Horse racing is going to have a hell of a time coming up with a storyline for casual viewers.

    • DJ

No, one will come along sooner or later. It’s perennial.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Let’s do this? Well once the horsies are finished… Are they finished yet? How bout now? Or now? Or now?

  • crystallakemike

Odds Tampa comes out flying again like game 1?

    • Aaeismacgychel

High Though I think our Hawks might come out flying as well. And hopefully flying even harder and faster

  • Sam

Naked Raygun. Riviera Theater. 1991. Sick.

  • Sopel the catfish

So I helped my friend move this morning in what was the second least painful move I’ve been a part of with literally everything already being packed and ready to move. Weather was perfect, I restocked the root beer (you don’t run out of whiskey you just run out of things it goes with), and then took the dog for a walk around the lake before taking a well deserved nap. The jolly green giant mug is filled with the special stuff and the Saad jersey is on. I see no reason why today cannot continue to be an amazing day.

    GO HAWKS!

    • Sweater man, sweater!

      • Sopel the catfish

I spend most of my time with the unwashed masses and their vernacular sneaks into mine at times.

    • The Gatest Gamer

You only don’t run out of whiskey if I’m not around.

      • Sopel the catfish

As an Eagle Scout I like to be prepared, there is always a backup bottle 🙂

        • Icdws

And your community project was? Creative cocktailing?

          • Sopel the catfish

Organized a whole bunch of restorative work and yard/fence work at a Save-A-Pet location, over 100 hours logged to help out them aminals

        • The Gatest Gamer

I turn backup bottles into main bottles by the virtue of having been born in USSR

          • Sopel the catfish

That’s exactly what they’re for, then when one is able to successfully and safely manipulate the automobile a new backup bottle is bought

          • The Gatest Gamer

I like you, where do you live?

          • Sopel the catfish

            ‘Merica. Lake county, IL specifically.

          • The Gatest Gamer

Hey I spent some time in College of Last Choice some years ago. Good ol’ Grayslake…

          • Back in the US, back in the US, back in the USSR!

  • Sopel the catfish

“Fans appreciate the effort” fuck yourself Pierre

  • Sopel the catfish

    Wow

  • Sopel the catfish

Kane throws the hit on Stralman after a good shift, keep up the pressure Hawks

  • Icdws

Hellava play by keith getting back

  • Aaeismacgychel

This start going about as expected- high octane

  • Sopel the catfish

Did they just sound the horn?

    • Icdws

      Yes

    • Aaeismacgychel

Yeah. I wonder what would’ve happened had Tampa scored right after that

  • Icdws

Did Pierre say something? I was mesmerized by the jiggling blue shir behind him.

  • Sopel the catfish

Should be 2 for cross checking to stamkos, Hossa trying to get up from the crease and gets checked right back down

    • Sopel the catfish

And Sharp gets a stick to the face on that hit

  • Icdws

    Crow is throwing it

  • Sopel the catfish

Showtime is feeling it and Saad seems to be playing well as well, looking for some magic to happen for the Nuclear Line

  • Sopel the catfish

Saad wrapped up in a bearhug and no hold called, come on refs I don’t want the ducks/Hawks refs

    • Icdws

      NHL wants a long series

  • Sopel the catfish

    weak shit

  • Aaeismacgychel

Wow, Hawks, that was a effin mess

  • The Gatest Gamer

    GG Cumiskey

  • Aaeismacgychel

Man… Gotta find a way to put that on in.

  • Sopel the catfish

Seriously, fucking refs need to get their shit together, i get that you’re allowed to clear your crease but when you throw punches while a ref is trying to pull you away that should be an easy 2 minutes

  • DJ

If we keep this effort up, we won’t just get that first goal back.

  • DJ

Apparently, Tampa Bay is incapable of committing a penalty. Or selective blindness on the refs’ part…

  • DJ

    Selective blindness it is, then…

    • Sopel the catfish

I hope the whistles they’ve swallowed were made in china out of lead

  • Aaeismacgychel

Bad trip. Ugh… Gotta kill this

  • Icdws

    Let’s go pk

  • Sopel the catfish

    Saad shortie here we come

  • The Gatest Gamer

So Ol’ Lady is spending the weekind in NYC with her girlfriends. I’m home on kid duty. So I threw coupla steaks on the grill, ordered a pizza for kids, tried drizly for booze delivery(was quick and not too expensive) Now I’m just sitting here enjoying this Piraat and steaks and watching this game with the expectation to lose(first two on the road in SCF? nawww it can’t be that easy).

So at this point things can only get better. Cheers!

    • Sopel the catfish

I don’t expect to lose, if it happens it won’t be the end of the world but plenty of hockey left for the boys in red to play. They were down after the first period in the first game too.

      • The Gatest Gamer

Hey, I’m not saying they can’t win, in fact they are very capable of doing just that. I’m just saying that I set my expectations low so they can only match or exceed them. No disappointment in Gater’s household tonight.

