• Aaeismacgychel

Bickell injured and out. No word yet on who the replacement player will be. Versteeg? Nordstrom? Hartman?

  • ZigZags82

    Hawks in 6. And……

  • ZigZags82

    Let’s Go Hawks!

Final few steps here. Start tonight. Tight, disciplined, and play your game!

  • The_Cheeb

Best guess is the ‘Ning come out full barrel, guns-a-blazing’…..can the Hawks survive the opening salvo?

  • Aaeismacgychel

Steeger in for Bickell. Oh and Steeger, in this game for the love of god, don’t be bad Versteeg and regularly turn the puck over at the Tampa blue line. I’d like to see as few 1 on 0 and 2 on 0s as possible for Tampa.

    • Sopel the catfish

He hasn’t really had poor play in the finals, so I guess there’s that

      • Aaeismacgychel

From your keyboard to the vacant area inbetween Steeger’s ears

  • Marian Brossa

Oh wow those stands looked red.

  • Peanut Butter

Nice #11…way to have the D’s backs.

    • Sopel the catfish

      I was thinking the same

      • Peanut Butter

I always enjoy when we’re on the same page. 🙂

        • Sopel the catfish

          It usually ends well

  • Sopel the catfish

    Yay for dumpster fires

  • Aaeismacgychel

Oooooooooookay, let’s calm it down a bit out there, huh? Geez

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Oh wow that was close.

  • Peanut Butter

Ok but if the Tampa D men are going to be so aggressive then they can’t be defensive at the same time so maybe we can make some offense happen (if we can get out of our own zone)

  • Sopel the catfish

Our captain is still better than the other captain. Fuck you Pierre, “almost as well”

  • Peanut Butter

Seems like they’re baiting Versteeg…hope he doesn’t take it and do something stupid.

  • Leggohogwks

Game will be won against Tampa 3rd and 4th lines

  • Peanut Butter

I don’t even know what the hell kind of shot that was.

  • Leggohogwks

    Shit Goal

  • spotlight312

    that’s one is on Crow

    • Peanut Butter

Seriously? You think he should have been able to stop that?

      • Leggohogwks

He did get a little lazy but it still was a weird goal

      • spotlight312

He was distracted. His reflex needs to be better than the guy that scored.

        • Peanut Butter

Keith got beat to the puck and Seabrook was pretty much just standing in front of the net. Meantime the Tampa player basically piroette’d, and backhanded the puck out of mid-air and you want to put it on Crow?

          • spotlight312

            Did I stutter?

          • CurvedBlade

crow out of position to the puck… softie.

    • Aaeismacgychel

I have to agree in that his positioning should’ve been better. That said, the puck could’ve been deflected anywhere.

    • HossasPierogi

      ??

      • spotlight312

Watch the replay. His posture was relaxed. He wasn’t expecting the shot. He wasn’t even trying to look over the screen. In short, he wasn’t paying attention. Gotta be more aware that;s all. It’s only 1 goal. This shouldn’t be a big deal.

        • Jim

Yes, and he wasn’t even attempting to cover the post. If he was in position he should have been in that was routine.

  • Sopel the catfish

Seriously Fuck you Pierre, these ain’t the redwings take their cocks out if your mouth

  • Sopel the catfish

How nice of the officials to show up, no call for Toews getting taken down

  • Sopel the catfish

    Time for a Saad shortie

  • DJ

Fluky goal, stupid penalty. Not the best of starts. Long way to go tonight.

  • Aaeismacgychel

That was a stupid as hell penalty, Andrew. We cannot take those type of penalties against this team

  • DJ

    Good kill

  • Sopel the catfish

Good onya Desi, Fuck you morrow

  • Aaeismacgychel

Crawford’s not only a punching bag for the media and meatball fans but also for every opponent it seems considering how much contact they’re allowed to have with him.

  • CurvedBlade

    Saad looking dangerous on offense.

  • DJ

If we can break out of our own zone, with the way they’re punching in, we could have some tasty opportunities.

