NHL: San Jose Sharks at Chicago Blackhawks

Cleaned And Gutted: Sharks 1 – Hawks 4

You know how I get. It’s not the blowouts or the last second wins that get me excited about the long term prospects of this team. Though I do enjoy the exhilaration of those, or the immediate release of jubilation, it’s the games where you exhibit a superiority that portend to what you might do in the future. At least in my eyes it is.

Tonight was one of those nights. Though the Sharks are probably no longer a conference power, they are not a conference also-ran either. And the Hawks simply outclassed them tonight. Out. Classed. It’s a term we haven’t been able to use very much the past two seasons, if at all. But outclassing means that at no point did you think San Jose could get the best of the Hawks with everything being equal. Every time the Hawks threw out a line or unit, it was better than what they faced. And tonight, it was.

Sure, this Sharks team is in a tailspin, but they never looked a threat. And the Hawks coasted. Let’s see why.

Bullets

-I can’t believe that we have discussed stuff like this so often recently, but here we are again. Let’s get to Toews’s “fight.” I know there’s been an intense debate on Twitter (partly egged on by my brother who was simply seeking to egg it on to make himself giggle. He’s a Fels, after all). In no way is it acceptable to have your best all around player off the ice for nine minutes. In no way is it acceptable to have your best player fresh off a season marred by concussion problems presenting himself for punches to the face. It’s just not.

But I’m the one who spent a considerable amount of space in tonight’s Indian (and previous ones) documenting the amount of bullshit that Thornton has pulled on Tazer in response to getting eaten alive by him while playing hockey. Passenger #19 has simply had it fed to him by Captain Marvel for a while now. And each time, he’s responded by niggling, cheap punches to the dome of Toews.

Jamal Mayers cannot go out and fight Thornton. Jumbo Waif wouldn’t do it. Neither can Bollig. Or Seabrook. Or even Shaw. Not even Bickell. And Toews isn’t the type to just sit idly by and let someone else take up his cause.

It doesn’t make it right. It doesn’t make it not stupid. But somewhere, deep down, I understand. I guess. I don’t like it. I wish he hadn’t. But I get it.

Did it inspire the team? They say so, but I doubt it. This Sharks team was a hanging curveball. Wasn’t that hard to put it over the fence.

-Let’s talk about the actual sport. Marcus Kruger was deservedly the #1 star tonight and not just for his goal and assist. He was the most active Hawk in both ends, and his quick hands make up for a lot of what his lack of size can’t do. I’ve seen some call for him to be promoted to back where he was on Line #2, but he’s perfectly slotted right now. He can dominate on the 4th line, and his game of defensive responsibility and forechecking energy is perfectly suited for 4th line duty. No reason to fuck with what is working so well right now.

- There was a moment in the 1st when Bolland was thrown out of a defensive zone draw, and Sharp came in and won it. LEARN.

-The power play had some issues, but then it did everything it needed to to get the goal. There was movement, there was traffic, a puck got to the net and the Hawks won the battle to pot the rebound. More study needed.

-The biggest insult to Thornton tonight was that Quenneville didn’t care a jot about getting a matchup against him. He just rolled out whatever line came up, not fearing Thornton creating off of it. And he didn’t.

-Some Sharks fans thought Brad Stuart would be a savior. Dave Bolland dragged him and then got his own rebound when Stuart didn’t bother to get up off the ice. There you go.

-Patrick Marleau had one shot.

-Here’s my tweet from the 3rd. I think it holds true: I bet Marty looks over at hawks centers, then looks at Burish, and then considers how he’ll dispose of the body.

-Ray Emery left enough rebounds flopping like landed fish tonight, but the Hawks defense was really concentrated on clearing them. They’ll have to be if he has to take extended starts.

-The Hawks started the 3rd with a two-goal lead in the same fashion that has not pleased us earlier in the season. It was a 1-2-2 meant to choke the game out. But they pressed off of that as the period went on — aided by San Jose incompetence — and got the killer goal. LEARN.

This all works for me. Time to collapse now.

  • Skags

Great effort tonight. Serious question : is Hammer the Hawks best defenseman right now?

    • Chesterfield King

Serious answer: As far as I can tell, yes. He’s playing fantastic on both ends, but more importantly, he’s playing consistently well. Leddy has had some games where he’s turned on the afterburners and been an excellent offensive threat, but Super Nintendo Hjalmers has been performing at a high level night in and night out.

    • jackattack

Yes. And it’s not really close.

    • Special Agent Dale Cooper

I think he is…Don’t know where the hell this has been the last few years, but…I guess I’ll go with him having a competent partner…I just think it is too much of a coincidence that Hammer played his best hockey with Soupy as his partner, and now with Oduya…Here is to hoping they keep playing like this if the Hawks make the playoffs

      • http://twitter.com/ChiNativeSon ChicagoNativeSon

“Don’t know where the hell this has been the last few years”

He’s been right there all along, statistically being the Hawks best defensive d-man.

And the eye test should’ve shown that he was darn good the past couple of years too, but due to bias, people glommed on to the idea that he had the yips with the puck even though it was pretty well shown it was simply cognitive dissonance.

        • detroit must die

Nothing else to add to that, except, yep.

        • Z-man19

I’ll agree that all the crap Hammer took here last year was just that, crap. However, is he not better this year? The eye test tells me he is.

          • TheFullAmonte

I would say defensively he seems much the same (in a good way) but with the puck on his stick he seems to have confidence and is much more likely to be calm and relaxed instead of his tendency to play hot potato with the puck from last year.

          • cliffkoroll

I think Nintendo struggled a bit post-Soupy/pre-Oduya, but not nearly as much as some let on.

          • Accipiter

The PS3 and XBOX ruined Nintendo.