  • Icdws

Icing on the pp love it

  • Aaeismacgychel

Great effing first part of that kill

  • DJ

Eh. One crummy sequence where Cumiskey couldn’t clear (TVR get ready for Monday?). Whatever. One goal isn’t going to be enough for them.

    • TitanTransistor

Unlikely it’s the only goal they get. Blackhawks have to be better, particularly the Toews line.

  • Icdws

Since Paquette like to chirp in French, I’ve got this for him: déjà vu mon ami

  • Icdws

Between period question: why has TB had so many 3 day breaks in playoffs. It seems they don’t play on Fridays. Is the AA used for a giant bongo game every Friday or what.

    • DJ

Concerts? I know Garth Brooks cancelled his, but you could see a tour scheduling Tampa on a Friday and Miami or Atlanta on Saturday.

  • Sopel the catfish
  • I hear a chant all the way from Chicago…TVR, TVR, TVR!

  • DJ

Let’s see if they overcorrect, so to speak. Sitting back and playing rope-a-dope didn’t work Wednesday. I suspect they’ll keep with a positive approach. But they’d better clean up those turnovers and not give up odd-man rushes.

  • seabsrat

4th line’s gonna get one. 11 and 65 are wreaking havoc in the offensive zone. Too bad Cumiskey coughed that pick up right in the center of the ice.. Bad break, but I think the men in red are gonna put some good offense together going forward.

  • DJ

    Finish this kill

  • The_Cheeb

TVR should get a chance Monday…..
Cedric backed up his smack talk already…..
Crow looks great, once again, goal came from traffic…..
I’d like to enjoy a relaxing period with a lead, but don’t feel sick yet…..

  • TitanTransistor

Paquette vs Toews matchup a strong advantage for Paquette so far.

  • Sopel the catfish

Did Doc just say that Pierre has an off switch? Where is it and why hasn’t it been hit yet

    • The_Cheeb

I think he said cough switch?

  • DJ

    SCORE!!

    • Sopel the catfish

You’re a solid ten seconds ahead of my TV feed

      • DJ

        Radio.

        • Sopel the catfish

Must be the actual AM radio and not streaming

          • DJ

            Yes.

  • Aaeismacgychel

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL SHAW!!!!

  • DJ

    Shawsie!!

  • Sopel the catfish

THE MUTT, NOW BITE THE PUCK!

  • DJ

    Another defensive turnover?

  • Sopel the catfish

Nice move Versteeg, and the refs actually call the ning for something. Let’s do this

  • DJ

Power play! Richards draws the hook. Go to work, boys.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Wow, what a great play by Versteeg trying to get the puck to Richards

  • DJ

    DRAGON!!!

  • To Saad be the glory

    Teuvo!!

  • Aaeismacgychel

    TEUVO!!!!!!!!

  • Sopel the catfish

FUCKS YEA BABY, SHAW SCORED AND THE PP CONVERTED, I LIKE OUR CHANCES

  • DJ

    Enter the Dragon!

  • The Gatest Gamer

TT can score on PPs whoda thunk

  • Sopel the catfish

So is that a seeing eye double?

  • DJ

As Hawk would say “Don’t stop now, boys!”

  • TitanTransistor

Is this going to be like 2010 when the 3rd and 4th line did all the damage?

As long as it ends the same way, I’m fine with it.

    • Sopel the catfish

      Depth wins championships

      • DJ

Depth is what beat Anaheim. As this very site has pointed out, we have the depth advantage here. As long as their top two lines and power play don’t go nuclear…

  • Under the armpit!

  • DJ

    Crap

  • Sopel the catfish

    Weak shit, whatever

  • DJ

Hammer let Kucherov get past him. Get it back

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Damn, bad deflection

  • Icdws

    TT is turning into TNT
    More pp time please

  • To Saad be the glory

2 of their 3 goals so far this series have been shitty ass deflections, not much Crow can do.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Lol… Sucky sucky Crawford doing things only HOFers have done. Release that bum to the ECHL

    • Sopel the catfish

HE SURE AIN’T NO CHICAWWWGO NATIVE

  • TitanTransistor

Top 2 lines have been pretty shit so far tonight.

    • Sopel the catfish

As soon as you call them out 2nd line draws another penalty

      • TitanTransistor

Quite frankly, I’m not sure that’s good for us, or good for the Lightning at this point.

        • DJ

Our second PP unit has been dangerous.

        • WookRN

Well….since we scored on the first one….

  • DJ

    Back to the power play

  • Sopel the catfish

    PP again thank you

  • Aaeismacgychel

Kris Versteeg doing incredible out there. Great job by the Richards line

  • Sopel the catfish

    So close there for Saad

  • Sopel the catfish

THAT IS A FUCKING TRIP, THEY SAID THAT EVEN IF YOU GET THE PUCK FIRST THEY WILL CALL IT AS A TRIP FUCK YOU REFS

    • WookRN

That’s what I just said. They just CHANGED the rule to MAKE that a call….

