• Bob Lanz

It’s your site we are all just living in it baby! Let’s Go Hawks

  • rhodes

Can anybody explain what Boston’s strategy might be? To piss off their fans?

If that’s it, they nailed it.

    • The_Cheeb

Here’s my take on the Hamilton deal: If they really thought he would get a RFA offer they could not match, then they did what they had to do. I know they are Cap-screwed, not sure exactly how bad. So let’s say they couldn’t fit Hamilton in the Cap at a 4.5 million RFA offer, which would bring them a first and third round pick in 2016. They traded him instead, for a 1st, 2nd, and 2nd THIS year. Not a bad trade off. The real reason Boston is in trouble came before today. Today the bill came due for several years of Cap stupidity, over-paying, bad deals, etc.

      • Bob Lanz

I agree. They got best value for a cap strapped team, shit we didn’t even get close to that for Leddy. And in my opinion Leddy is better

        • The_Cheeb

Well, there might be some return for Leddy, too early to know for sure. And Boston could draft nothing with those picks. But we shall see.

        • Jimnhlnut

Bruins eating half of Milan’s salary….

      • lizmcneill

So trade Lucic, maybe to a less cap-strapped team, and don’t re-sign a bottom-pairing dman to 2.75M for four years. Problem solved.

        • The_Cheeb

The 2.75m signing seems like the worst one for sure. It’s hard to simply demand that they trade Lucic to someone else. Maybe someone would take the entire cap hit, but give a lot less in return. Lucic is UFA after this year, and his numbers are down.

  • rhodes

Did I hear that right? Islanders trade an AHL prospect for the 16th and 33th pick in the draft? I got that wrong….

  • The_Cheeb

OH MY GOD !!!!! The hawks lost last night! They suck, Q sucks, the season is over! WHOA….., sorry, wrong rant. (ahem, cough cough)
OH MY GOD !!!! They didn’t trade Sharp or Bickell or Versteeg yet ! They’re over THE CAP! They’re gonna lose Crawford or Saad or Kane!
WTF Bowman SUCKS!!!! DO SOMETHING RIGHT NOW!!!

Well, that feels better…….now I belong on a live TCI thread.

  • GoldenJet

    Lucic to the Kings?! Fuck.

  • The_Cheeb

NHL draft night turning into a dull fest just like the NBA draft…..

  • Bobby Otter

So Sharp’s not getting traded unless it’s to Montreal?

    • Bob Lanz

      Habs

    • The_Cheeb

Still sounds like multiple teams are interested, though Dallas seems to have dropped out. I just hope they don’t wait until October again. They may have gotten some good return for Leddy (maybe) but my old nerves can’t take the waiting.

      • Bob Lanz

All they got for Leddy was a prospect Villa Polka who may or may not be ready next year to compete for a roster spot

        • The_Cheeb

Yeah, could be a dead end, time will tell.

  • Bobby Otter

Sharp to Toronto would be AMAZING

    • Bobby Otter

Okay looks like it’s the Flyers and Leafs who made the deal, but that was a fun 30 seconds.

      • The_Cheeb

        what deal?

        • Bobby Otter

          24 for 29 and 60something

          • The_Cheeb

Woo hoo, biggest move of the evening! Excitement!

  • HarryBalzonya

If something happens here in the first it will probably be at 26 with the Habs.

  • Bob Lanz

Well do you think Stan moves up from 54 to a 30 something pick tomorrow ?

  • Bob Lanz

Are you fucking kidding me! Only the NHL is treated this way cutting away before the draft ends for fucking track and field

  • Lemmy

Underwhelmed! I guess Stan could trade Sharp for a 2016 1st rounder instead, but tick tock tick tock. Once teams fill up on free agents, we’re talking about dealing Seabrook, Hammer, or Saad’s rights instead of Sharp, Bickell, and Versteeg.

    • Bob Lanz

I’m perfectly fine with a 2016 first rounder if we can get it, I still look at the list of free agents and other guys on the trade block and other than Kessel Sharp is got to be the most valuable asset.