        • Skags

Last year in particular, it was pretty well documented that Hammer had almost not confidence with the puck and would simply ring it up along the boards, blindly, especially when he was being even slightly pressured. Prior to this year, I can’t remember the last time I remember seeing him skate with the puck or make a short tape to tape pass out of the zone.

He looks like a completely different player. Calm, decisive, and confident. He’s always been a beast in terms of blocking shots and getting his stick in the way, but his play with puck this year is flat out like watching a completely different player.

I think it’s sort of self-evident by looking at the pairing minutes. Last year, Q had to lean on 7/2 heavily. This year it’s a lot more even. There simply is no question that Hammer is playing better.

Bias? Lol. Dude blindly fired the puck along the boards damn near every time it touched his stick. Cognitive dissonance is suggesting that this didn’t or wasn’t happening.

          • http://twitter.com/ChiNativeSon ChicagoNativeSon

“Last year in particular, it was pretty well documented that Hammer had almost not confidence with the puck”

            How does one document confidence?

Actually I recall documenting the opposite. I kept count of how often Hjammer turned the puck over and it was no worse than any other defender on the team. Many games, in the post game comments or write up, Hjammer would be blamed for numerous turnovers in the fashion you described, when in reality – in almost every case – he only had 1 turnover in those games.

It’s bias. People see what they want to see. Or what they’re spoon fed.

Funny how many complain about the stretch pass turnovers, but no one pins a label on Seabrook as “blindly firing the puck to the opposition damn near every time it touches his stick.”

And maybe, just maybe it’s not that Hjammer looks any different, but the guys ahead of him look much worse. And perhaps that’s why Q hasn’t “leaned on” 2-7 heavily.

Aside from other statistics now showing their favor, Seabrook is 2nd in the entire league in turnovers and Keith is 28th.

            http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.htm?fetchKey=20132ALLDADALL&sort=giveaways&viewName=rtssPlayerStats

            Who’s got the yips?

And they’ve had by far the most on the team over the past 4 years – and it’s disproportionately higher than it should be based on TOI or the fact they’re supposed to be two of the best dmen in the league. Not trying to knock them down, but why are they sacred cows? Because blog writers haven’t called them out enough for the trickle down effect to take over?

And Q is not weighing more on Hjammer-Oduya and less on Seabs-Keith. Hjammer and Oduya’s ice time is almost exactly the same. Q has been weighing on the 3rd pairing more heavily than in any year since 2009 – more specifically the 6th d-man is getting significantly increased minutes. So Keith’s drop in ice time by 2 mins and Seabs by 1 min is due to the extra 2 mins Q’s been giving to each guy on the 3rd pairing.

          • Skags

            Uhh no. You’re wrong.

            TOI per game 2011-2012

Keith 26:53 (2nd in the league)

            Seabrook: 24:43

            Oudya 20:27

            Hammer: 20:10

            2012-2013

            Keith 24:01 (30th)

            Seabrook: 23:39

            Oudya: 22:06

            Hammer: 21:04

            Cognitive dissonance? Indeed.

          • http://twitter.com/ChiNativeSon ChicagoNativeSon

Um, you do realize that Oduya played the majority of 2012 in Winnipeg right?

After coming to the Hawks, Oduya averaged just under 25 mins per game (24:50). So Oduya’s TOI has dropped by almost 3 mins.

Difference in combined TOI from 2012 to 2013, 2-7: -3:54
Difference in combined TOI from 2012 to 2013, 4-27: -2:00

            So…

            1. 2-7′s decrease in TOI has been by about 4 mins. I previously roughly stated 3 mins without looking at the stats.

            2. 4-27′s TOI has actually decreased by 2 mins.

            3. Therefore, again, Q is leaning more heavily on the 3rd pairing, NOT on the 2nd pairing. And even more so than I previously pointed out. Thanks for proving that for me.

So now, where’s the cognitive dissonance?

          • laaarmer

            No! You!

          • Skags

            NO YOU!

            This is a weird argument.

Leddy was on the second pair last year and clocked over 20 minutes a game. This year he’s on the 3rd pair and his TOI is down about 4 minutes. He’s off the PK and his EV strength time is down. And Brookbank sees less ice than OD did on the third. So to say he’s leaning more on the 3rd pair is damning with faint praise considering Leddy’s demotion.

All I know for sure is that Q is spreading the TOI more evenly with his defensive corps than he has in years past.

One of the biggest reasons why, in my mind, is the play of Hammer.

          • http://twitter.com/neo873 Neo

Hawks have almost 3M spent on their third d-pair this year instead of the 500k/player types that they have had in the past. So Q is making more use of his third pair than he has in the past.

And the Hawks have obviously made a concerted effort to role lines (both forwards and d-pairs) to get through this short time between games season.

          • cliffkoroll

            re: Marlboro v. Hammer. QOC?

          • http://twitter.com/neo873 Neo

Last season Toews and Bolland played against the other team’s top two lines, Toews in offensive situations, Bolland in defensive ones. This year those two centers continue to play
against the other team’s top two lines but by Q simply rolling his forward lines.

Last season Toews and Bolland played against the other team’s top two lines, Toews in offensive situations, Bolland in defensive ones. This year those two centers continue to play
against the other team’s top two lines but by Q simply rolling his forward lines.

Both seasons Q has primarily rolled his defensive pairs, so
this year 72’s and 4’s Quality of Competition is primarily coming from being matched with the Hawks forwards; 72 and Toews against the 3/1 opposition lines, 4 and Bolland against the other team’s 1st and 2nd.

Now the interesting aspect of the start of the season has
been when Hammer has played with Toews, that combination is 5 GF and 0 GA for the season. And that is where Toews’ and Hammer’s extremely high goalie saves percentages appear to have primarily happened.