  • DJ

    Damnit

  • DJ

    Johnson

  • DJ

Okay first line. That little shit Johnson has shown up. Now you’d better.

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Man… Not a good goal

  • TitanTransistor

    lol Crawford. Pathetic.

    • WookRN

      Youre right….Let’s bring Darling back….
      (?)

    • DJ

Now you’re not even trying to hide your pleasure.

  • seabsrat

    Damn that was soft..

    • WookRN

I think Seabs should have moved on it….is what it is….

  • Sopel the catfish

Track meet started, let’s do this.

  • HossasPierogi

After you win a Cup you can start calling Blackhawks pathetic

  • Icdws

Keep it close now get to 3rd and take it from there

  • Aaeismacgychel

That’s a pretty cool commemorative puck

  • Sopel the catfish

So I’ll take partial blame for that last goal, my whiskey drink was empty and they scored before I could make the next one, sorry Crow

  • Sopel the catfish

    and that’s boarding

  • Aaeismacgychel

Sharp has been a passenger all game. We need more from him.

    • Sopel the catfish

So far has a PP assist, but I would like more as well

  • TitanTransistor

Patrick Kane has been shockingly bad tonight.

    • Aaeismacgychel

He needs to look to shoot first. Tampa is cheating pass whenever he has the puck. That’ll open things up for him

  • USAFA79

On the last goal, it look like the cage got lifted up and the puck slid under the cage

  • DJ

Down one after 40. Okay. Anybody’s game. Time for all hands to contribute.

  • WookRN

Docs so annoying even Pierre doesn’t wanna talk to him….

  • OK Q, get that speedball combo just right for these guys!

  • Aaeismacgychel

Okay 3-2 after 2. Go out and carry the play and we’ll be ok

  • Icdws

Time to move 88 back to line with Richards and steeg. Mix it up force TB to adjust

    • WookRN

      I completely agree.

    • seabsrat

I think I agree.. Versteeg has looked good these 2 games. Maybe black magic is back? Might be worth a couple shifts to see if we can jump start the top 2 lines.

      • WookRN

Yeah. Steeg is TRYING hard….and they’ve worked in the past….

    • DJ

I agree as well. You can always go back to DDN later in the series.

    • Blender to MINCE!

      • WookRN

Lets not go FULL Q. That’s the only move I’d make. Three and four arw perfect….

  • Sopel the catfish

Hawks turn again to get 2 goals in a row, third period will be fun

  • The_Cheeb

Ducks kept Kane down like this for the first 3-ish? games.
    He got loose eventually.

  • HossasPierogi

It’ll be interesting to see if Tampa has anything left in tank in 3rd

    • The_Cheeb

I agree. It will help show us if they played safe Wednesday, or had to back off due to fatigue

  • TitanTransistor

Time to get Kane off the first line.

  • WookRN

Ha . Milbury. Way to be adamant. I don’t always agree, but at least he’s not a oussy about it.

  • ZigZags82

    Let’s Go Hawks!

Tight, disciplined, and play your game. Sense of urgency and complete the comeback!

  • jagdpanther01

Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane… Please pick up the white courtesy phone…No, the white one.

  • DJ

Murray says if Q doesn’t break up Toews and Kane tonight, he might do it Monday, when it might be enhanced by last line change.

    • Icdws

Understood but they are clearly not contributing together tonight

      • DJ

He might trust them enough to give them one more period. Me, I’d split them now.

        Vermette 6-1 at the dot

  • Icdws

Hawks need to take this period and not simply decide they have the split all will be good regardless. TB plays well on the road, 2 wins at UC not a given if TB is given life.

  • To Saad be the glory

Shaw was interviewed on CBC during 2nd intermission. Was bitching about getting choked out in that scrum.

    • The_Cheeb

So we can schedule a dumb penalty from 65?

      • To Saad be the glory

Game 20 regular season Shaw it would be 2-5-10 coming up. Playoff Shaw I doubt it.

    • Sopel the catfish

The post whistle bull shit really grinds my gears, there be pushing and shoving but fines and penalties need to be given for those who won’t leave the scrum after refs blow the whistles and are trying to pull people out. 10K and 2 minute warning will cut that shit right out.

  • Icdws

    81 back on line with19.

  • DJ

    88 with Richards and Steeg

  • Sopel the catfish

    Suck a dick kucherov

  • Sopel the catfish

    weak offsides

  • Sopel the catfish

wtf? cool I guess, I’d prefer Mexican broadcast GOOOOOOOAAAALLLLLL

  • Sopel the catfish

Hey Callahan, Hossa is better at hockey than you

  • DJ

    Seabs!!!! from Tazer!

  • Aaeismacgychel

    That’s gotta be a goal

  • To Saad be the glory

Fuck you refs after that game 6 bullshit vs Anaheim.

  • DJ

100th career playoff point for Toews

  • Icdws

It’s a good thing Q reads this board between periods!

  • Sopel the catfish

    FUCK YES HOCKEY

  • DJ

    Damn it Sharpie. Trips Strahlman.