  • Aaeismacgychel

We also may want to win a faceoff at some point

    • DJ

I’d first like a few more face offs in our offensive zone

    • Hockey Newbie

Bruce Boudreau seconds that. 🙂 Good thing it ended better for us than him.

  • DJ

I don’t think that will be our last two-on-one

  • Aaeismacgychel

The only positives I’m taking out of this period is that if we’re only down 1 after spending 19 of 20 minutes in our own zone, we’re in better position than we were after our 1st period in Game 5 garbage

  • HossasPierogi

Only first period and Edzo and Pierre have me looking for an AM radio

    • Jim

I can’t stand Edzo. He is obviously a Hawks fan, and in his effort to be “even handed” on a national broadcast go too far the other way.

      Wish he would retire.

  • Leggohogwks

isnt that a delay of game

    • Aaeismacgychel

No. He didn’t put his glove over the puck – he just “accidentally laid on it”

    • DJ

I don’t think so; it was a shot block. Put your hand over it, and it’s delay.

  • Sopel the catfish

You can’t try that pass Hoss

  • DJ

    4-12 on face offs. Bad.

    • WookRN

Yeah. That’s the advantage to took us the Ducks series….

  • DJ

Hawks power play. Let’s build some momentum

  • Sopel the catfish

    Crosschrck good call

  • Aaeismacgychel

Worse visual on that penalty than what actually happened, but I’ll take it.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Sharp should have had that

  • Sopel the catfish

What the Fuck kind of offside is that?

    • Aaeismacgychel

It was. Oduya put it in the the zone with a Hawks player still in it. He left, but another Hawks player entered before that 1st player left. It was offsides but a weird visual

      • Sopel the catfish

Saw the pass, thought it was offside but dumb timing on the whistle

  • DJ

Okay. A…shall we say, mediocre period. Yet we’re only down 1-0. Bear down at the dot to start and go from there.

    • Agreed…coulda been worse after the first 10 minutes or so.

      • DJ

A scoreless first could have been a fair outcome. This isn’t really an unfair outcome. I trust I’ve made myself obscure 🙂

    • Aaeismacgychel

I’ll go so far as to say it was a lackluster/bad period. We just need to come out in the 2nd like we did in Game 5 against the Ducks.

    • Jim

Crow was just standing there on that goal.

  • Red Grange

All in all, Crow looked pretty good in that period.

  • sc33

    “Triplets line”

Almost as creative and catchy as “Line with three guys on it”

  • CurvedBlade

Okay, expected tampa to come out with max energy. 2nd should be more balanced. We’ll take em.

  • HawkIPA

That went how I expected it would. Encouraged by how it ended.

  • To Saad be the glory

Jeese, Don Cherry just said he thinks Seabrook is the best dman in the league….

    • Aaeismacgychel

      LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • DJ

Kruger 1-4 on face offs. He needs to win his fair share.

    • Aaeismacgychel

As sad as it is, my first thought after reading that was “that probably le the Hawks in the 1st”

  • seabsrat

That was a reay nice redirect, but I’m a little disappointed Crow wasn’t hugging the post.. I know it looked like it was going well wide, but he was kind of just standing there. Team’s gotta shake it off and be better in period 2!

  • Jim

1-0 seems about right, Tampa won the period, however should really be 0-0.
But in the long run, it is probably good, Crawford is now wide awake.

  • CurvedBlade

Saad is going to have a big series. Place your bets.

  • Sopel the catfish

One period of the first game, q hasn’t gotten matchup crazy and a home team hasn’t lost, still a long series

    • Jim

Don’t need to rationalize yet. Hawks might still win tonight.

  • Nittacci

OK, Tampa’s gotten the Hawks’ attention now. Make them regret it.

  • Sopel the catfish

what the fuck is with the shots of pierre charging hos phone? if Samsung wants a commercial make a commercial

  • DJ

    Back to the power play

  • Red Grange

30 seconds into the period and three turnovers in the neutral zone.

