we want them…

    • JJNDadTo4

Completely idiotic play by 23 that costs the Hawks a goal.

AND… he’s right back on the ice!!!! Unreal…

  • DJ

Cheap penalty. Crow a little too soon to go down. Equals shit start.

    Plenty of time to rebound.

    • Icdws

Crawford flinched. Bad sign for a goalie

  • DJ

Gee, I guess Nashville can cross-check with impunity.

  • Peanut Butter

Of course Rozi’s clearing attempt hit a leg…isn’t that what he’s suppose to do…make them all as slow as he is so he can keep up?

    • Sopel the catfish

He’s so patient though, he doesn’t let his terrible play rattle him.

  • Sopel the catfish

So Weber can just dislodge the net, makes sense.

    • Sopel the catfish

And they can run into Crow and drag their stick across his head. It’ll be nice when this dogshit officiating evens itself out like Wednesday.

  • Sopel the catfish

MTL OT game winner 4 minutes in

  • Icdws

Get through the last quarter please.

  • Sopel the catfish

Fuck you depth perception, saw that puck behind Pekka and though it was in. LIKE THAT ONE!!!!!

    • Icdws

It’s the monkey messing u up cat. Sharpie can heat up with me

  • seabsrat

    Holy shit, that was dirty.

  • McGiggidy

    dirty deeds done dirt cheap

  • Sopel the catfish

WTF Timmo, you are supposed to slide left and let that guy just rush Crow.

    • Icdws

They call that a Rosie and we got whole lotta ov it

      • Sopel the catfish

If he ever wants to get those cush Rosie minutes Kimmo will pick up a few habits.

  • seabsrat

Whoa, Seabrook spent most of that shift on his stomach.

    • Sopel the catfish

Seabs on stomach > Rosie in all situations

  • Sopel the catfish

    Holy shit, Crow the magician

  • D_Smith

    Lodged in the paraphenalia

  • Sopel the catfish

More dumb shit, whatever it’s only one goal.

  • Sopel the catfish

Shaw what are you doing, saw him rush over right at the end of the period.

  • DJ

    Lazy. Fucking lazy.

  • Brandon Murray

Fucking 3 seconds before we get out tied & that shit happens. I blame Roszival but then again I always do. Time to hammer down in period 2.

    • Sopel the catfish

Rosie has become my new whipping boy with no Bollig. By far the worst player on the team and a detriment. There will always be a “worst player” that I don’t like, but the worst player on the team shouldn’t suck so hard and be so far off from everyone else. I will take Rundblad anyday er’ry day.

      • WookRN

Rundblad may get better. Young, etc…..And as you say, and absolutely better alternative.

        • JJNDadTo4

He’ll never see the ice with Q behind the bench. Only thing that will save this team is Rozy leaving at year’s end.

          • Icdws

Q trying to be first coach to win 2 cups while having the worst player in the league on its roster

      • Icdws

Q is absolutely defiant about the guy too. What is he trying to prove? Get a guy who attempt to play nhl level hockey. This is absurd. NSH just file in with puck on his side.

      • To Saad be the glory

I think even the KHL would say nyet to Rosie.

        • Sopel the catfish

He would be far more efficient there, imagine the amount of ice he could leave open for the other team.

          • JJNDadTo4

I suspect he’d be shot to death by the owner of the team.

  • Icdws

Crow looks shaky. Some nice saves but too much looking for the puck. He has to keep hyper vigilant when Rozival is out there

  • seabsrat

In the offensive zone, I thought the Hawks looked good first period, but damn were they bad in the neutral ice and passing out of their own zone. So many stuffed passes and turnovers.

  • Sopel the catfish

Fuck you Pekka, wait until after the whistle then throw a punch

  • Sopel the catfish

Rosie takin one for the team, thank you.

    • Icdws

      Rosival finally contributes

      • Peanut Butter

        Finally using his head

  • PugzHawk

Is Rozie hurt? Please say he’s hurt?!