    • The_Cheeb

200 feet from his own goal…..

  • Aaeismacgychel

Patrick Sharp is an effing moron

  • Sopel the catfish

Liking the “Let’s Go Hawks!” chants I’m hearing from the crowd, they may not be allowed to wear the sweater but they’ll show who they’re rooting for

  • Sopel the catfish

    That’s a dive

    • Icdws

      Embellishment!

    • Aaeismacgychel

Yeah it definitely was, but Patrick Sharp gets full credit. Dumb unnecessary penalty

  • DJ

    Kill this penalty

    • Icdws

Good PK here could be game changing

    • Sopel the catfish

      Some good clears so far

  • WookRN

    Beautiful dive…

  • The Gatest Gamer

TBH that goal was very sketchy

  • TitanTransistor

It’s amazing how many more scoring opportunities and goals the Blackhawks get when they skate it in, vs dumping it where Bishop can casually clear the puck…

  • DJ

    Good kill

    • Sopel the catfish

I was afraid to click on “show comment” until the kill was over lol

  • Sopel the catfish

Weak clear from Saad there after a good effort from Hammer

  • DJ

And Sharp immediately takes another penalty. Imbecile

  • Aaeismacgychel

Patrick Sharp… You trying to lose the game for us?

  • TitanTransistor

The Chicago Blackhawks would like to wish Patrick Sharp all the best in his future endeavours.

  • DJ

Get Sharp off the hook and kill this.

    • Sopel the catfish

I’d like an OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN shortie or a Saad one I called for earlier

  • seabsrat

Man, Sharp has looked pretty damn bad tonight.

    • Aaeismacgychel

I thought so in the 1st. I thought in the 2nd. And I certainly think so right now.

  • The_Cheeb

Two guys we have to trade this summer have sucked the entire playoffs.
    Great job 29 and 10

  • Sopel the catfish

So what was the penalty? Even on the replay I didn’t really see what happened

    • Aaeismacgychel

      Stick to the face

      • Sopel the catfish

Ah, was looking for a trip or hook

        • DJ

That’s what made it especially egregious

      • WookRN

        High stick Sharp.

    • DJ

      High stick

  • DJ

Bishop out of the game. Cramping?

    • The_Cheeb

      equipment…..

  • DJ

    Thanks Sharpie.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Fuck

  • DJ

    Bishop back in the net.

  • Aaeismacgychel

So glad interference isn’t called in the playoffs…

    • DJ

But you can certainly avoid taking stupid obvious ones. Unless you’re Sharp

  • Sopel the catfish

    Another crazy deflection

  • The Gatest Gamer

Seem like bishop is having a meltdown

    • DJ

Either a cramp or an equipment issue?

      • The_Cheeb

        I think equipment.

        • DJ

Too quick a return for the former.

  • Sopel the catfish

    MOAR WHISKEEEY

    • WookRN

Sopel. Work at 11. Have one for me? I prefer bourbon over rye.

      • Sopel the catfish

No bourbon at the moment (unless you consider Jim Beam Redstag as bourbon)

        • Sopel the catfish

It says bourbon on the bottle, but I’d think anyone who drinks actual bourbon they wouldn’t call it that.

          • WookRN

I’ll settle for rye. Or scotch.

          • Sopel the catfish

Seagram’s is in the cup, cherry “bourbon” could be in the shot glass if you so desire

  • Aaeismacgychel

Well, either Tampa is getting puck luck from the hockey gods, or they’re the best at deflections the NHL has ever seen

  • Sopel the catfish

It’s becoming a hockey market big time…only took them a cup and ten years to do it, newbs.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Sharp benched. That’ll help the trade value

    • Aaeismacgychel

      That said, well deserved

  • DJ

    Bishop coming out again…this isn’t equipment…

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Score on this fool

    • DJ

He was drafted immediately after Dragom.

  • The Gatest Gamer

As I said, Bishop is having a meltdown because of that interference

    • Sopel the catfish

Got some sand stuck somewhere does he? (hope that’s not too misogynistic)

  • Icdws

Is that a free timeout? Change goalie?

  • Aaeismacgychel

World class goalie, huh? Let’s test that

  • DJ

Delay of game on Tampa Bay

  • Sopel the catfish

Back on the PP, time for the Dragon to breathe some more fire

  • DJ

    Score here…

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Oh boy, huge penalty

  • TitanTransistor

Damnit. Hawks had momentum, and now a PP.

  • Sopel the catfish

Clownshoes have returned after a good first PP

  • DJ

Icing on Tampa. He may have to burn his time out

  • Sopel the catfish

    Icing

  • DJ

Time out called. After arguing for 20 extra seconds

  • WookRN

    Their D stepped up big.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Fuck you Hedman

  • Aaeismacgychel

Smart move by Keith crossing over there to cost him speed on that icing

  • Sopel the catfish

    Good play from Sharpie there

  • Aaeismacgychel

That sure looked like a to many men on Tampa

    • DJ

They said that on the radio

      • Aaeismacgychel

yeah, thought my eyes were right. Guy jumped off the bench and immediately played the puck

    • Sopel the catfish

Pretty sure we all know at this point the officials give no fucks about the actual rules

  • DJ

Empty net. 1:32 to go. Face off in our offensive zone

  • DJ

    Time out Hawks

  • seabsrat

    Seabs is getting one.

