• fat_tony_amonte

Annnnd Stastny to the Blues for 4 years. Fuck.

    • Andrew Heitman

Dont worry- they are still the Blues who think Oshie is on par with Kane in terms of pure goal scoring….

      • SuperHawk27

        ^^ Not worried, but unhappy….

        • Andrew Heitman

Understandable- I think Stastny is a great player. Would have been a stud between Saad and Kane….

          • Yachtsman

We can all dream, can’t we? Still Richards is a decent bridge center until one of the prospects develop. And he’s not automatically the 2C.

    • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Maybe they can put him in goal.

  • jordyhawk

Wow. Some pretty sketchy deals if you ask me. Bolland at 27.5 million for 5 years is as nuts as it gets. Howling at Canucks for locking up Miller as well. Blues, Wild, Stars have all added scoring so it gets tougher for us but that’s to be expected.

Given we’re tight to the cap, it’s a good day to lay low. If we are going to do anything it’s better off to go the trade route and we can do that another day. No problem with the Regin re-up (like to see him get some more time with Bickell and Morin; they were great together).

    • Andrew Heitman

I agree with re: Bickell and Morin…but thats 3C….

Who slots into Bolligs “role” on the 4th line?

Are they just going to piecemeal the 2C spot again? Smith, Shaw, Regin, Kruger are all going to get a shot until people get comfortable with Terven Tarnanarevieninananan?

      • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

I’d be willing to give Smith a shot.

        • Andrew Heitman

And maybe thats the thinking- there already exists the 2C in the center…

          • Andrew Heitman

            not center- system.

      • Dann McKeegan

        Sharp – Toews – Hossa
        Saad – Shaw – Kane
        Bickell – Kruger – Smith
        Morin – Regin – Versteeg
        –Mashinter

There’s the 13 forwards who fit under the cap. Only possible move left is wait for Niskanen to sign somewhere to drive up Oduya/Leddy trade value to clear cap space for B Richards/O Jokinen/Legwand.

As currently the constructed, the Hawks are ~$250,000 too close to the cap to call up Teravainen.

        • Andrew Heitman

Richards deal might be the end of any major hawks activity in FA.

          • Dann McKeegan

They still have to dump ~$2m to get under the cap. Oduya remains the most likely at $3.375, since they then would need to add Johns ($800,000) or Dahlbeck (<$650,000) as 7D. This keeps Teuvo in Rockford, and assumes Mashinter as the 13F. Shaw and Smith on Kruger's wings offer effective depth at C now, too.

    • birdhead

      Good summary.

    • Sparky_The_Bard-barian

Only way we land that proven 2C is to trade Sharp or Seabs. So lying low is not a disaster.

  • Oregon_hawk

I don’t believe that Regin will be enough. Teams in the west are improving, and the Hawks were not dominant this past year.

There’s no need for huge changes, but we do need to improve.

    • Hockey

      86

      12

      Meh..

      • Oregon_hawk

        very meh.

First, 86 is totally and completely unproven. He may just not be ready this season.

        12 isn’t trusted by Q. I mean, he just isn’t.

Krugs is fine, but isn’t a #2 solution. Neither are shaw or kane.

The hawks got to the WCF. They didn’t look great doing it. And they didn’t win the stats battles either. They got through on being clutch veteran motherfuckers.

I don’t think standing pat is a good idea, at all.

    • HawkIPA

Eh, the Hawks are already better than last year having jettisoned Bollig and Zus. Slotting TT between Hossa and Sharp/Saad could work pretty well. Saad, Morin, Regin, and Smith are all on the upswing. I don’t think any huge moves are needed. They’ll probably trade Oduya once the market shakes out and add a piece. The central will be tough, but I’m not too worried. Hawks are coming back rested, with a stronger team. The others are still chasing.

      • http://www.nosqldatabases.com Derek Stainer

I’m getting less and less convinced that Oduya is the one that goes. I’m still thinking that Rozi gets moved (yes I know he has a NTC)

        • raditzzzz

good bargaining rozy! didnt know that was a thing for #6 d-men.