    • To Saad be the glory

As much as we can’t stand him, that really ain’t too cool.

      • PugzHawk

Yeah yeah… I don’t want him maimed, just dinged enough that he can’t play

  • McGiggidy

Get Sharp the puck any chance you can. He’s getting streaky

    • Icdws

      Nordstrom not playing in 2d

  • WookRN

And I thought OUR ice surface was bad….damn.

  • seabsrat

I was under the impression that the ice was supposed to be zambonied after each period. I feel like they just run a giant cheese grater over the ice in every TV timeout at the Bridgestone Arena.

    • McGiggidy

They are having trouble with humidity. Can’t blame them with a stadium full of mouth breathers

  • Sopel the catfish

JOSI CLOSED HIS HAND(S)* ON IT

    • Peanut Butter

      I thought the same thing!

    • WookRN

      Dude!

    • seabsrat

I shouted this at my TV.

    • Icdws

Even the wife saw that one.

    • To Saad be the glory

Guess I wasn’t imagining things then.

  • Icdws

Go back to double shifting 10

  • To Saad be the glory

The Ribiero line lol,I think they’d be better with Alfonso centering that line.

  • McGiggidy

    KAAANNNNEEERRR

  • To Saad be the glory

Fuckin A right he owes us!

  • Sopel the catfish

    Delay of game on Lavi.

    • To Saad be the glory

Isn’t Lavi’s players impeding the Hawks trying to get off the ice like illegal or something?

      • Sopel the catfish

        Like…interference…

  • Icdws

Wtf is up with NSH? Sour grapes about fans anthems penalties goals. Shut up and just play. Geez

    • To Saad be the glory

Lavi gave them Flyer’s fans lessons.

      • Sopel the catfish

So he’s going to get fired this year too?

      • Icdws

You can take him out of Philly but ……

    • D_Smith

Does feel like they’re playing in STL a little.

  • Sopel the catfish

CROW IS A BETTER GOALIE THAN YOU

  • DJ

Weber done for the night. At least.

    • McGiggidy

I thought I was the only one who saw him labor to the bench halfway through the 2nd.

      • DJ

I’m listening on radio. They just announced it. His knee buckled on the contact with Saad.

  • DJ

    God damn it

  • Sopel the catfish

Dam, made the first save but the second

  • DJ

Hawks to the PP. Seth Jones takes a dumb slash.

  • Icdws

    Crow can’t find the puck.

  • DJ

0-3 on the PP. With Jones in the box and no Weber. Christ.

    • MrNikopopoulos

some sloppy passes at the blue line 🙁

  • Sopel the catfish

For the start of every Hawks PP I demand they put 6 skaters on the ice. Then let Toews win the 4 on 4 FO by Crow and get some goals.

  • Icdws

Preds down to 5 D men hawks down to 4.5. Rozival keemo count as .5

  • DJ

Yoiks. Jarrett Stoll got busted tonight in Vegas for possession of cocaine.

    • MrNikopopoulos

Guess the stakes are high for everyone during the playoffs ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • T.M.

guess he thinks the real blow is better than the blow he gets from erin andrews

  • Sopel the catfish

Not drunk enough, how wants to do some shots?

    • WookRN

      Please deliver to:
      University of Iowa Hospital.
      cardiac ICU.
      we’re watching (or trying to….)

  • seabsrat

It’s unfortunate that Crow’s performance tonight is only going to welcome more annoying goalie controversy talk in the media.

    • rhodes

Now that you mention it, he does kind of suck.

      /kidding!

      • seabsrat

He’s so bad that he couldn’t even make that face with a predator on his back.

    • Hockey Newbie

Definitely in the Trib, where Dumb and dumber tend to post a lot.

  • rhodes

Richards sat the last couple of reg season games due to some injury. I think. Anyone remember what that was?

    • rhodes

….because…. he doesn’t look like he’s playing with a lot of energy.