  • Sopel the catfish

LET’S GO HAWKS, GAME’S NOT OVER LET’S DO THIS

  • DJ

    Resetting the time

  • TitanTransistor

Please, keep dumping the puck in.

It’s worked so well, all game long.

  • Sopel the catfish

No icing there? Keith busting his hump to get back and puck still crossed the red line

    • Statman

      Exactly!

  • DJ

    Shit. All even.

Small margins. Game 1 decided when Tampa sat back too passively. This one is squarely on Patrick Fucking Sharp.

  • Aaeismacgychel

How was that not icing? Keith was going full tilt and the puck crossed the line before he touched it

    • Statman

      Agreed!

  • jagdpanther01

Hang that one on two stupid penalties in a row

    • DJ

Precisely. Sharp needs to fucking own it in the post game interviews.

      • Black JEM

        He will

        • DJ

He’d fucking better. And the media better hold him to it.

    • Black JEM

Yep = and Crawford. Two pretty bad goals given up. Should have been at least tied.

      • Aaeismacgychel

1 bad goal. No way you can put a 2nd one on him. 2 ridiculous deflections and a completely blind shot after making two or three saves

        • Black JEM

The second one was the one he totally screwed up on. He wasn’t tracking the puck at all. He wasn’t screened. he just lost it. If he follows the puck the tip hits his pad. And the third one was bad as well.

          • Black JEM

SO lets say one and a half bad goals and two stupid penalties.

We dominated pretty much and lost. Goofy game.

          • Aaeismacgychel

No. The puck was 8ft wide of the net and took a ridiculous tip on the 2nd. There is beyond nothing he could do there. No goalie in the world makes that save

          • Black JEM

No he wasn’t tracking the puck – everybody wasted him – including his coach in the in game interview.

Crow and Sharp were not good.

        • The_Cheeb

Sorry brother Aaeis…..Crow’s footwork and position were bad on second goal. Play happened right in front of him. This is the SCF. Top notch goalie play is expected, not wished for.

  • TitanTransistor

Patrick Sharp is free to walk back to Chicago.

    Wearing his skates.

  • Statman

Difference = one very weak goal by Johnson

    • DJ

Just saw the highlight. It was very weak. Crow needs to own that one.

      • Black JEM

And the second one. He wasn’t seeing the puck well at all. He also almost gave up a shorty. Just wasn’t quite with it for a few minutes.

  • Sopel the catfish

Losing isn’t fun, however the Hawks still took one out of the first two, as per the game plan. Some bad moments for the Hawks, it took plenty of horseshit officiating and some more fluky deflections (save one weak goal by Crow) for lightning to win. This all lines up with my thinking (hoping) of Hawks in 6. Take the next 2, let the Tampa fans get their hopes up with a game 5 victory only to crush their souls in game 6.

    • WookRN

And what’s the word on Bishop?

    • DJ

There were some good aspects. A relatively even start, as opposed to the first game. Continued good play from the bottom six – that will continue to be an advantage. But a core guy like Sharp cannot fuck up like that.

      Defend home ice Monday

  • jordyhawk

    We gifted them that.

    • Sopel the catfish

We are a kind an benevolent team, sweeping them would just be too mean.

      • jordyhawk

        I prefer the hard heart.

    • TitanTransistor

They gifted us the first game. So we’re even?

    • Jim

2 softies by Crawford + Back to Back dumb soft penalties by Sharp = L

      • jordyhawk

Too sloppy, undisciplined. We got what we deserved.

  • Sopel the catfish

So what the is southeastern equivalent of Penisloaf? Need a good name for Hedman

  • Statman

Likely does not change the outcome, but did anyone want to see a few of those offside calls against the Hawks on a replay? I lost count of how many were VERY weak calls.

  • Sharp goes full retard

  • William Retseck

    Where are you Kaner?

    • TitanTransistor

Oh, he was out there. And he was quite visibly bad.

  • DJ

Crow acknowledges the Johnson goal was “not one I wanna give up.”

    • Statman

      One admission complete. Mr. Sharp?

      • ZigZags82

        He did.

  • Sopel the catfish

What the fuck kind of idiot statement is that? first time in 11 years the Stanley cup final is split 1-1, like the Hawks also did it in 2013. Why can’t I get money to say all kinds of stupid shit?

    • DJ

Who said that? If it was McEwen, some poor researcher is in trouble….

      • Sopel the catfish

Whatever lady NBC is following around with the camera

        • DJ

Oh, Peggy Kasinski? Then that’s stupid and solely on her.