As for the offense with Hammer and Toews together, here are the goals/assists for those 5 goals:

Toews/Kane – missed opponent’s shot leaves defensive zone, Kane reaches puck first, rush and shot, followup shot/goal by Toews

Hossa/Toews – Toews steal at defensive blueline, pass to hossa 45 foot wrister

Toews/Kane/Hossa – Hossa steal inside offensive blueline,
kane to wide open Toews in front of net

Toews/Hossa – Hossa steal in defensive zone, pass to Toews wrist shot “fluke” goal – Toews with palms up celebration

Kane/Hossa – Toews steal on douglas murray at goal line,
pass to kane in front of net goal

All these goals appear to have nothing to do with which
d-pair was on the ice at the time. And it is these goals and the goalie save percentage when 4 plays with Toews which separate the two d-pairs in +/-. So at this time, I’m still thinking small sample sizes and not really any difference in d-pair play.

          • http://twitter.com/ChiNativeSon ChicagoNativeSon

I do agree. Just disagree he was bad the past two years.

And obviously Q made his decision to move Bolland to 2C and even out the defense’s minutes prior to the season. Since there was no preseason that decision was made based on players’ performances from last year.

If Q viewed Hjammer’s past performance in the same light as many fans, that move would never have been considered, let alone executed successfully.

          • nextgame

I think those decisions may have also been influenced by the shortened/condensed schedule.

    • Joe Banks

He’s found the key to the next dimension…a quantum leap from last year.(The Oduya factor?)

        • Skags

Seriously. Do we have to go through this again?

  • jackattack

We need to give credit where credit is due; Andrew Shaw is a legit answer for the 3rd line center position. He’s the real deal.

    • bandwagondan

Yes. But does Bolly’s inability to win faceoffs decrease his value at 2nd?

      • special agent dale cooper

I think it does…Still would love to see a C that can win some draws…they call themselves a puck possession team, yet one of the most important parts of that type of team is missing…winning faceoffs Stanley!!!!!!!

        • bandwagondan

Sharp’s on the line. I guess he could take some if it gets to be a problem.

      • berrisfueller

He won 57% last night and is currently 47th in the league in wins. He’s not that inable.

        • bandwagondan

Would make us all very happy if that trend continues. He’s never been terrible. Just usually under 50% (from casual observation).

    • Z-man19

I saw something last night that I don’t understand, Kruger taking draws with Shaw’s line on the ice. I saw it twice, the first time Kruger got kicked out and Shaw took the draw, the second time Kruger took it. Both times, Kruger left the ice so Stals could join his line. The numbers say Shaw is better at the dot, so why is Kruger taking some of his draws?

      • Skags

I think because even if he loses the draw, he’s better defensively. I mean, if I’m not mistaken Q does this with the 3rd line on a defensive draw. It’s just insurance.

        • Z-man19

I could be wrong on this, but the first time it happened, I think the hawks were in the O zone and Krugs got kicked out. The 2nd might have been a D zone draw, but both times Kruger left the ice as soon as he could after the draw. If he’s worried about defense, we didn’t Kruger stay on the ice after the draw? And if he wants two C’s on the ice for the draws, why isn’t Shaw taking them?

    • http://twitter.com/ChiNativeSon ChicagoNativeSon

Strongly disagree. He’s might be a decent 4th line center. I say “might be” because most 4th line centers don’t get to skate with linemates the caliber of Bickell and Stalberg.

Q has been using the 3rd line in typical 4th line situations. Take a look at the level of competition they’ve faced, Corsi Rel QoC, and the Off Zone Starts they get. The 3rd line is facing by far the easiest competition and getting the easiest zone starts.

      http://www.behindthenet.ca/nhl_statistics.php?ds=30&s=13&f1=2012_s&f2=5v5&f4=C+LW+RW&f5=CHI&f7=5-&c=0+1+3+5+4+6+7+8+13+14+29+30+32+33+34+45+46+63+67#

That’s completely opposite the assignments that line got with Bolland at the helm. And they’re performing worse than they did when they were thrown in the deep end in years past. That line should be putting up more points IMO in this year’s bum slayer role. They’re not. They’re getting decent production, but losing the Corsi battle which is a good long term predictor.

And Shaw hasn’t been part of that decent production at EV.

Stalberg leads the team in EV Goals/60. Bickell leads the team in Primary Assists/60. Shaw is bottom half of the team in both, and in secondary assists. He’s the weak link on that line.

And Q doesn’t trust Shaw defensively, as he shouldn’t. He trusts the two best purely defensive forwards on the entire team IMO, Kruger and Frolik more than Shaw and Bickell. As he should.

      • red palace

Other than a quibble about easiest zone starts (2nd line, no?), I find this persuasive re Shaw. Quite a turnaround from his solid production against tough competition last year. For now, I’m inclined to see a move back to wing as a nice card that Q has in his pocket.

Fun fact: Last season, Carcillo was the second-highest Hawk in both primary and secondary assists per 60.

        • http://twitter.com/ChiNativeSon ChicagoNativeSon

Ah, you are correct. I should have used the comparative rather than the the superlative.

As Neo pointed out previously, looking at this season’s 3rd line usage, you’d think the Hawks had a new coach.

  • special agent dale cooper

Is it me or are the Sharks to Kruger what the Blue Jackets are to Stalberg as far as goal scoring goes?

  • Special Agent Dale Cooper

D men all played under 22min….Brookbank looks better and better to me…And HAmmer and Oduya looking very very good…Seems like Oduya is having the Soupy affect on the rest of the Dmen…Keith has been strong for a bit now….Only if Seabs would get his ass in gear, but he has blocked a hell of a lot of shots

  • Special Agent Dale Cooper

Is the Hoss-Toews-Saad line having a bit of a slump right now?