      • WookRN

I thought he was a healthy scratch

        • rhodes

You may be right–which is why I asked. But, I seem to remember he might have had something going on.

          • WookRN

I think (THINK!) It was just a rest since he’s been slow in the post season.

        • rhodes

In any case… he looks off.

        • Sopel the catfish

It was for injury, missed the last 3, they announced before those three he would miss the remainder of the reg season but that he would return for the playoffs.

  • rhodes

Wow. Fortunate call for the Hawks.

    • Sopel the catfish

      Correct call.

      • rhodes

        yeah, replay. I agree.

  • McGiggidy

love seeing bickell taking the body.

  • McGiggidy

    uhhhm make up call?

  • Sopel the catfish

These refs blow donkeys. For free.

    • Icdws

Phil Jackson theory. Cry like a baby about the calls and sure enuff next game calls go your way

  • rhodes

    Pretty weak call, there.

  • rhodes

    Hossa shorty

  • McGiggidy

Teuvo and Kane on the same line? i’ll allow it

    • rhodes

Kane, TT, and Versteeg. That’s an illegal amount of dazzle.

      • McGiggidy

let them marinade for a bit and they will rip a whole in the fabric of time

  • Sopel the catfish

    Good one Rosie

    • Sopel the catfish

I like how the perd made sure to shove Rosie after it was a goal

  • rhodes

Not the Hawks night, I’m thinking.

  • Sopel the catfish

If Duncan actually has another defender on the ice with him that is no goal

    • spotlight312

That’s on Crow. He should’ve covered it instead of playing it .

      • Sopel the catfish

Perhaps, but Rosie got beat (again) by his man to the puck after Keith made at least 2 good plays against it. Crow should not have had to make a choice about covering it.

        • spotlight312

U can defend Crow all you want. Reality says differently.

          • Hockey Newbie

Yeah, with the team so solid in front of him, how does he not have a shutout? Anyone could tend behind the 2010 hawks, or the 2013 version. this version is better because they are more seasoned, right? We are in the playoffs for one reason and that is Crow, but you can believe whatever makes you feel better or helps you sleep at night.

        • JJNDadTo4

The entire team has been just miserable all night… but Crow’s play is, to say the least, alarming!!!

    • McGiggidy

I can’t imagine what it would be like if the hawks were playing a team that was more physical. Rosie is done as soon as he pivots to recover. he lacks absolutely all mobility. He is a greater detriment than Handzus ever was.

  • Icdws

What more does that guy need to do to be removed from the ice?

  • Sopel the catfish

Now they’re fucked, 3 goal lead

    • rhodes

Your feed is ahead of mine. I read your comment, looked up at the TV, and saw the goal.

      • rhodes

        …Are you an alien?

        • Sopel the catfish

          Sometimes I wish I was

        • WookRN

I’m behind you guys. Watching it online behind the hospital network.

          • rhodes

Is the game still tied on the feed you’re watching? If so, turn it off and go to bed.

  • D_Smith

He hasn’t had a ton of help, but tough to keep making excuses for Crow on 9 goals in under 4 periods.

  • Sopel the catfish

I wasn’t even looking at the TV. whatever

  • spotlight312

Crow didn’t even try to stop that one.

    • Icdws

      He looked small and lost.

      • spotlight312

If only we had a bigger goalkeeper…oh wait..

        • WookRN

Yeah. Because that’s the right answer.

          • spotlight312

Frankly, even Raanta would have had a better performance than this. This is downright pathetic.

          • WookRN

Yeah. Crow has ABSOLUTELY made mistakes. But his D left him out to dry too….

          • spotlight312

When you’re three goals down, you need 5 guys on offense and the goalie needs to step up.

      • D_Smith

I don’t blame Q for starting Crow tonight, he earned it. But moving forward, I hope he goes with the hot hand because Crow is ice cold and easily beatable high right now.

  • MrNikopopoulos

    This has become…unpleasant.

  • seabsrat

    Well.. That escalated quickly.