        • birdhead

With everyone talking about Rundblad I’m starting to get nervous about Leddy. I really like him and hope it doesn’t happen but :-/

    • birdhead

the thing is with the capspace the way it is I don’t think the Hawks *can* ,make small changes. If they want to make *any* changes they need to free up a good bit of space.

  • Jon

Still want to trade a defenseman.

  • derlemke

Yeah the Central just got tougher, but we’re still the best. Dallas is gonna be fun to watch.

  • hockeystickstuff

Pretty sure Bowman does know that 2nd line center is even a thing.

    • Hockey

Has repeatedly stated that Hawks don’t think of “numbered lines” in a typical way.

      • raditzzzz

lets put it in terms bowman can understand, then. how do you think about non toews kruger center depth, stan?

        • hockeystickstuff

Foot in mouth. Boland is 5.5 for 5 and Richards is 2 M for 1. I’m an idiot.

  • QCBlackhawk

Oh dang, thought Disqus finally got nixed thanks to he of many bans/faces. No such luck.

    • YoAdrienne

I thought it was just me having issues.

      • The Nutbrown Hare

Me, too…thought I’d been banned for quoting Walter Sobchak.

  • SuperHawk27

Iggy to the Avs for 3 year – 16 mil….boo!!!

  • http://www.thecommittedindian.com/ Matt McClure

    https://twitter.com/TramyersCSN/status/484056156969525248

Rockford depth. Move along, nothing to see here.

    • Andrew Heitman

      Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • The Nutbrown Hare

Five years/$27.5 million for Bolland? Maybe Uncle Dale just needed a reason to help FLA fans find a use for all those left-over latex vermin.

  • Rough Neck n Thug

Every team in the west got better except for the Hawks.

    • Andrew Heitman

Every team in the west had to get better to chase the Hawks.

    • birdhead

Kings didn’t do much, lost a good defenseman. Preds I don’t remember doing much. Winnipeg hasn’t improved. Avs traded a good younger player for a very old one (who scored 30 last year, admittedly) and won’t repeat their goaltending season anyway.

Blues adding Stastny is scary. Dallas adding Spezza and Hemsky … we’ll see I guess. Wild adding Vanek is scary.

Some stuff happened. The Hawks are still pretty great. Let’s not freak out yet.

      • pepe_silvia

Dallas’ defense is still pretty pedestrian. Blues will stay the Blues. We all knew that our cap situation was not good, so I’m not sure why people are freaking out that we didn’t go on a spending spree.

      • Feathers in the Hat

Dallas adding Spezza and Hemsky is way scarier than Vanek. We will have to see how it pans out but this puts DAL ahead of MIN now

        • birdhead

idk man, Minnesota still has a defense. And more veterans, but maybe that’s not a good thing, I just think Minnesota is better-constructed than Dallas. Still, they’ve both improved a LOT over the last couple of years.

          • Andrew Heitman

            MN also has better coaching…

    • SuperHawk27

But each team still has more question marks than the Hawks in my opinion. If TT pans out as advertised, there is no question where the hawks project to be in June….

    • Hags

not every team. One could make an argument that Calgary is light years worse.

    • http://www.thecommittedindian.com/ Matt McClure

Still unimpressed with Dallas and Anaheim’s blue lines, particularly Anaheim, who got slower and dumber and more expensive with Clayton Stoner.

Not to mention that Anaheim and St. Louis’ goaltending situations are far from stable, and Kari Lehtonen WILL get hurt. And the Blues are already talking about putting Backes on a line with Stastny, thus eroding any center depth advantage.

It’s frustrating to watch them stand still, and other teams did get better, but still no one is as complete as the Hawks or Kings.

      • QCBlackhawk

I’m sure some other big dumb boulder will replace him, but I’m glad Bollig is gone, at the very least.

The meatball is dead, long live the meatball.

  • SuperHawk27

Wild got Vanek for three years….gross

  • guesthouse

Brooks Orpik. 5 yrs, 5.5 mil per year. What planet is this?

    • SuperHawk27

Free agents….you have to overpay to get them….