      • Lemmy

Not as valuable as an AHL defenseman from NYI, apparently…

      • The_Cheeb

Maybe Kessel / Sharp are the best current hockey players out there….but they are not necessarily the biggest trade assets. Kessel has 8! more years at an 8 mil cap hit. That can lower his trade value and cut down the teams that want him. Current rumor says only Penguins have any interest, and Leafs don’t NEED to trade him. Sharp not quite as bad, 5.9mil x 2 years. BUT….the entire hockey world knows the Hawks need to lose his cap hit. That lowers his value. We shall see, you can certainly worry that Stan won’t get top value for 10-29-23, but to suggest they are still here and guys like 4-7-20 are gone, like the OP, that’s just plain silly.

    • The_Cheeb

LOL, you got the best name on this board, but see my earlier post on this thread to get an idea of what I think of your attitude……..

      • Lemmy

Not so much an “attitude” as an observation. Prime trading season is almost officially over. It’s UFA time and Saad offer sheets on July 1. No getting around it: Stan has dropped the ball, like Tallon and his qualifying offer fiasco.

        • The_Cheeb

I guess they should start shopping 2, 4, and 20 then.
Hard to respect your observations when they include ridiculous dooms day player dumps after round 1.

          • Lemmy

Don’t need your respect Cheeb. I do need Stan to do something more than deal our AHL goalie. Trade season is over. UFA season is beginning. Let’s hope you are the one having the last laugh, Cheeb. I see a crap show of missed opportunity.

          • The_Cheeb

But can you produce any *proof* of missed opportunity?

          • Lemmy

Yes– I offer you as proof the Sabres, Stars, Oilers, and Canes all picking up goaltenders. The Sabres and Oil were prime destinations for Crawford’s contract.

I also offer you the fact that no salary was cleared on draft weekend — the prime time for clearing salaries. If Stan wants to hold out to see if anyone can take on a 5.9 million contract in Sharp after free agency, great — let’s hope someone has room. But that still doesn’t explain why Versteeg or Bickell wasn’t moved for late rounders.

And Raanta? He could have been added to a bad contract to get someone to take BB or KV. Not given away for an unimpressive kid who will be lucky if he makes the Hogs ever in his career.

          • The_Cheeb

God that’s thick headed bullcrap. You assume they want to trade Crawford (no proof), and refer to other goalie trades as fact that they missed out on trading Crawford, when there’s not even a rumor that they want to trade him. (great pretzel logic there) You again offer NO PROOF that Stan turned down a trade to a team that Sharp was willing to go to. Then you declare (again no proof whatsoever) that Raanta could have been added to a trade to deal 23 or 29. Every comment you just made assumes that ideas in your head are established fact. No proof, no sources. So stick to that OP that 4, 7, and 20 could be on their way out because Stan couldn’t pull off trades that you invented.

          • bennicksic

If the reports are true that stan isn’t considering trading Corey Crawford, that alone should be enough to make fans mad. Losing Crawford doesn’t hurt the team nearly as much as losing multiple forwards. The fact that so many goalies are out there is enough evidence to prove that point. In addition, the fact that mediocre goalies have had great success here proved that too. Raanta/Emery/darling all prove that.

We are for sure losing vermette and oduya. Going with 4-6 new defense/forwards is much more risky than going cheaper on goalie and taking whatever for bickell/versteeg…the only assumption I’m making in any of this is that someone would take those two. A buyout of bickell would be necessary then.

  • jordyhawk

Stan drafting guys that weigh over 170 this year. Must be a heavy year for us.

  • The_Cheeb

Am I the only one who figures that maybe, just maybe, 10, 29 and 23 are rather tough to get rid of? Sure Stan “turned down” a 2nd, a 2nd, and a D prospect for Sharp. But Sharp has a No Move contract, and it’s possible that Stan cannot trade him to Dallas. The entire hockey world knows he’s getting moved, and can veto any destination if he feels like it. Bickell is a 4 mil cap hit, and sucked last year, unless you care about his physical presence on a team that doesn’t value hitting. Versteeg? whatever. He’s a fill in guy from most other teams’ perspective. We shall see……..