  • rhodes

Hey. Seven game series. So, there’s that…

    • WookRN

      Yeah. We stole one…

  • Sopel the catfish

What was the chant after the “Crawford you suck”? Couldn’t make it out

  • rhodes

Eddie O just jumped off the Crawford bandwagon.

    • Sopel the catfish

At least he just called for Rundblad.

  • rhodes

Hey, blue line turnover by Steeger. Just had to get that in before the period ended, I guess.

    • WookRN

Might as well get the sloppy play out tonigt and be done with it.

  • rhodes

What the fuck is Versteeg doing?

    • Sopel the catfish

Bringing all the elements we miss with Bollig gone and Carcillo sitting

  • jordyhawk

4 goal lead and they have their top PP unit out there.

    • Sopel the catfish

How else are the going to every get good playoff stats?

  • rhodes

The Hawks should be happy they took a game and move on to Chicago. Not ever game is going to be a gem.

    • WookRN

We got one. All we have to do is take the home games…..

  • MrNikopopoulos

What are these bizarre chants? I feel like I’m watching a Japanese game show

    • DJ

Now, now.,,you must allow these rustics their hockey-fan growing pains.

  • DJ

The only consolation is we still have home ice. But keep playing like this and we won’t have it by Sunday evening.

Rundblad for Rozival. Darling for Crawford.

    • WookRN

I disagree. Crow had a bad game, but Darling won’t be able to go the distance. No point in having Crow getting a case of “goalie head case”.
Rundblad. Crow. Get Vermette in there for special teams. He’ll, as much as we’re over using the top 4 D men, just dress 5 and 13 forwards.

      • spotlight312

Crow had 2 bad games. You have a case of “goalie head”

        • WookRN

          Ehm whatever.

        • seabsrat

Crow has looked a bit shaky to me in each game (and he really got lit up tonight), but I still think if you sit him, it’s going to be trouble in the long run for this team.

          • spotlight312

Let’s not talk long run. Just focus on doing what we need to do to win this 1st round. If you want your Crawford back, let him wait for Round 2. Frankly I’ve lost faith in him since he injured himself at that concert.

          • seabsrat

Did you see the last 20 games of the season?

          • spotlight312

Did you see the last 5 games of the season?

          • WookRN

            Nice sample size.
Did you see the last four years?

          • seabsrat

You’re a feisty one, aren’t you? The only reason the Q even has the CHANCE to play Darling over Corey Crawford right now is because of Corey Crawford’s play in the home stretch of this season, where he stood on his head time and time again to let the Hawks just barely squeak by into the playoffs.

I see where your worry is coming from, but I truly think Crawford is the #1 goalie and giving Darling the start could really fuck things up for both of them.

          • spotlight312

We had the best stretch when Crow was out because of his concert accident. Who was in goal?

          • Sopel the catfish

Who kept the Hawks in it while Kane was out and they couldn’t buy a goal?

Please go troll somewhere else, I appreciate you effort though (I think?).

          • DJ

The concert is what cost you your faith? That’s absurd.

          • spotlight312

For the millions he’s getting, he should not have put himself in a position to get hurt. He chose to risk it and that’s a selfish act.

          • WookRN

Yeah. He should be caged and protected.
            Genius.

          • DJ

So what’s he supposed to do? Wrap himself in bubble wrap when he’s not playing? Accidents happen.

          • spotlight312

Sharp is a die hard Pearl Jam fan but you don’t see him at their concerts during the regular season even when they were at Wrigley. It’s about sacrifice and being smart about your decisions. He can do what the F he wants during the off season or after he retires.

          • seabsrat

Using Sharp as your example of an off ice professional may not be the best choice haha.

          • spotlight312

You’re an ass and not a real Hawks fan if you give an ounce of creedence to all that bs locker room rumours.

          • seabsrat

I have real life examples of Sharp’s misgivings off the ice. I wasn’t even really trying to ruffle your feathers there, I just thought of all the players to support your professionalism argument, Sharp was an interesting choice.