        • To Saad be the glory

They give Edzo a day off to play with the ponies and all hell breaks loose

  • To Saad be the glory

Both of those calls on Sharp were bullshit considering some of the stuff they were letting go. Even CBC(yeah, sportsnet,I get it) said the tripping call was weak after a love tap on the pant leg and that the Tampa player lost an edge.
However,it is what it is and all we have to do is defend home ice and we are gtg.

    • To Saad be the glory

And yeah,Sharp did have a shitty game regardless.

    • DJ

The second penalty was the egregious one. Turn the puck over in your own end and then take the penalty? Fuck that.

    • Statman

The penalty against Oduya was bogus too. Filppula squeezes his legs together to “clamp” Johnny’s stick so that he can “trip”.

      • The_Cheeb

Dude, Oduya made an accidental, but textbook trip.
Stick went between his legs, good call. You would have burst into flames if it was the other way and no call was made.

        • Brandon Murray

Agreed. The one thing I will say is that during that play I turned to my dad and said this “I hate when an offensive player squeezes through a tunnel of two defenders who are pivoting and makes incidental contact with a stick. I mean it is a penalty by rule, but by definition it is the offensive player creating the contact.

          • Sopel the catfish

Just as Shaw getting taken down after the lightning player layed out to hit the puck away. NHL changed the rule to state even if puck is hit first it is still a penalty. About 30 seconds later lightning scored instead of being down a man. Refs suck ass and ruin games.

          • Brandon Murray

Truer words have not been spoken.

          • Dangles-a-Plenty

Yeah I said the same fucking thing to my brother. Shaw got fucking taken down, how is that not tripping? Like full on submarine tripping. How the fuck do you miss that?

  • seabsrat

So strange to me as Crawford is typically so positionally sound that he didn’t even really flinch on the two redirect goals in this series. I’m referring to the second goal tonight and the goal from game 1.

I know both shots looked like they were going well wide, but he just didn’t even react. Just very strange.

    • Black JEM

I can give him Wednesday night – that was just odd. Tonight it was like he wasn’t even watching it as it was coming towards a TB player. Terrible positioning. If he is just tracking it hits his pad. Oh well.

      • CurvedBlade

I’d like to see darling. Crow isn’t his best right now for what ever reason. That is why you have a backup.

        • Sopel the catfish

No. Crow has always responded well after poor outings and in no way is this entire game on his shoulders.

        • DJ

No, this isn’t enough for a switch. Nowhere near enough.

        • WookRN

          Are you fucking serious!?!
          No.
          Consisant goalie.
If they bring their back up, take a look.

          • CurvedBlade

Bite me nurse, you need to watch hockey a little longer before you make idiot comments. Tough shit if you don’t like someone else’s comments.

Crow was OFTEN not square to the puck, slow to move.

If I’m tampa, I take as many shots as possible from around the goal line. For what ever reason, Crow is not sealing off the side of the net. He’s been beaten badly on the short side twice now.

          • Sopel the catfish

You need to watch hockey a little longer if you think you put your backup in during the stanley cup finals instead of your Cup Winning Starter who has played incredibly well for the majority of this post season.

          • The_Cheeb

Nurse posted a bit roughly there, but still correct. Crow is previous SCF winner who should own a Conn Smythe. Whether or not he wins the SCF again, it would be the dumbest Q move EVER to put in an untested newbie. Darling’s last two periods of playoffs, he gave up 3 goals per period, right?

          • DJ

After one bad game? I assume you don’t think he played badly on Wednesday. Based on that, this would be too quick a switch.

That said, a session with Waite may be needed.

          • seabsrat

I thought Crawford didn’t have his strongest game tonight, but I’d still really rather have him in net. He was such a big part of why we won game 1 and why we are even this far into the post season at all. Darling was great in relief in Nashville, but there is a reason Crow has a cup.

          • WookRN

Pull a winner with a save % over 9.2 for a rookie who happens to be a local. I’ll take Q over you.

          • ZigZags82

I mean that’s the book on him. Seems to have worked out for his career so far.

        • Black JEM

Yeah you don’t switch now. Crow normally comes back strong.

        • Brandon Murray

Absolutely not. Remember the SCF in 2013? Crow had a couple of games where he made mistakes, but he always bounced back. Darling was our savior in Nashville, but has sat for too long. Even Cooper for TB will admit that if he can’t go to Bishop in game 3 he will be worried, he won’t ever say it but he will be thinking it. TB has had some serious deflections go in and even though no one will say it, that goal by Johnson wasn’t much different than Tazer’s goal against Andersen in game 5, just bank it off the goalie and sometimes crazy shit happens.

    • HossasPierogi

      There’s no time to react

  • Brandon Murray

While I hate losing, ultimately the necessary plan was to gain a split. They did that. Tampa didn’t get here by being a shitty team. However, the pace was fantastic and the Hawks had an answer for everything the Lightning threw at them. I didn’t expect a sweep.