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Ok, off to the PP

  • DJ

    Blecchh

  • Aaeismacgychel

There’s a lot of time left, but we really don’t look like we have “it” today

    • DJ

Keep it at 0-1 and you won’t need all that much

  • DJ

    Shaw 3-0 at the dot

    • WookRN

Hes not bad on face offs, in my opinion he just sucks at center due to the two way. Dude gets low and doesn’t have the speed to make it up.

  • WookRN

    They seriously booing EVERY Hawk?

    • Peanut Butter

I was at a game in the regular season and they were just booing Keith though I never really knew why.

      • WookRN

        JV bull shit fans???

        • Peanut Butter

Seemed to me more like they might have a history with him though I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what.

  • TitanTransistor

Ben Bishop pitching the easiest shut-out in the history of hockey. Completely untested save one decent Kane chance.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Okay, finally starting to pick it up a bit. Keep pushing and probing the net. Bishop hasn’t been tested much, but he doesn’t look the most comfortable out there. Get some shots and crash for rebounds.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Teuvo time coming up

  • Jim

Hawks starting to figure this out. They are getting more possession, and offensive zone time.

  • DJ

    Finally! Too many men!

    • Sopel the catfish

      I thought 7 was ok

  • DJ

    PPG please…

  • Aaeismacgychel

    GET THE PUCK TO RICHARDS

  • TitanTransistor

Blackhawks cannot win a faceoff to save their lives. Gross.

  • Aaeismacgychel

    That. Was. God. Awful.

  • Jim

That was a weak power play.

  • TitanTransistor

Yep. Looks like a Quenneville powerplay.

  • Sopel the catfish

The return of the clown shoes

  • Jim

Hawks D at least looks to be containing them.

  • DJ

It’s one thing not to score, but weak entrances and turnovers in the zone?? Do the little things well first of all… 🙁

  • #86 fighting it a little tonight.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Oh no

  • DJ

Weak penalty on Steeg. Murray says he was tripped.

    • Sopel the catfish

Is it the same crew from ducks series?

      • DJ

Not sure. They cut the officials pool from 8 refs and 8 linesmen to 4 of each

        • Sopel the catfish

So far it seems the picked the wrong 4

          • DJ

Four refs and 4 linesmen. You’ll see the other four officials Saturday, I’d guess. Then they’ll go forward on merit

    • Hockey Newbie

So it is OK to run into a goalie’s glove if he is near the top of the crease, but being tripped and doing a header into the goal post is goalie interference? Guess I am not getting that one.

  • DJ

    Kill this

  • Aaeismacgychel

LMFAO! THAT’S GOALTENDER INTERFERENCE? REALLY? LMFAO

    • Aaeismacgychel

Unbefreakinleivable. Tripped into the goalpost=goaltender interference. Actually slashing, punching, and checking of the goaltender=fair play.

  • To Saad be the glory

Hedman tripped him with his skate when he went to stop, what a joke

  • Sopel the catfish

    Saad shortie, I demand it

  • TitanTransistor

Only Versteeg could take a penalty and hurt himself in the process.

    • WookRN

      Fuck off

      He was tripped.

      HARD

    • Aaeismacgychel

Not sure what he’s supposed to do, he went after the puck, forechecked, won the puck, went to the net, and was tripped into the post. What the frak should he have done?

      • DJ

Versteeg could walk across Tampa Bay and Transistor would complain that Versteeg can’t swim.

    • To Saad be the glory

CBC showed Hedman doing a “hockey stop” with his skates and Versteeg tripped up over them when he went to stop.

      • WookRN

NBC showed Herman jamming his skates into Versteegs.

  • WookRN

    Un Fucking real!

  • DJ

    Good kill

  • DJ

Some tired TB players here on this face off after icing.

  • HawkIPA

Versteeg looking pretty good out there. Nice sequence

  • Aaeismacgychel

Well, we might be witnessing pissed the hell off Versteeg. I seriously would not doubt him getting a goal here.

    • He deserves it after that post to the head. Wouldn’t even wish that on…Versteeg.

    • Peanut Butter

Hawk players tend to have great games and goals after the birth of their children. Even Car Bomb did I think. Fingers crossed Papa Steeger gets one tonight.