          • WookRN

            Calling people an ass.
            Really boosts your credibility.

          • DJ

Would you feel better if Crawford had slipped in his shower? Or cut his hand with a kitchen knife? Or does your irrationality require these athletes to live their entire life by your standards?

          • spotlight312

Taking a shower and raging in a mosh pit is hardly the same thing.

          • rhodes

You’ve never seen me in the shower.

            /rimshot

          • WookRN

            This forum is closed.
            Rhodes won.

          • DJ

But accidents happen in the home. And at concerts. I was leaving one once — clean and sober — and stumbled walking down the UC stairs. It can happen.

          • spotlight312

Look kid, it’s all about taking risks and making smart choices. Yes, crap happens but you do what you can to minimize the risk. Take that 4th goal. He could have covered it but he took a risky decision to play it. You make stupid risky decisions in life, that same thinking will be reflected in your game. I bet the Nashville video coach sees that and tells the players to watch for his penchant for taking chances.

          • WookRN

            Listen Junior.
you should watch Red Army. I think you’d REALLY like the Russian system of how they take care of their athletes. They didn’t get hurt at concerts either.

          • Guest

Umm, that PJ concert at Wrigley was in July. Playoffs were over in June…

          • Sopel the catfish
          • DJ

That’s it then. All of the Hawks have to be fed baby food with plastic spoons from Day One of training camp until the final game. Failing to do so proves they’re irresponsible and selfish.

          • Sopel the catfish

They’re not allowed to hold the spoons themselves though, might choke.

          • DJ

Darn. What WAS I thinking???? I’m obviously selfish and irresponsible.

          • WookRN

We should probably use intravenous nutrition. You can choke on food, not just the spoon.

          • rhodes

            That is damn funny.

          • Hockey Newbie

This argument is beyond absurd. Troll in training??

          • DJ

He seems to be a prodigy.

          • WookRN

            Lost faith since the concert!
            Wait for round two!?
You’re HILARIOUS. When this team was limping in February and March, his net minding kept us in contention….

      • DJ

Yeah…the latter may very well be frustration talking. I suspect he will get the start, but with a far shorter leash.

Once again, his teammates didn’t help him out.

        • WookRN

I agree. He very well deserves a shorter leash.
But I mean it about the D. Granted, we may not have to shelter the bottom two as much when we get last change.

          • Sopel the catfish

Rosie needs to be sent to a shelter, maybe one for battered women considering how bad he keeps getting beaten.

          • DJ

I agree about the D. It helps that Keith is physically gifted enough to play 30 minutes. But even with Weber out, you need to roll at least five useful defensemen.

          • WookRN

Yeah. But I dont WANT to have Dunc do 30 a night. Agreed. Something there needs to change. Still hoping Timmonen gets better, Rundblad gets a look, something…

        • spotlight312

Right coz’ Jammer only took one puck to his nuts tonight instead of his usual 20 blocked shots so the D hung your beloved #50 out to dry yes?

          • DJ

Who mentioned Jammer? Not I. Your rhetorical skills are atrophying too quickly.

          • Hockey Newbie

Our beloved #50? Aint he the starting goalie of the team you follow too? Shouldn’t you want him to do well, oOr would you rather lose with him to prove your delusional beliefs? Did you watch the defense in front of him tonight? Who played good in front of him? Our offense has looked better since Kane is back, but our PK is making a bad team look good. Heaven forbid we play a team with a good PP. But hey I noticed we outhit them tonight. That has to count for something, eh??

          • WookRN

No…. I’m pretty sure spotlight is a Preds fan trolling.

          • Hockey Newbie

Well then he cannot come to this board, until we verify the money he used to buy the keyboard he is banging his fists on to post on his board was purchased in Illinois.

  • Oops

whelp I don’t like the smell of giardinera farts

  • rhodes

So, the Hawks played two pretty mediocre away games and split 1-1. If they can figure out a way to get their game in order (big “if” perhaps), that is not a bad sign. Best I can do….