I will be looking forward to the possibility of facing a back-up goaltender (maybe?) at the UC because even though Pierre gushed about his performance in stopping every shot he faced, I didn’t ee one that I’d consider a quality chance.

The SCF are meant to be the highest possible competition of the year and it has lived up to the billing through 2. We had more shots, more F/O wins, and showcased just as much speed as TB.

Let’s go home and protect home ice and head back up 3-1. It won’t be easy but it is certainly possible. Just don’t lay a turd like they did in game 3 against Anaheim. I wonder if for this game 3 Q is considering benching TT?

Mission accomplished and oh so close to a 2-0 lead. Let’s make it 2-1 on Monday.

    • Sopel the catfish

      Kimmo for Sharp!

      • Brandon Murray

        I’d buy that for a dollar………

    • The_Cheeb

Can we call an end to the bench Teuvo / bench Vermy remarks?
It’s gone many miles beyond repetitive / boring / cheap / dumb.
      Otherwise, great post….. :^)

      • Brandon Murray

Dumb and repetitive are my specialties, but yeah I get it. Just trying to make myself chuckle after an oh so close one tonight.

      • Bob Lanz

As dumb as the coach who actually did it agreed

    • DJ

Well said. Some self-inflicted wounds there.

      Tazer seemed disappointed, but confident.

Wow. Kane did not have a shot on goal tonight. If I’m Tampa, I really circle his number on the white board. He’s gonna come out blazing.

    • Hockey Newbie

I agree with the sentiments here Brandon. I imagine that coming in cold, and facing the immediate pressure of a desperate Hawk’s team is rough, but there were no real in tight, between the dots grade a chances yet the announcers were all over his jock. As were the jags of the NHL network. Biron is so annoying, but I digress

  • CurvedBlade

Q at the press conference — Crawford was just okay.

    • Sopel the catfish

Made some huge saves, let in a softie, he didn’t steal the game but he sure didn’t cost them the game *cough sharp cough*

    • To Saad be the glory

      Damnit Crawstink you suck!

    • DJ

“tied in the third…in the right spot…and let it get away.”

  • Bob Lanz

Hate losing ugh. With that said Kaner was shut down again I don’t get it. Anyways they played a full 60, sharpie bad penalties Biscuit is the man and Dragon boy was all over it again.

    • TitanTransistor

What’s not to get? He played badly again.

We just have to hope there’s a good game coming from him soon to balance the ledger.

Would probably also help if Q sheltered him even more. Clearly he’s having a tough time with this level of competition.

      • ZigZags82

Kane doesn’t really have a problem with the level of competition……..he’s been a slow starter before.

      • HossasPierogi

All of your viewpoints are negative.

  • The_Cheeb

Any chance Q will sub 29 for 10? It sounds crazy, but…..Q likes to try players who need to redeem themselves…..

    • DJ

There may be an injury thing with Bicks.

      • The_Cheeb

I’m on the fence with that theory…maybe, maybe not.

    • To Saad be the glory

Q and Bowman don’t have the marbles to bench the 6 mil dollar man in the finals, plus it was (yeah,he aint been great the whole playoffs) just one bad game.

      • The_Cheeb

Yeah, it just pains my ass that the two contracts we absolutely have to dump this summer are becoming harder to trade with every game. Was hoping the Vermy / Kimmo draft picks could be re-acquired for 10 and 29 but now……

        • ZigZags82

I mean there are dumb NHL teams. There will be interest after this 3rd Cup.

    • Brandon Murray

Would be tough because you just know that Sharpie can score at any moment. He hasn’t yet, but it is coming…..

    • WookRN

I agree with DJ. I thought Bicks had a lower body issue.
I think Sharp stays. Maybe TVR for Cumiskey?

      • DJ

It wasn’t a lower body injury. They did a concussion test, and he passed. The speculation was migraines or a vertigo-type thing. I suffer from tension/migraine headaches, and they are not fun.

        • WookRN

          Right on.
Also, for what it’s worth, I MEANT to say upper body injury, but I was thinking more arm/shoulder.

PURE speculation, but I thought he was skating OK, but had no power in his shot, and even his open net shots were off target.

  • Sopel the catfish

Thank you actual Sopel for being a voice of reason for Crow

    • To Saad be the glory

Actual Sopel rules. I hear him on the score sometimes.

      • Sopel the catfish

Dude knows his hockey, he also earned the right to have his name forever on The Cup.

        • Brandon Murray

Not too mention a wicked ‘stache and still has some pretty solid flow.

          • Sopel the catfish

If I was 25 years older and had a daughter I’d let Sopel date her.

          • To Saad be the glory

I’m tired of bitching about Crow and Sharp. What were you drinking tonight drunken good luck charm?

          • Sopel the catfish

Same as the last 3 games, mah Seabrook’s 7 of Seagram’s and Barqs. Can’t win them all, and even though there was a long layoff between games I apparently had burned through my cool downs (that’s a nerd joke FYI for all y’all who don’t get it)

          • To Saad be the glory

Cool downs lol, yeah I get it.