Hoss – 3 points in his last 7 games
Saad – 2 points in his last 7 games

Toews – 6 pointss in his last 7 games

Somehow I imagined that they would produce more….And the fact that Sharp hasn’t been the Shooter we all know him to be has me worried a bit….Just dips? or will this be a season trend?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/John-Faker/558555424 John Faker

That line is constantly getting chances, if they werent then yes they would be slumping. If not for a few big saves, those points would be way up.

  • Fleshrifle

Nice game..complete control and no injuries. But if the Sharks aren’t a conference power, then in this conference, they are an Also-Ran. Catching them down is one thing but I get the sense the Sharks know that when you lose 6-2 to the Jackets at home your window is closed. Without a Cup this team is demolished this off-season. And like all editions of the Sharks the past 10 years, this team doesn’t have the cajones or will to push through and own their destiny. They have been a good team for 10 years. But they have as little left as Scum’s talent without the wisdom or experience of winning. They have 3-4 years of rebuilding ahead of them and they know it and so have cratered. Hopefully the Nucks look at the Sharks and see themselves next year and feel sad.

Maker’s is going to be 84 proof now, instead of 90… was reading an article about it last night. Seems that their quality has really fallen off the last few years as they’ve failed to grow enough to meet demand, They age for less than 6 years now, instead of over 7 like they used to as well. http://gizmodo.com/5984468/why-makers-mark-watering-down-its-whiskey-doesnt-matter-one-bit

          • Bullitt315

Yes, I am aware. I haven’t noticed any difference in taste due to aging but if(seems like when at this point) they do change the proof, I will notice that. When I was in Nashville a couple years ago, a handle of Bulleit was $30. In Chicago it’s $30 for a fifth.

          • DesertHawk

The thoughts of the article seem to be that the change in proof won’t really be noticeable as most people already water their whiskey down with ice. I’ve never had it, so I was mostly just gee-whizzing cause I’d literally just read the article.

Fels, I truly hate it when I agree with everything you say….I get that dittohead lemming feeling, accompanied by nausea….Having said that, I think you are correct on all points. If you saw Q’s press conference, your description of Toews’ going psycho on “Big DUMBASS CLASSLESS CUPLESS HEARTLESS Joe” pretty much matched the facial expressions and measured words of Joel. It was just something that Tazer had to do. And for Dream Warrior, I wish he was getting another 5 minutes a game, but he is where he belongs for now and doing a great job on the PK. And, oh yeah…..those sharks are carrying a lot of dead weight. Aside from Couture, Kennedy and that fourth line winger guy (Haverlat or something), their forwards don’t look so scary as their cap hit.

    • Scott13

      Pavelski too, he’s 6G, 8A and a +1.

Anyway, I am all for non-violence in society, the streets of Chicago, etc., but this is the game of HOCKEY! This is not a PTA mothers meeting. There is fighting, there is a code, and I’ll be damned if it isn’t the turning point of a game here and there. And that is a FACT, ask the fucking players!!! It was against the Coyotes with Torres and it was against the Sharks. When someone steps up and shows the warrior mentality and the sense of shared sacrifice, it electrifies the team and inspires that rush of adrenaline that turns the momentum of a game. The most important thing is that momentum change, it’s like turning the tide in the ocean. When Tazer does that every 2 or 3 years. I’m all for it. He’s a big boy with a giant ass, and he can handle a few busted knuckles or facial scratches. If this Fels guy wants to “go green” he should buy a new refrigerator. Grow some balls. Old time hockey, real hockey, Go jump in the ocean and save the whales or something, and take this daydream nation and captain marvel, nicknames NO ONE USES EXCEPT YOU, with ya! Bye for now.

      • Accipiter

They sound lovely, but are extremely elusive.

      • Sparky_The_Barbarian

Gun violins? Is that a string instrument or a percussion instrument?

Speaking as a Barbarian, I was always in favor of Saxon Violence, myself.

    • ClusterPuck

I disagree, Hawks owned the sharks from the first puck drop and this game is an absolute 7-1 blowout if Hossa and a few others capitalize on wide open nets. Toews doesn’t fight to spark the team, he fought because the game was in hand and he settled a personal score. Which I have no problem with the captain of my team doing, its in his rights. Momentum change? The Sharts didn’t git a shot off until under 10 in the 1st? The ice was tilted all night as the Hawks were just too fast and too dominant.

      • 10thMountainFire

I agree with the basic premise that a fight can be somewhat justified and I believe Toews simply had had enough of Thornton last night. Combined with the personal history, it boiled over and Toews made a decision that it was the right ‘time’ to do it. However nosmokeinthelungs seems to be taking this quite personally. That or it’s an inside joke here I’m not quite getting.

Anyway, I just got my first down-boat above. I’m actually quite excited about that last part.

        • Bullitt315

I completely agree with you. The whole “Toews fought to spark the team” argument is pretty dumb in this case. He fought because he was pissed off at Joe Thorton.

          • 10thMountainFire

I also think it was about Thornton and not the team.

    • 10thMountainFire

  • Scott13

I don’t doubt that the Toews silliness did motivate the team. Mr. Perfect has picked up his teammates after boneheaded plays enough times that they were far in debt to return the favor. How many times has Sharp, Bolland or Kane taken a petulant, selfish penalty? Hell, a Hossa bad penalty will forever be cemented in Blackhawks lore. Especially considering Thornton’s lengthy history of bitchass when it comes to Toews they really couldn’t fault Toews for going full idiot and taking a selfish 21 minute breather (that somehow only got 9?). I’m sure every guy on the bench rallied around the idea of killing the extended penalty for the Captain. That they were able to kill off the double (or 1 & 1/2 thanks to Marleau) and got a subsequent Bolland goal was doubtlessly a huge boost.