  • HawksRule

    • WookRN

      Are both back up goalies.
      the end.

  • DJ

Watching the scroll on Fox Sports 2 — Aussie Rules Football. Stoll busted for alleged cocaine and ecstasy possession.

  • wreckinball

Every tough shot went in tonight can’t happen love you Crow but it’s time for Darling

  • rhodes

I wouldn’t bail on Crawford so fast. The guy has been the man for the better part of the season. Allow him a bad stretch. It happens. Unfortunate that it’s in the playoffs, but I’m guessing he snaps out of it.

    /easy for me to say

    • DJ

In fairness to Crow, there are a few guys who need to snap out of it.

      • rhodes

Without a doubt. I still think Richards is playing hurt. He looked really lethargic tonight. All the more reason to wonder why Vermette is in the press box.

    • WookRN

He got us through the end of the season, he’ll get us through this….I hope….seriously. Start Crow, you pull him, you pull him, whatever. But he gets the start….

  • wreckinball

Crow looks shaky do you give him another game ? I would say no

    • rhodes

Tough call, but I would go back to him.

      • WookRN

I think you have to. Maybe he gets pulled that game, but you at least start him.

  • Sopel the catfish

WTF is this mess at the end of the CGY game, no way to explain, one ref letting two canucks contine to beat on CGY player, after Hamhuis was the 3rd man in. Total shit show equivalent to the Hawks game tonight. THere had better be some suspensions.

    • DJ

Some odd refereeing in the first round. Don’t these guys want to move on?

  • wreckinball

My problem is a Crow looks a little passive sitting back and not challenging which is his style. Yea a couple of those were tough but great goalies make some great stops and he made none . I think you have to go with Darling

    • Sopel the catfish

No great stops? Please don’t watch any more hockey if you think he didn’t make any great stops tonight.

      • wreckinball

Not really but we can disagree

      • Hockey Newbie

I cannot think of one bad goal, and for that matter I am not sure who played good in front of him either. We gave in late goals in periods, we refused to clear pucks, had a hard time passing out of our zone, Dunc had his pocket picked right in front of Crow. Oh and that wonderfule 4 minute PP where we get one shot on Rinne. Give me a break ….!!

    • rhodes

I understand where you’re coming from, but what do you do if you go that route and Darling shits the bed?

      • WookRN

When. When darling shit’s the bed. Good kid. Good backup. But he wouldn’t be able to survive this for a game or three either. He had a GREAT game Wednesday. But Crow gets the start.

        • rhodes

          Yeah, I’m with you.

    • Hockey Newbie

How was the waved off goal, not a penalty? I do not understand what constitutes goalie interference as it looked like the Pred player pushe Crow down with his stick..

      • wreckinball

Agree Nashville actually was interfering all night and getting away with it love all the wails about Kane’s goal Re too many men in the ice Sharpie couldn’t get off because he was interfered with

      • DJ

If it’s incidental contact — as I assume the ref saw it to be (I was listening to the radio) — a goal would get disallowed, but no penalty gets called.

        • Sopel the catfish

I consider*ed incidental right up until his (nashville) arms and stick are extended pushing Crow over from behind. Correct no goal call, but should have been a PP anyways.

          • Hockey Newbie

If it makes ou feel any better, we would have gotten one shot on net and that would have led to Nashville rush down the ice anyhow

  • TitanTransistor

Corey Crawford should be ashamed of himself. 2012 all over again. I figured he would rebound after last game, but he only got worse. Darling, please.

It’s not entirely on Crow though. Please Q, kerp playing Rozsival and Versteeg. Tell us all about their ‘patience’ and ‘experience’ and all that fucking nonsense you use to rationalize your bullshit double standards.

Keep on playing them and prove how smart you are, you delusional senile fuck.