    • Hags

a planet where Deryk Engelland now makes 3 yrs/2.9 Million a year

    • birdhead

A planet where I’m glad Stan hasn’t got any room to play with.

  • SuperHawk27

    When reading all these awesome signings by other teams just remember we’ll be reading this in the next couple of days…..Hopefully;

Hawks sign two of the best young players Toews and Kane to 10+ mil for 7-8 years, locking them up until they are in their early 30′s. Both Toews and Kane have helped bring two Stanely cups in five years to Chicago and are planning to add more….

  • Hockey

Dreger reporting B Richards -> Chicago. Can he skate?

    • Oregon_hawk

yes, please. ( i don’t know if he can skate)

    • birdhead

      He’s slow.

      • Peter Turner

        And a Packer fan.

      • HawkIPA

        Not slower than Zus.

  • Annette Frontpresence

    B. Richards, 1 year $2 mil

  • http://www.thecommittedindian.com/ Matt McClure

Bowman gets two centers for $2.65 million while pressed up against the cap. Take it.

  • Oregon_hawk

Richards actually has some fairly abysmal playoff numbers. -10% corsi rel 12/13, and -4% corsi rel 13/14. Maybe someone who watched those games can give some context.

  • QCBlackhawk

So who is getting dumped, because we were already over before this?

    • Oregon_hawk

I bet oduya for 15/16 picks.

    • Leo W

      27, 7, or hopefully 10.
can’t imagine the cap is going to raise that much more in ’15 for 19/88 to not have to shed some important parts.
also, i want 10′s agent to eat crow. just ’cause.

      • birdhead

        “hopefully 10″????? jesus

        • QCBlackhawk

Yeah, not going to go with “hopefully”, but based off of Toews’ comments before, if the guy refuses to play center then I’m not going to be upset when he gets replaced by one during a cap crunch.

          • birdhead

I don’t think there *is* any evidence he refuses to play center and, if he does, why doesn’t Q just play him there anyway? Q doesn’t care what anyone else wants, why care what Sharp wants?

          • QCBlackhawk

Dunno, and I admittedly may be reading into what Toews was saying to fit it to my view of things, but if the guy did well in 2010 why would we possibly try almost everyone else, and then make up excuses about injuries as to why he wasn’t doing it again when we needed?

      • birdhead

“hopefully we traded our leading scorer to make room for a slow guy making $2m who just got bumped to the fourth line in the SCF”

        • Oldfarthawkfan

As our leading scorer got bumped to the third line in the conference finals

      • PE-TER RE-GIN

        Seabs isn’t going anywhere.

        • QCBlackhawk

Does Seabs have a no movement? Sharp does.

          • PE-TER RE-GIN

Replied to myself :p But what I said is supposed to be a RE to what you asked, QC.

          • PE-TER RE-GIN

Seabs had a limited NTC kick in 2012-13 (CapGeek)

          • QCBlackhawk

            Gotcha :)

          • PE-TER RE-GIN

I made a real mess out of replying to that question. I’m probably the reason Discus isn’t working today…

          • QCBlackhawk

Disqus is the reason that Disqus never works.

        • PE-TER RE-GIN

CapGeek says Seabs had a limited one kick in 2012-13.

  • birdhead

I think it’s pretty cheap for Brad Richards and maybe Q can get the right things out of them but I can’t help thinking it’s another slow centre for Kane and someone’s getting traded to make room.

  • JimBag

    Richards in the fold

  • PE-TER RE-GIN

We’re $2.2M over cap at the moment. Versteeg is set to make $2.2M this season (both of those figures according to CapGeek).

    Trade Kane.

(But it’ll probably be Oduya for picks, as others have said today and before)

    • QCBlackhawk

It would be pretty sweet if it was Steeg and we slid in like a glove against the cap

    • Oregon_hawk

Versteeg also doesn’t have a NTC/NMC. Oduya does (according to capgeek).

Given that, and his incredible un-usefulness in general, I revise what i said before and i’ll go with Steeg for picks.

    • birdhead

They’ll want to clear more space than just the bare minimum, because they’re a 23-player roster atm, they’ll want to stick there I imagine.