    • 10thMountainFire

I knew the moment he dropped the mitts that it was a good time to do it. The small difficult-to-find niche where fighting DOES fit well into with our game is what Toews found last night; he was being cheap-shotted by a guy who had done it in the past, he had a history with the guy he dropped with, and his team was tied on home ice. It was the perfect spot. I’m not advocating goonery… but this one is of the few that fits perfectly.

      • Paul the Fossil

I’m firmly in the get-rid-of-routine-fighting camp myself but can’t argue with your analysis of this one at all, 10th. The one thing giving extra pause is Tazer’s concussion history, but on the merits of the situation it was a spot well picked.

        • 10thMountainFire

I agree. I think it’s one of those extremely rare examples.

    • Sparky_The_Barbarian

No. Toews did not motivate the team. The Kill motivated the team. Bolly Drawing a penalty to make a 4 on 4 out of a four minute Sharks PP motivated the team, and then Bolly punching home his own rebound 4 on 4 to give the hawks a 1-0 lead with only loose change remaining in the first motivated the Hawks and three the Ship of Shark onto the reef.

      • Skags

You know, not for nothing, but I am always amused by commenters who think they know better than the players. Not just you. Anyone for that matter.

Take the last Coyotes game. Mayers went after fuck face and Kaner said it motivated the bench and gave him goose bumps. And then pundits against fighting, all said that they doubted it motivated the team. Like you guys know better than the players?

Now we have the same thing with the Toews fight. I don’t understand how you or anyone can make a statement of fact against what a player says. I find it amusing.

I don’t really care for fighting, but I’m not going to say I know what motivates the players better than they do. That seems a little ridiculous to me.

Not coming after you, Sparky. Just saying. Lot’s of people armchair quarterbacking this team all seem to know more than the guys on the ice.

        • ahnfire

True, but is anyone going to say to the media, “Yea, that fight was kind of meaningless. It’s a nice gesture & we appreciate the thought behind it but really we’re just focusing on the next shift and the ensuing penalty kill.”

Of course not. They’re going to stand up for their teammates to the media and tell them how great it was, how invigorating it was, how it gave them an extra kick.

I’m not saying that it can’t be true, that maybe they do feel the way they say – but the likelihood that they’d express the opposite opinion is small.

          • Skags

It’s not all or nothing. They don’t have to comment at all. They could say whatever they want.

The question: “What did that fight do to motivate you.”

(possible) Answer: “We have a job to do and win the game. So we killed the penalty.” They could say anything at this point really.

However, in both the Mayers and Toews fights, a lot of players have come out and said it was motivating. That they loved it. Why is that discarded?

My issue is that when a player does come out and say that watching their teammate fight, it did motivate them. And then a lot of pundits on the radio, in print, on blogs like to say no, it didn’t. Fighting is dumb. As if somehow they know better. It’s ridiculous

          • ahnfire

I think, for me, it’s because I really don’t expect them to say anything else other than that it motivated them. Sure, they could do as you suggested and talk around it, but I don’t see that happening because the underlying hockey culture dictates that a fight = momentum change.

They could mean it, they could be lying through their teeth, they could be totally apathetic to it all – I agree, it’s not all or nothing. But I guess I’m just a cynic who doesn’t believe that they’d be 100% honest with the media.

          • 10thMountainFire

            You’re so jaded, Ahn.

          • justforkicks

Yeah I tend to think the way players are when a teammate lays a bad hit is the same in all cases. Like how often do players say “Yeah that was a bad hit”? There are pretty few instances from what I can recall where they did – the Yotes certainly didn’t. I know Toews alluded to it with Keith and Ference did for I forget who, but that’s about it. And everytime it happens we say, well what else are they supposed to say. They could say nothing, but they don’t – team first always.

Again maybe they are being 100% honest, maybe they aren’t, I don’t know, but I always take it with a grain of salt.

        • 10thMountainFire

          This is a great post.

I don’t advocate goonery but we really shouldn’t have to continually say that to couch the statement that ‘yes, fighting does have a place- it’s a rare place to find, but there is a place.’

I agree that Mayers and Toews’ examples are good.

          • Waylon

For an example to the contrary, I don’t remember anyone on the Hawks going all rah – rah after one of Scott’s fights. Probably because most of them were meaningless face – offs with the other team’s designated goon.

        • http://twitter.com/ChiNativeSon ChicagoNativeSon

And when the team loses? Or when the opposition scores on the ensuing PP? In those instances were they therefore “not quite motivational enough” fights?

And what about the other team? Are they not motivated too because surely they see the situation in a different light? Doesn’t that therefore negate any advantage?

Players are bigger homers than us fans because they have a personal relationship with each other. Surely being personally involved in a situation has never in the history of ever clouded one’s decision making or view on a topic.

          • birdhead

And what about the other team? Are they not motivated too because surely they see the situation in a different light? Doesn’t that therefore negate any advantage?

Yeah, this. They all say the same things whether they win or lose. And they probably feel it’s true! But that’s not the same as it actually making them better.

          • Skags

Did anyone in a Coyotes uniform say that watching fuck face get in a fight with Mayers give them goose bumps or motivate the bench? No. They didn’t.

This isn’t philosophy. It’s real simple. Either you accept what the players say as truth or you can think you know better. It’s really that simple.

          • justforkicks

i don’t think anyone asked them though? whereas everyone asked the hawks because of the personal nature of it.

          • Skags

            Torres was asked about it.

“I’ve moved on. I don’t go home and think about this stuff. It’s something that’s in the past, and it’s just part of the game,” Torres told the local media. “But I understand that if I’m going to go out there and run around and give some hits, then I’m going to have to answer the bell sometimes. That’s a perfect example tonight.”

          • 10thMountainFire

There’s no way Torres said all that. His brain is put back on screen saver after single sentence efforts.