    • TitanTransistor

All of them are worth at least nothing. So if he has to move them for nothing, so be it. The cap space is more important at this point than tangible return. But he still has all summer to try and get anything for them.

      • The_Cheeb

Exactly. The Leddy trade is Stan’s hairiest example of stalling.
(geez) Only time will tell if Pokka is worth the wait.

        • lizmcneill

Pokka is a great return when you look at what the Bruins got for Dougie Hamilton, who’s younger and better than Leddy.

  • GoldenJet

    Raanta? We hardly knew ya…

    • Lionel Hutz

He always made me nervous if we’re being honest.

      • jordyhawk

I loved his athleticism, but he was often too deep and gave up rebounds. He looked small too. I don’t think he could have done what Darling did against the Preds, so I’ll hang my hat on that. Good luck to him in NY.

  • The_Cheeb

Dang, ‘Yotes made a good move. They only have to pay Pronger 575,000 next two years…..but he takes 4.94m cap space. Helps them reach cap floor for cheap. More evidence of why guys like Bickell are tough to move, even to cap floor teams.

    • jordyhawk

I hope Vermette resigns with them. Call it the wheel of hockey life.

      • The_Cheeb

A nice story, but isn’t Arizona hockey death right now? :^)

  • jordyhawk

    Some comments:

    – I don’t like Ducks getting Hagelin.
    – Milan Lucic is a cement head. Great pickup if it were 1974.
    – Canucks ink Luongo> fire GMMG> hire Benning> ink Miller to return to goalie cap hell> gift Lack to Canes. Priceless.

    • The_Cheeb

Hagelin is FAST. 35pt is best yr, can he improve? makes me nervous
Lucic will be playing for his next contract. makes me nervous.
      Vancouver pain is delicious.

    • RMM

They saw clearly what the Ducks did to the Hawks in the semis. They are prepairing to try to dethrone our champs. Good luck on that .

  • Jimnhlnut

Eso will we make it under the cap if we sign Saad, let Krueger go, and fill roster with ELC’s?

Also, can someone who knows tell us if Sharp, Versteeg, bicks have NTClauses?

    • The_Cheeb

Go to generalfanager.com or capfriendly.com (great resources)
Taking a quick look– as is, Hawks have 13 under contract, and 8.1 mil space. If Saad gets a 4.5m cap hit, that’s 3.6 mil left, not possible.
(and there’s no way Q runs a team with that many kids)
There’s also some debate over how much cap hit Panarin will take.

Sharp is No Movement, Bickell is No Trade. Don’t know if anyone has more specific info. Sharp has more leverage with the NMC. Versteeg is shown as a standard contract. Players usually say they have “no problem” with being traded, but my suspicion is that NMC guys like Sharp quietly communicate a list of teams they
      will allow a trade to.

      • lizmcneill

I don’t think that’s correct about Sharp’s NMC – he may have had one at some point in his contract, but the beats have reported that he can name 10 teams he can be traded too, so it’s a limited no trade.
Bickell has an 8-team veto list, apparently.

        • The_Cheeb

Thanks for the info. I wonder if Dallas is on the Sharp list.

  • The_Cheeb

Oh, joyous day! Here is the L.A. cap hit for buying out Mike Richards:
    (per generalfanager.com)
    2015-16: $1,216,666
    2016-17: $1,716,666
    2017-18: $2,716,666
    2018-19: $4,216,666
    2019-20: $4,216,666
    2020-25: $1,466,666

  • The_Cheeb

Am I a bad Hawk’s fan if I root against Graham Knott simply so I don’t have to hear his NHL nickname “Knottsy” ?
Worst public relations nickname since “Car Bomb”.