          • Brandon Murray

We all have these stupid rituals we go through religiously, hoping we are doing our part to help the team win. It is the same routine (if possible). God I love playoff hockey and the outrageous superstitions we bring with it.

          • WookRN

            Iced Fucking tea.
Back to Evil Twin for game 3

    • Jim

Crow made a lot of nice saves, but a couple of the goals looked soft.

  • Bob Lanz

    I’m exhausted good night

  • DJ

Sharp rather downcast. Says Crow played “great”. Losing “ridiculous.”

Well all right then. Nothing else to do but move on.

  • Brandon Murray

All I know is these guys are pros, even Crow. Had I been in net, the Lightning would have scored 367 goals through 2, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Oh and at home in game 3 I expect a huge storm coming from 19 & 88. Be afraid, be very afraid….

    • The_Cheeb

Lightning only had about 50 total SOG, a few would have hit you in the face, and your saggy junk would have covered your five hole.
I’m saying you would have held them to 34 goals.

  • Sopel the catfish

Much like your third D pair and at times your 4th line players, the hope is to not notice them in the sense that if you don’t notice bad things from them then it is mission accomplished, anything good is just icing on the cake. I feel the same way about officials, and unfortunately there was a great number of times tonight that I “noticed” the officiating.

    • DJ

The great soccer ref Pierluigi Collina was once asked about that. Now it was hard for him to not be noticed (a medical condition causes him to be completely bald). But he said “once in a while you can’t avoid being noticed. There’s a situation and every single eye looks at you. You have to get the call right.”

In this case…it’s consistency. You’ve got to call the same things — or not call them — both ways, and early and late in the game.

      • WookRN

I think it’s better than the Ducks series, but still needs work. There are some noticeable errors.

  • To Saad be the glory

Funny how many “road trips” the Hawks have been on these playoffs. 4 straight on the road at the end of the Wild series and the start of the ducks series. They won 3 out of 4. 3 Games at the end of the ducks series and the start of the lightning series. They won 2 out of 3. Not too bad if you look at it from that perspective.

    • Marino

That is a great point. We would be happy with .667 win percentages no he road most of the time.

  • HawkIPA

Watched this on dvr. I thought the Hawks played a great game. Terrible penalty by Sharp more to blame than the soft goal. Bolts showed me nothing I should be scared of. Crow bounces back in G3, and I expect a big win

    • ballyb11

Tampa’s offense scares me. The way they come into the zone and set up in front of the net, screening and looking for deflections is impressive.

  • DJ

So…TVR in for whom? Rundblad? Other than that, you might go with the same players dressed. Need Kane to show up, Sharp to rebound, Versteeg to maintain…

    • seabsrat

I’m one of TVR’s biggest fans, but I’m still so weary of bringing him in this late into the postseason. But then again, I feel like he could not play for a whole year and come in and play better defense than Rundblad does.

    • HawkIPA

Kane will be heard from. He’s impossible to keep down for an entire series.

      • ballyb11

        It’s “improbable”.

  • seabsrat

Hahaha, indeed, I did mean “leery”. Forgive me, my mind has grown weary over the course of the evening due to the loss and from the contributions of nitwits.

    • DJ

Aw, you should have blamed it on auto-correct.

      • seabsrat

        Is there still time?

It was my phone’s autocorrect and stupid disqus mobile! Yeah, that’s the real reason.

        • WookRN

Love TVR. but with two injuries thus year, limited season time, no post season time…. If I were Q, I probably wouldn’t do it. Maybe he just said that to screw with peolle

      • Sopel the catfish

Speech to text could be a second culprit.

  • Sopel the catfish

On an unrelated note, USPS tracking is by far the worst of all carriers. Every other one (including freight forwarders) at least gives an estimated delivery date. Gov’t service merely tells you were it was last scanned.

    • ballyb11

Calling the USPS a “carrier” is a stretch.

  • Sopel the catfish

Hawks haven’t lost two in a row all playoffs, and have won two in a row (when possible) about half of the time following a loss. This is one of the few times on a Saturday night that I’m actually looking forward to a Monday. Game 3 here we come.

  • DJ

TVA network in Montréal saying Bishop suffered a knee injury. That could be very interesting if true. You certainly don’t want to see guys get hurt and knocked out of the lineup, but Tampa may have to go with a rookie goalie in the Final. Just hope he doesn’t become another Ken Dryden.

    • WookRN

Thanks for the update. I can’t find shit.

    • ballyb11

Please no Dryden. Not fond memories.

  • HossasPierogi

All goalies give up soft ones now and then. Don’t dwell on it.

  • Patorioto

I still feel like the Bolts defense and bottom two lines are far inferior and if you throw in possibly losing your starting goaler then they should be very worried.

In a must win game at home they just barely won against a Hawks team that got zero contribution from the top lines and saw Crawford give up a softie or two.

Kane and Toews will come through and I expect Kaner is going to break out in a big way at home. They won’t stay quiet all series.