          • Skags

            lol

          • 10thMountainFire

On second thought, you could have cut the quote off after:

            “I’ve moved on. I don’t go home and think…’

          • justforkicks

Torres was the one in the fight. I’m talking about his teammates, which is what I thought you were talking about as well in the fight sparking something. They might have said the same thing, I don’t know. TBH I’d hope if asked his teammates would say the same thing given what he was answering for.

          • Skags

I just want to cut through the minutia. You’re saying that Kane didn’t actually get chills watching Mayers fight Torres and that it didn’t energize the bench like so many other players said? And that watching Toews drop the gloves with Joe after all his shit that it didn’t motivate them like they say it did?

Is that what you’re saying? What are you basing this on?

I take them at their word. They’re the ones on the ice playing. I don’t see how or why they would say it if they didn’t feel that way and I really don’t see how you or anyone else watching the game can know better than them.

            /shrugs

          • justforkicks

Quite frankly you’re reading something I’m not saying. Granted this may be in a different direction from the rest of these comments but I’m just curious to see if the Yotes even had the opportunity to say anything given your comment. You said:

Did anyone in a Coyotes uniform say that watching fuck face get in a fight with Mayers give them goose bumps or motivate the bench? No. They didn’t.

I’m asking if anyone on the team was actually even asked about the fight. You gave me torres quote, I meant his teammates, not the dude in the fight itself. I’m also saying if Torres’ teammates did give a quote, i’d hope it’d be similar to what Torres said given why they were fighting.

          • Z-man19

or because the hawks won the game and the yotes got it handed to them.

          • justforkicks

you don’t think they would have asked the hawks about it if they lost, and that the players wouldn’t have said the exact same thing?

          • Z-man19

the hawks had a score to settle, even if they had lost that game it would have been approved of. I’m just saying that the media probably doesn’t go into the losing team’s locker room and say ‘so that fight must have really motivated you guys, you only lost by 4′

            edited for poor typing

          • justforkicks

not that exact quote no, but i think they’d still ask if they felt like it was done now. the fact remains, they were asked, said what they did, though emery had a pretty lukewarm response to it, and while i don’t think we’d ever see a player say they thought the fight was stupid even if they felt it was, guys continue to say they were impacted by it so it is what it is

          • amontesawesome

Psychologists have a term for something called “creeping determinsm.” Basically, it’s where a person, when asked how they felt about an event in the past, inevitably let events that transpired in the interim cloud their memory. They remember feeling a certain way, but their memory of how the felt has been changed by what happened since.

Malcolm Gladwell did an essay involving this topic and he pointed to a study done in which a group of people were asked questions before and after Nixon went to China. The before questions dealt with what they thought were Nixon’s chances of a successful visit. The after questions were asking them to remember how they felt about Nixon’s chances at success before he left for China. The overwhelming result was that the subjects remembered being more optimistic than they were. The outcome clouded their memory of how they felt.

Now, what does this have to do with anything? I think that’s likely what happened here. Mayers fought Torres, then the Hawks went on to kick the crap out of the Coyotes. When asked about it in retrospect, it’s natural to draw a line to connect the two events. Same thing last night. Toews fought Thornton, Hawks went on to kick the crap out of the Sharks.

It’s not a matter of knowing better about how the players feel than themselves, I’m sure in retrospect they felt that way. It’s a matter of understanding how humans understand/talk about things.

          • http://twitter.com/ChiNativeSon ChicagoNativeSon

Heh. Of course no one stated that it motivated the bench because no one asked! They lost.

            Here’s how it works:

            A. Team wins the game (50% of time)

            1. If player wins fight:
Media asks players “Did the fight motivate the team?” Players respond, “Yeah, TOTALLY! SoAndSo got a few nice shots in there. Blah blah blah…”

            2. If player loses fight:
Media and players state, “It’s not whether he won or lost the fight, it was the fact that SoAndSo showed up that mattered. His sacrifice motivated the bench.”

            B. Team loses the game (50% of time)
            1. The media doesn’t ask the fucking question.
            2. Media, bloggers and commenters state: “It was an ill-timed fight.”

Because, you see, it’s timing that’s most important.

            And the final score.

I’d pay to see the reporter who asks, “You guys sucked tonight. Was it because SoAndSo got his ass handed to him?”
And the reply. “Yeah, SoAndSo got PWND. It was embarrassing. Embarrassing for him and for the team. We all kinda cowered on the bench at that point and just wanted out of there. Totally deflating.”

And again, since you failed to either read or comprehend what I previously commented, I wrote in agreement with you “I bet it does temporarily motivate both teams”, so I really don’t even understand your point?

What I do understand and what I stated was, it simply does not give one team a significant advantage over another. Do you believe fighting only motivates one team and not the other? Cuz if not, we’re basically in agreement.

      • putmeinthemadhouse

acually sharp was quoted on saying “”I said to the guys in the room, ‘Any chance to get to see Johnny get punched in the face a few times we’ll gladly kill that (power play) off.’” soo…maybe it did motivate the team a bit.

        • ahnfire

I love how Sharpy loves to troll DDN (& Stals). Bolland may pester opponents, but Sharpy’s favorite targets are his own teammates.

15:31-Chicago-unsportsmanlike conduct – 2 minJ. Toews drawn by J. Thornton served by B. Bickell

The Captain, Johnny Toews, Superman, Captain Perfect got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty? WTF!!!!

      • Sparky_The_Barbarian

        Upboat for the Bicks comment

    • Bullitt315

Apparently the refs didn’t want to give the sharks a 6 minute powerplay so an instigating with a visor 4 minute penalty turned into a 2 minute unsportsmanlike penalty. Seemed pretty stupid to me.

      • http://twitter.com/neo873 Neo

Instigating with a visor is 2 for instigating, 2 for unsportsmanship for wearing the visor and a 10 minute misconduct penalty.

