The Glass is Half Full / Half Empty: Chicago Blackhawks 2013 Top Ten List
Here we stand at the halfway point of a marvelous season, but we wouldn’t be Chicago sports fans if we were ever comfortable with a lead, ever able to enjoy a silver lining without looking for the dark cloud that lurks beneath. Years, decades, and in some cases centuries of frustration have taught us that the glass is never completely full, so with tongue planted firmly in cheek, here goes….
10. Q has shown his genius by putting the Swedish line together / and by putting Carcillo on the top line and Bollig on any line.
9. We’ve avoided any serious injuries / oh, wait…
8. We keep finding ways to win in the final minute against teams like Detroit / and against teams like Calgary and Colorado.
7. Thirteen different players have a Game Winning Goal / so we’re having to rely on guys like Dan Carcillo to score game winners, now?
6. Six words: Nick Leddy on the left side, a move that has reaped huge benefits / and three more words: Winger Sheldon Brookbank.
5. The only teams remotely close to us in the Western Conference standings are Anaheim and Vancouver / who beat us in a shootout.
4. We have a great record in one goal games / and far too many one goal games for a team unbeaten in regulation in 24 games.
3. We’re off to the best start in NHL history / and as any Cubs fan will tell you, it’s all about how you start.
2. This team still hasn’t played its best hockey / This team STILL hasn’t played its best hockey.
1. The Hawks are in great shape to take the President’s Cup / and for seven of its last eight winners, the President’s Cup has been a great consolation prize.