  • Sopel the catfish

Goalpost jogged Steegers memory of good VERSTEEG, keep up the good play and stay healthy

    • Leggohogwks

Even before goal post was a good play, BS call hedman tripped him

    • Dangles-a-Plenty

He’s looking extra-dangley today but is actually creating off the dangles, this is okay with me

  • GoldenJet

    Props to Steeger so far.

  • DJ

Crow stops Stamkos twice. Yoiks. A little help here…

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Corey effing Crawford. Holy frak.

    • Sopel the catfish

he’s supposed to be bad though

      • Aaeismacgychel

He’s so so bad. If only the Hawks would’ve released him to the ECHL in that 1st game against Nashville.

        • Sopel the catfish

Totally, Darling would have won the cup by now

          • To Saad be the glory

            Chicago native,noob.

          • Dangles-a-Plenty

But he’s from around deez parts eh? By default that makes him better

  • Peanut Butter

I want Papa Steeger to score.

  • DJ

A bit more even, but not much more. We need to make Bishop actually work.

  • HawkIPA

Still 1-0. Game is there for the taking. I like our chances.

    • DJ

This one, or Saturday. Either one = mission accomplished.

      • WookRN

        Key

  • BestPredsForward

Game summary so far: Eh, it could be worse.

  • TitanTransistor

Crawford ensuring the game isn’t 4-0 after 2.

Hope the Blackhawks find something in the 3rd.

  • The_Cheeb

A few shots by Hawks outside the post, they need to stop trying for the perfect corner and cause rebounds.

  • Aaeismacgychel

I don’t think Bishop has seen a single shot that has come off Richards’ or Hossa’s stick. Get someone, anyone (Shaw) in front of him and fire the puck high glove or high stick.

    • Leggohogwks

I’m surprised they havent been going low glove/blocker on a goalie his size, it worked against Rinne

    • Sopel the catfish

The book on bishop has been “he goes down early elevate the puck” if you believe nbc announcers

  • GoldenJet

Lightning have been going for the upper corners with almost everything.

    • Jim

Wish the Hawks would do that.

  • Jim

    Can still win this one.

  • Dangles-a-Plenty

Starting to win faceoffs it seems like. Q Matchups, engage.

  • Jim
    • seabsrat

Not that I’d put it past Shaw, but the level of his head and where Hedman was showing the mark didn’t seem to match up. Also, biting through a jersey wouldn’t be an easy task.

But I could also very easily be 100% wrong.

    • WookRN

Until I see evidence, I’m calling bull shit.
not that Shaw WOULDNT so much as their only evidence is “expert lipreader”

      • Sopel the catfish

I don’t really have any hate for lightning but hedman is working good way up to it

      • DJ

Their evidence is what Hedman THINKS happened. Let’s see the mark, if any.

  • What’s with TB fans’ penchant for booing the power play rush up the ice? Is that their thing? I don’t remember it from prior rounds, though I may just have missed it.

    • Aaeismacgychel

I think they’re booing Keith though not at all sure why

      • I thought that the first couple times, but I think they were booing every subsequent Hawk starting up the PP from their own zone. Could be wrong, though.

        • Peanut Butter

Was at a game there in the regular season and they’re booing Keith though I also don’t know why.

    • WookRN

      Booing. Sure sign of class…

  • ZigZags82

    Let’s Go Hawks!

Strong finish here. Tight, disciplined, and play your game to steal this one!

  • TitanTransistor

We could be witnessing history. Lowest workload shutout in the history of the NHL playoffs.

    • HawkIPA

I think we’ll witness a comeback win instead

      • Guest

        You called it!

      • Sopel the catfish

Points! (do you watch @midnight? you should, we all should)

    • seabsrat

We need the most positive version of you right now, Titan.

      • WookRN

Is that a thing. Can we donate beer?

      • Guest

        That doesn’t exist.