So the unsportsmanship had to be for yapping since you can’t get the 2 minutes for the visor without getting the instigator first.

Man, if you want to see something funny, watch Joe Thornton on that Hammer goal in the third. He has no idea where the puck is and no idea what to do defensively.

  • Skags

I am digging the Blackhawks new PP song too. It’s been on my ipod for over a year now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gujB7A5ycew

  • Sparky_The_Barbarian

The PP goal was NOT pretty. It was not (just) a thing of skill. It was ugly, it was a clusterfuck in front of the net. It required the Hawks to get dirty down in the trench and fight like mad to win the rebound chance. It was NOT a thing of skill. It was a thing of WANTING it more than the other guy….

And as a result, I cheered louder for that goal than I have for any goal in a long long time.

And yes, movement was better, especially at the blue line.

My reaction to: “-Patrick Marleau had one shot.”

    Buwahahahahahahaha.

    • http://twitter.com/ChiNativeSon ChicagoNativeSon

“It was a thing of WANTING it more than the other guy….”

Didn’t the replay show Pavelski knocked it into his own net?

(why do I get the feeling that you and Skags are now gonna give me a dissertation on the game changing effects of desire? I keed! I keed!)

      • laaarmer

desire = confidence x luck x shot quality x faceoff wins

        • Accipiter

          What aboot hits ?

      • Skags

        lol

  • JesusMarianHossa

It’s wishy washy but not sure I could describe my feelings about the Captains fighting any better than you did. I hope it acts as a deterrent going forward for Jumbo but somehow I think he’ll continue to be a rectal wart for Toews in the future

    • Eddie_The_Eagle50

I think rectal warts everywhere are offended by that comparison to jumbo joe.

    • justforkicks

i kind of think that guys knowing they can push you to that point means they will just try to do it again. lord knows i would show no mercy if i knew a way to get a rise out of someone

      • Bullitt315

Even if it meant getting punched in the face?

        • 10thMountainFire

ESPECIALLY if it meant getting punched in the face. Have you met Daniel Carcillo?

        • justforkicks

especially if it meant getting punched in the face given they’ve seen the way tazer fights

          • Accipiter

I’d rather get punched in the face than be in a tazer fight.

          • justforkicks

what if you were tazer in the fight? 2 for the price of 1

          • 10thMountainFire

Actually, Jonny hasn’t been all that bad in his three fights; the first one… eh, yeah, you could make a case for his being worked. But he worked Backes as well as he got and Thornton had reach and size on him. All-in-all, Toews has done nothing but reinforce what we think of him… he has character and guts. ‘…and guts is enough.’

          • justforkicks

speaking of guts, he barfed after the backes fight, didn’t he?

          • Accipiter

            Backes has cooties.

          • justforkicks

tazer didn’t get his shots i guess

          • Accipiter

It’s a rare strain void of leadership and Toews’ body immediately rejected it, no shots needed.

          • 10thMountainFire

            …which explains Toews vomiting.

          • ahnfire

            yup, in the penalty box.

          • 10thMountainFire

Holy awesome hilarity, Batman. I didn’t know that.

          • ahnfire

oh Tazer. he gets a gold star for trying….and a big cushioned helmet while we’re at it.

(please don’t get any ideas, Kaner. you’d be killed.)

          • Waylon

Have you noticed how JoeBlow fights? He doesn’t, to put it in summation. He also rarely picks on anyone close to his size, more like players who come up to his neckline. Total farking coward.

  • Waylon

Made the mistake of finally going into another team’s blog this season -
and while I generally like the Fear the Fin guys, none of them
understand why Toews dropped the gloves and express bewilderment over
why Joe Blow didn’t whale on him. The rose – colored glasses are strong
with them – but yeah, keep blaming Marleau for all of your team’s
    problems.

  • justforkicks

    Emery in net tomorrow btw

    • 10thMountainFire

I think we ride Razor for the next week… or until whatever is ailing Crow subsides or is healed.

      • justforkicks

most likely. i’m good with it

      • Z-man19

can we just walk with Razor and not ride him? He does have an artificial joint you know

        • 10thMountainFire

Alright, but this is the only favor I’m doing for you. From now on, when my hyperbolic examples of our relationships as fans to the players are posted, you up-boat that shit and you do it fast. Understood?

          • Z-man19

How did I know you wouldn’t handle rejecttion well?

          • 10thMountainFire

Because anger management classes failed me… twice?

          • Accipiter

You could have let him down a little easier.

          • Z-man19

He rushed it, what can I say, I like to be courted

  • ballyb11

Why don’t they say gutted and cleaned?

    • ahnfire

Bolly enjoys blood spatter on the ice.

  • ahnfire

    via Mark Lazerus
“@MarkLazerus Asked about picking a fight himself, Patrick Kane looked at his hands and said: “Don’t want to mess these things up too bad.” #Blackhawks”

Smart, Kaner. Also, you’d probably be destroyed before you got the second glove off.

    • pompoon

According to Bollig, “he couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag.”

      http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=655176

    • 10thMountainFire

Well, Toews’ first fight WAS defending Kane. Irony.

    • Accipiter

Well, at least the mouthguard won’t act as a choking hazard.

      • Z-man19

        Thought he quit wearing it

        • justforkicks

yup, was a whole article about it

        • Accipiter

          That was the idea.

    • justforkicks

      smart boy

    • Waylon

After his wrist injury, glad to see he won’t be risking another one in an unwarranted fashion. I still wonder if one of the reasons we’re seeing a new and improved Kaner this season is because that wrist finally has healed completely. Tricky injuries, those.