    • wreckinball

At this point he’s never going to sit Rosival

      • TitanTransistor

Then the best the Blackhawks can hope for is a 1st round elimination and coaching change in the off-season. This nonsense has gone far enough.

        • DJ

Okay. Suppose Your dream comes true, we get bounced in Round One, and Stan has enough. Who does he get that would be better?

And do not say Babcock. Inertia is going to keep him in Detroit.

          • TitanTransistor

I’d be interested to see what Dave Tippet could do with this roster.

Combined with the shock of a coaching change on the mentality in the dressing room.

          • Sopel the catfish

            Play Vermette.

          • TitanTransistor

That would have been the rational, intelligent decision to start this series.

Rationality and intelligence have no place in the world of the moustache.

          • DJ

Well, haven’t his face off numbers been bad? It will be interesting to see if, now that we have last change, he’ll make a lineup adjustment to get Vermette on the ice.

If Weber is out, that’s an enormous disadvantage to Nashville.

          • Sopel the catfish

50% since coming to the Hawks.

          • DJ

Thanks for the exact figure. I think I’d take 50%. Hell, it’d be an improvement of late.

          • TitanTransistor

50% since coming to the Blackhawks, 56% for the year, I believe.

            10-19-81
            20-91-88
            29-80-65
            42/11-16-86

          • Sopel the catfish

Haven’t really noticed Nordie so far except for some shoving pre faceoff, I’d like to see 11 come in and reunite that bum slaying 4th line. It felt like they were cooking pretty good at the end.

          • DJ

I would like those lines, too. Come out blazing and don’t let up.

          • seabsrat

That’s a sweet looking set of lines.

          • DJ

Well at least that’s a legitimate name. I’m not quite as keen on Tippett; the only reason he did well with the Dogs that one year was because Mike Smith had a horseshoe up his ass and Raffi Torres almost murdered Marian Hossa. But I would also like to see him with a better organization behind him.

          • TitanTransistor

Yes, but before that run he took the Coyotes to the playoffs several years in a row when pretty much nobody figured them for a playoff team.

They never made it very far, but they never had the wealth of talent the Blackhawks have, either

          • Hockey Newbie

The media here in the desert think very highly of him, but then again they are not overly unbiased about their local teams either

          • DJ

Or much of the competition. We’re wrestling with Detroit and St Louis; they had…San Jose and Anaheim? Broadly comparable, but I’d say our dance card was tougher (we all point and laugh over SJ and Anaheim’s playoff pratfalls).

          • Sopel the catfish

            Hardened by fire.

          • TitanTransistor

They played the Red Wings two years in a row, if I recall.

          • DJ

In the playoffs, correct. I was thinking of their divisional opponents during the regular season.

          • TitanTransistor

Ah, fair. But if you’re going by regular season, then a division with San Jose and Anaheim is no easy task either, since they;re usually pretty good regular season teams. And Vancouver was also pretty strong in those days too.

          • DJ

I did say San Jose and amaheim were broadly comparable. But recall that Vancouver was kicking around a weak Northwest Division (with Calgary, Edmonton, Colorado, and Minnesota).

          • TitanTransistor

Yeah, sorry, you’re right. I was thinking about it as if they were in the current format (Pacific, Central, Metro, Atlantic).

          • DJ

            “amaheim?” Honest…I’m completely sober tonight!

          • Sopel the catfish

Vancouver was taking lunch money from nerds, then ran into the guy who grew up getting beat up by his older brother and was toughened up by it.

    • rhodes

I imaging Crawford is not feeling too good about that game, sure. But, he’s a much better goalie than his performance tonight. On the whole, he’s been pretty consistent this year. I would give him the chance to redeem himself.

      • spotlight312

Crawford and consistency in the same sentence? That’s rich.

        • rhodes

Well, he was shaky for a few weeks after coming back from the “stair injury,” but after that (and before that, too) my recollection is that he was solid.

          • WookRN

            The stats back you Rhodes.
You know, if you’re into that sort of thing.