  • HawkIPA

    Nice shift

  • TitanTransistor

    Great shift

  • Sopel the catfish

    Hammer with the good d

    • TitanTransistor

      *restrains self*

      • Sopel the catfish

        He plays hard

  • DJ

All that possession, only one shot.

    • rhodes

It’s ok. It starts with possession. They were not getting that earlier.

      • DJ

Oh, I agree. But now you need the shots. And some possession in the middle of the offensive zone.

        • rhodes

          Yep, agree.

          • Sopel the catfish

Woa calm down guys, we’re all friends here

          • rhodes

YOU ARE SUCH A FUCKING REASONABLE GUY!

  • DJ

Gotta get to the center of the offensive zone.

  • HawkIPA

Just a little off on that pass – story of the night

  • rhodes

Tb looks like they are watching more.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Richards-Hossa-Versteeg. Something is going to happen

    • DJ

      Hossa getting rambunctious

  • TitanTransistor

I love Hossa, but he has seriously lost the ability to pick a corner. His goals are almost always along the ice now, and if not, it’s straight to the goalie’s crest.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Lucky they didn’t call goaltender interference on Shaw there, lol

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Guys, shoot the bloody puck

  • DJ

Teuvo might want to look to shoot first a little bit more.

    • Sopel the catfish

Soon, took Kane awhile to learn, teuvo doing it sooner tough

  • DJ

Good sequence there. Keep it up.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Versteeg playing a heck of a game. He deserves one.

    • Sopel the catfish

*in Bickekl taco voice “make it three”

  • rhodes

Amazing how different these team look between the 1st and 3rd.

  • TitanTransistor

    SCORE A FUCKING GOAL!

  • Eddie_The_Eagle50

Has Bishop had to make even a mildly tough save tonight? If he has I don’t remember it.

    • rhodes

      Not that I remember.

    • Aaeismacgychel

I think he made 1. The glove snatch on Kane that was headed to Toews or into the net in the 1st. That’s it.

    • TitanTransistor

      No.

Easiest shutout in NHL playoff history.

  • Brandon Murray

Everything is just a touch off this evening. I’m more upset about us being out of sync than I am impressed with Tampa’s play.

  • DJ

Need to jump on a turnover…they’re packing it in.

  • rhodes

Versteeg’s going to need some ice later.

  • Eddie_The_Eagle50

Can’t wait for the fuckwits in the media to say Bishop outplayed Crow

  • rhodes

    Crawford.

  • TitanTransistor

At least Crawford remembered there was a game tonight.

  • Sopel the catfish

Crow sucks, hasn’t scored a goal, or gotten any assists or hits tonight, where’s the grit?

  • DJ

    tie game!!

  • HawkIPA

    Dragon!

  • DJ

    Teuvo!!!

  • Aaeismacgychel

    GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL TEUVO!!!!!!

  • rhodes

TT TT TT TT TT !!!!!!!

  • TiVo time!

  • TitanTransistor

    TEUVO!

  • Sopel the catfish

Teuvo time! Saader with the gwg coming up

  • rhodes

Sneaky. Little. Shit. What a beauty!

  • To Saad be the glory

    The Finnish Messiah!!

  • Peanut Butter

    Teuvo!!!

  • Brandon Murray

Love that kid! Let’s get another!!

  • DJ

Bishop did not see it. So much traffic in front.

  • Jim

    TiVo!

  • DJ

    Get a game winner, Hawks!

  • Nittacci

    Now they smell it.

  • DJ

    Sharpie just wide!

  • HawkIPA

    Fuck! Wide open net!

  • Sopel the catfish

been awhile since we’ve seen triple ot…Keith needs to play more

  • DJ

Now Tampa can’t pack it in. That turnover just might come…

Tampa Bay needs a time out. Murray says they’re sucking wind.

  • Aaeismacgychel

    Man… If Kaner scored that.

  • DJ

    Vermette!!!!!! B

    • rhodes

I love it. I’m about 8 seconds behind. You I saw your comment and started watching for the goal.

  • HawkIPA

    Wow! Vermette!

  • Jim

    VERMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Aaeismacgychel

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!! VERMETTTE!!!