          • Sopel the catfish

Also, history and the eye test, and some dude from Buffalo
“I think there were a lot of guys that deserved it,” Kane said on NBC just after the announcement. [on winning the Conn Smythe] “I think [Corey Crawford] might have gotten snubbed, to be honest with you.”

        • Steveholt

          Not really, it’s pretty accurate.

          • seabsrat

            STEVE HOLT!

    • rhodes

I’m imaging TT stumbling in the door from the bar, typing in that rant, and passing out on the couch.

      • TitanTransistor

        Nope. Calm and coherent.

        • rhodes

Calm and coherent has no place in here right now.

          • TitanTransistor

I’ll start drinking in earnest, then.

          • Sopel the catfish

Here’s an instructional video on how to do it

            *feverishly takes notes*

          • Sopel the catfish

I love all the knowledge humans get to share with each other thanks to the internet.

  • Aaeismacgychel

I don’t even know what to say tonight 🙁 All I know is we have a major issue with the clamoring for a goalie change. Because there’s a very old Playoff saying of If you have two goalies, you don’t have any. If you go to Darling and he sucks, congrats, you in all likelihood just lost the cup. Teams that switch goalies simply don’t win. It’s been proven time and time again. I wish Darling the best if he plays, but the way we played tonight, he sure as hell wouldn’t have gotten a win tonight either. Pitiful performance.

    • WookRN

      Absolutely agree.

The infuriating thing is that everybody with a functioning brain (which obviously excludes Q) knows this, we just also know the chances of it happening are lower than they should be. The frustration is not from not knowing what can be done, the frustration comes from the fact that the solution is obvious, yet the one person with the power to enact it is paralyzed by stubbornness, stupidity, or both.

  • Sopel the catfish

MTL OTT series is the only series of the first 4 that is not evened up 1-1. They are also the only home team of said 4 to win the first game. The three road teams that had won the first game lost the second.

There is still a lot of hockey left to played everywhere, Chicago included. One thing is for certain no matter how much you’re worried or trying to be a troll, the Hawks can play better. This is not the Hawks from the early 2000’s, this is a playoff tested cup winning team filled with skill, Crawford included.

It is not just blind fandom but honest logical thought that makes me confident in them in what they’ve done and what they can do. They can very well win the cup again this year, just as they may also lose in the first round. We have seen both manifestations of the team that will do that (last 2 games against the Rangers were played very well, whereas we all know how the last 2 games against the bluse went)

Sports are an exercise in hope when you’re a fan, and if I wanted to focus on all the negative aspects I could just think about my crazy ass neighbors talking shit about my mom and the local park district board, filling harassment reports against me, or any other number of things. That is not to say I ignore everything negative and that they shouldn’t be mentioned, but seriously Crow has done enough and so has the team (not necessarily this exact roster but the team overall) to be given the benefit of the doubt until the final whistle of an elimination game with them on the short end of the scoreboard.

    • rhodes

      Amen.

    • WookRN

      Well said.

    • DJ

      Hear, hear!

  • rhodes

I’ll leave you all with these thoughts…. Hawks have home ice advantage. They have not played their best game, by far. Preds are more beat up by the day.

    • WookRN

And no one expected us to sweep…..

  • TitanTransistor

    Of note:

Crawford’s 8 most recent playoff games
    -6 goals against
    -3 goals against*
    -5 goals against
    -3 goals against
    -4 goals against
    -5 goals against
    -4 goals against
    -6 goals against

*This was obviously in one period, not a full game.

    • Aaeismacgychel

      Of note:
Hawks’ 8 most recent playoff games had Crawford not been in goal for them
      -N/A goals against*
      -N/A goals against*
      -N/A goals against**
      -N/A goals against**
      -N/A goals against**
      -N/A goals against**
      -N/A goals against**
      -N/A goals against**
*This was obviously due to the Hawks not making the Playoffs without Crawford and not playing these games
**This was obviously due to the Hawks losing in Round 1 to the Wild and not playing these games