  • DJ

    Off the turnover!!! 2-1 Hawks!

  • To Saad be the glory

    yeah buddy!!

  • DJ

    2 in 1:58.

  • #86 NOT fighting it any longer.

  • Jim

Q’s Healthy Scratches from Game 3, Vermette, Tivo

    • DJ

Recall that Versteeg (who stunk in that Game 3) is playing pretty well tonight.

  • HawkIPA

Don’t stop now. TB push is coming

  • Jim

    Tampa in friggin shock.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Teuvo is good at hockey

    • cza

Tonight I finally realized the treat that is Sopel’s pregame commentary, and now I am filled with a profound regret at all the entertaining hours I missed.

      • Sopel the catfish

THAT MUSTACHE even my niece commented unsolicited; “that guy has a big mustache” gotta love 6 year olds

  • HawkIPA

That’s why you can’t let this team hang around

  • Brandon Murray

First Finnish Baby Jesus then Frenchie!! Whose next, let’s get another.

  • rhodes

Weeelllp. No more Ben Bishop shutout.

  • Aaeismacgychel

Okay guys, keep pushing, but 1 man safe

  • DJ

TT with the assist on Vermette’s goal

  • Aaeismacgychel

    What a strip by Teuvo

  • GoldenJet

    Beauty!

  • Sopel the catfish

Icing on the teuvo cake is hedman getting knocked down for the goal

  • TitanTransistor

Sharp with the crosscheck on Hedman, not unlike that Ducks player on Rundblad in game one of the Anaheim series

  • Jim

Tampa is doing a lot of holding the Hawk’s sticks. I’ll take it over the Duck’s crushing everybody.

  • DJ

    Where’s the penalty??

  • DJ

    Empty net

  • TitanTransistor

    Please score Blackhawks.

  • DJ

    :37 left. TB offside

  • Nittacci

    No TB timeouts

  • DJ

No time outs left for TB; they could use one.

  • Jim

like to see an empty netter here

  • Nittacci

    Oh yeah.

  • DJ

    that’s one!

  • HawkIPA

You come at the king, you best not miss. What a finish

  • Aaeismacgychel

THERE WE GO! STEALING GAME 1!

  • Jim

How the fuck did the Hawks win that game?????????????

    • rhodes

Held on in the 1st. Played pretty even in the 2nd. Killed them in the 3rd.

      • Jim

Wow. Teuvo was instrumental in both goals.

    • DJ

The sustained pressure that led to the icing. Forced them to call time out. Then we kept up the pressure, and they fucked up the line change. Traffic in front led to the first goal, and that knocked them for a loop.

      • Jim

This is the Cup Final. Huge.

        • DJ

It’s one game in the Final. Yeah, we got home ice right off the bat, but these guys are talented enough to get it back. Series is far from over

  • rhodes

    Fucking great 3rd period.

  • Sopel the catfish

    Hawks win! Hawks win!

  • DJ

TB had not lost when scoring first, or leading after one, or two. Until tonight

  • GoldenJet

    Bam!

  • Peanut Butter

    Chasing 3

  • Nittacci

That’ll give Tampa Bay something to think about for a few days.

  • Peanut Butter

    #1 has to be Teuvo!

    • Sopel the catfish

      With crow as 1b

  • To Saad be the glory

That was the “gift” game and Tampa blew it.

  • D_Smith

Great win. My blood pressure also appreciates no OT tonight. Keep the pedal to the metal and foot on the throat Saturday though.

  • Just another day at the office.

  • HossasPierogi

Verbeauty brought some important energy down the stretch

  • The_Cheeb

Tampa took their foot off the gas, crawled into the back seat, and wound up confused and pregnant……

    • Nittacci

Don’t bring Patrick Sharp into this.

      • The_Cheeb

I might as well, he didn’t exactly light up the ice tonight……

  • Aaeismacgychel

Tampa flat out lost this game by playing not to lose. They let the Hawks have the entire 3rd period in their zone. You cannot do that to this team. Rookie mistake on the big stage.

    • DJ

Well said. You could see the talent and speed in the first half of the game. And the inexperience in the third.

    • GoldenJet

      “They let the Hawks”?

Every team the Hawks beat thinks they had a choice in the matter.

      • Aaeismacgychel

I typically wouldn’t say that the other team lost the game, but Tampa packed it in, tried not making the big mistake, and as such made the bigger mistake of letting the Hawks set up camp in their zone.

        • DJ

This isn’t the offensively-challenged (and injury-riddled) New York Rangers. This is a team that is currently running four threatening lines. It doesn’t always take one hammer-blow to crack the wall; consistent taps do the job just as effectively.

        • Peanut Butter

Well the Hawks battled back at the dot and that was a huge part of why they were able to fight back, increase their time of possession and ultimately come back. I would also give them a bit more credit.

          • Aaeismacgychel

Oh for sure. The Hawks completely took advantage of them. I’m not saying they didn’t. But Tampa certainly went into a shell and that was a huge mistake for them because they opened the door and as the Hawks are wont to do, they busted through it. You simply can’t play the way Tampa did in the 3rd and expect to beat the Hawks. It was a big comeback for the Hawks and a big tactical error for Tampa. It was both.

        • GoldenJet

The level of play the Lightning began the game with was unsustainable.

They were pretty happy with their overall game plan too, so we may see something similar in game 2.

If they get a couple of better bounces, they could win a game or two.

I don’t see anything they do working for a series win. If they keep pushing forward, look for the Hawks to capitalize with some stretch passes and breakaways…If the Lightning pack it in, look for the Hawks to bide their time and strike when opportunity arises…

I don’t see this going as far as a game 7…could be Hawks in 6, 5 or even 4.

    • ZigZags82

Like they had a choice. I love this choice of words “let” Lmao. The Hawks came out like barnstormers in the 3rd. After the 1st period where Tampa led in scoring chances obviously, Hawks led 19-7 the rest of the way.

The Hawks TOOK this game, Period.

  • Marian Brossa

Good thing Tampa Bay gets two days to remember that their best wasn’t good enough.

    • DJ

More like “we have to play a full 60 minutes.” Sitting back for 35+ minutes? Not wise against the men in the Indian Head.

  • The_Cheeb

TB showed consistent weakness throughout this game when exiting their own end. Even in p1. That bears watching…….

    • DJ

Was it their top D pair? If so, that does bear watching.

      • Sopel the catfish

Hedman was on the ice for the second goal, not sit about the first

        • bmarlowe

Hedman and Stralman (and 2/3 of the triplets)

  • HossasPierogi

My stars: Crow 1 Teuvo 2 Vermette 3

    • TitanTransistor

      Yes.

Seriously, who could argue with this order?

      • WookRN

Me. Titan gets second star for cheering up!

        • Oldfarthawkfan

I think Seabrook as #3 star. He was a horse out there tonight

  • Sopel the catfish

Hawks had no pp goals and still won

    • Red Grange

They barely had any shots on goal during the PP.

    • Dangles-a-Plenty

Sopey, we need to find us something to rage about.

      • Sopel the catfish

KANE AND TOEWS DIDN’T GET ANY GODDAM GOALS, IF THEY WON’T SHOW UP HAWKS HAVE NO CHANCE AGAINST THE TRIPLETS LINE, VERSTEEG NO POINTS EITHER WHY BENCH ALL THE BICKELL GRIT GOD DAMMIT Q

        • Dangles-a-Plenty

          That’s more fucking like it

  • CurvedBlade

This game was the very definition of stealing one. I’ll take it. Crush their spirit on saturday.

    • Jim

They just said on television that the winner of Game 1 in the SCF wins the series 77% of the time.

  • Aaeismacgychel

By the way, the 4 players scratched were the Hawks best players tonight: Crow, Teuvo, Versteeg, and Vermette. If Q scratched them knowing this would be the result in Game 1 of the Finals, he was a supergenius

    • Peanut Butter

More likely broken clock syndrome…right twice a day just because.

  • The_Cheeb

btw, forget my dumb comment about the Hawks’ shooting style,
their two goals were almost perfect corner shots.

    • bmarlowe

Actually Vermette’s goal was deflected by Brown, but we’ll take it.

  • The_Cheeb

TB top D line almost the same TOI as Keith/Seabrook.

    • Jim

If they don’t keep Hedman in there big minutes, they are in trouble.

  • Jim

Tampa Bay just found out the Hawks are closers and dream killers. And the Hawks did not play their best game for about 45 minutes of this one. PLUS the Hawks are now more aware of the TB tendencies, and will adjust on the next game. I’ve been watching the Hawks for many years now, and I’m still impressed with the way they closed this one out. What a team.

    • CurvedBlade

Yeah, the hawks are dream killers. Everyone walks away feeling like they had a good game and could have won. But they didn’t.

    • cza

Sharpen up the steak knives, Tampa!

  • Oldfarthawkfan

Seabrook was awesome tonight. Better than Hedman in my mind. You can feel the love the team has for Crow during post game interviews.

    • The_Cheeb

Agreed, and Keith did not have Keith-greatness tonight.

  • DJ

Triplets only had two shots tonight. Johnson and Kucherov both minus-one.

    • The_Cheeb

Kucherov seemed to hurt his hand, anyone hear anything more on that?

  • Bob Lanz

3 three. Stole game 1 stole home ice. CRAWFORD WAS CRAWFORD. bishop obviously beatable I like our team 🙂

Third line 3rd goal from Vermy and Teuvo threes are wild! Sharp anytime you want to join the party… Shooter

  • T.M.

Now the press is reporting Shaw bit Hedman. Dick Butkus would be proud.

    • Bob Lanz

Next game he can spit on him too

  • chitownproud85

Pretty much what we were all dreaming of when Teuvo became a Blackhawk(or a part of the organization anyway), no? Already playing a part in Stanley Cup Finals victories. Why yes, acceptable sir!

  • Bob Lanz

I’m one happy little HAWK fan tonight!

    • rhodes

      3rd line, baby!

  • DJ

Hawks 10-1 in the playoffs when being outshot

    • CurvedBlade

Impossible. Everyone knows corsi is the only thing that matters.

      • Bob Lanz

The only numbers that matters is 2-1 and 3

      • DJ

Helpful and informative, not dispositive. There is a difference.

  • DJ

    TT good with the clichés,

    • Bob Lanz

      He watched bull durham

      • Aaeismacgychel

He totally was breathing through his eyelids and had the rose in front in that 3rd period.

  • seabsrat

I hope Versteeg comes back with that kind of play in game 2. He was a man possessed out there tonight. He won battles and created chances, and I don’t recall him turning the puck over at either blue line?

    Verbeautiful.

  • rhodes

Has TT been growing that mustache for 2 months?

    • cza

I think he started on it in 8th grade.

  • Dangles-a-Plenty

I can’t say I was worried this entire game. The first ten minutes were typical Hawks coming out with no fire under their asses. And then they just took the fuck over. Felt like they were just toying with Tampa especially since Tampa was like “no, it’s okay, we’re gonna nurse this 1 goal lead, we’ll be fine. Thanks”. Great start grabbing game 1!

  • jordyhawk

    Joual.

  • rhodes

Versteeg playing every shift like it’s his last, because….

    https://twitter.com/TramyersCSN/status/606296882298667008

  • ZigZags82

Vermette, and Teuvo you effin’ beauties! Crow gets all the love too of course! Hawks settled things down with the Toews line and Kane line (often) being buried in possession. Uhhh, that’s not likely to continue. The 3rd and 4th lines won the game as has often been the story. That’s just plain scary. Get another kill shot Saturday night!

    Let’s Go Hawks!

  • Sopel the catfish

Red Saad jersey is 1-0, Seabrook’s 7’s are 3-0, most likely not going to remain undefeated but I like our odds

    • Dangles-a-Plenty

So red saad+ Seabrook’s 7’s is about the same as 20-19-88. I like your hockey juju