  • cliffkoroll

OK maybe I’m imagining this whole thing, but I’m thinking McClellan rides his #19 captain pretty hard, along the lines of “You see that #19 captain on the other team? He’s smaller than you, he’s 10 years younger, he’s already got a Cup. Dammit Jumbo, if you can’t hang with him, we’re fucked as a team.” The game in San Jose, Joe took a run at Toews well after Toews had released a SOG. Pissed Johnny right off. Total unnecessary bush league bullshit. This was in the third period, when the Sharks had squandered the lead and looked to be headed for a loss. I’m, guessing McClellan had been in his ear. I also noticed last night, 30 seconds left in the game, total garbage time, and McClellan sends Joe and Marleau out to mop up. I think the coach realizes his stars aren’t up to snuff.

  • BigCSouthside

Jonathan Toews got in that fight in an attempt to make the Sharks seem like a challenge for his teammates.

    • girlphoenix

      Ooo, plot twist

  • nosmokeinthelungs

As for this being a joke. It’s not, I’m just getting warmed up. I am sick and tired of the bullshit on here. I’m sick of the contrivances and closed minded attitudes…this despotic-like analyses in the vein of Kim Jong fat-ass, spoiled brat. As far as I am concerned, you guys and girls are the trolls and I am the prince. I’m sick of this snake oil I’m being sold with this new age hockey ethos on non-fighting, etc. I wish this Fels guy could ever approach one of the Hawks after or during a game with his thoughts and a microphone…it wouldn’t be pretty. That’s why it stays here, in Troll World. Have any of you ever even played hockey before? It’s as close to “warrior” as it gets, short of actual war. You don’t hear the players say that, but that is because of their humble nature, but I will. A warrior is sacrificing your body for the greater goal of the team, which is to win at all costs. It is taking lumps and bruises and risking serious injury. And it is going to the locker room and letting your actions speak volumes without saying a word. It’s causing the sold out UC to go nuts and your team to get goose bumps. It is inspiration on steroids. It’s donning a BLACKHAWKS uniform…to you guys and girls it’s a fashion choice; to the players, it’s blood, sweat and tears. Take your oxford comma and go fuck yourself. That’s warrior mentality. It’s what separates men from mice. And I’m flashing a damn klieg light on all the mice here.

    • DesertHawk

      This gun be good.

      • Accipiter

Are you a partial season ticket holder ?

        • DesertHawk

Sadly no. I’m kinda disappointed that there’s not a new current thread for this though… I think most people will miss it :(

          • nosmokeinthelungs

If I could figure out a way to do that I would, but this comment system is not very user friendly. In fact, it’s horrible. It’s hard to find posts.

          • DesertHawk

No new thread up. This comment system is terrible, agreed.

    • DesertHawk

As close to warrior as you can get short of war -said no one who’s ever been to war-

      • Accipiter

Pretty sure hockey is a game. Now paintball on the other hand…

        • DesertHawk

What was that one the aztecs played where you were sacrificed after the game… I might allow those guys to be called warriors.

          • Chesterfield King

And gladiators… that might be about it.

BUT GLADIATORS DIDN’T WEAR THE BLACKHAWKS UNIFORM

          • DesertHawk

Yeah, where’s 10MF when you need him. He’s our resident warrior, I think we have a few others as well. I don’t count, my combat tours were all at a cooshy 22k ft.

          • 10thMountainFire

            This dude is something else!

          • DesertHawk

If they did it was merely a fashion choice, with no deeper meaning. Just like all of us trolls here. :Brushes back 3 feet of vertical baby blue hair:

          • 10thMountainFire

I have no idea but Mel Gibson made a movie about it, didn’t he?

          • DesertHawk

I don’t know if they played the game in that or not. Apocalypto, was an ok movie… that panther/jaguar was so fake looking.

          • 10thMountainFire

I’ve never been able to determine if the rumor about Waldo being in one of the scenes is true or just an internet rumor.

          • DesertHawk

Only watched it the one time. The part where the critter chases him, the face the protagonist makes when he sees it right before running, had me rolling on the floor.

          • 10thMountainFire

It was like a cheap North Korean-made scene.

          • DesertHawk

It was very much not in sync with the rest of the film.

      • 10thMountainFire

I hope this guy can do this in multiple languages. If this is authentic, this guy is awesome.

        • DesertHawk

Multiple languages? Is this one of our old trolls?

    • DesertHawk

Aww I thought he’d upboated himself, don’t encourage them

        • Chesterfield King

          no this is great.

“Take your oxford comma and go fuck yourself”

          What does that even mean?

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_comma
Why that’s some kinda of derogative…. I have no idea.

          • QCBlackhawk

He is attempting to say that Fels is some kind of “Learned D-Bag in his Ivory Tower”, and failing miserably.

We’re minions now? Do I get a sword?

          • QCBlackhawk

I want a fuckin’ sweet Monarch Butterfly minion uniform. Dibs on #16

            And shiny.

With all the players’ nicknames on the back.

          • 10thMountainFire

        • 10thMountainFire

Bro, do me a favor, have a conversation with me? Cool? I’m ready to talk.

          • nosmokeinthelungs

Not now, I’m watching HNIC and drinking Labatts. I just want to express my opinions without being attacked personally. It’s ok to attack one’s opinions, which is what I’m trying to do. If I come on too strong, I don’t apologize. If I offend personally, then I apologize.

          • 10thMountainFire

That’s cool. We were just wondering why you attacked Sam. No big deal, man. If you like hockey, we’re down to talk. What’s with the anti-CI stuff, though?

And bro, the ‘warrior’ thing? My personal opinion is that you’re being a bit hyperbolic. It’s a sport. These guys would be the first to tell you that you’re taking it a bit too far with the war stuff.

          • DesertHawk

And the anti-vernacular stuff…. they’re the nicknames we as a community came up with, if you’re confused ask for help… don’t be an arse.

          • QCBlackhawk

            “don’t be an arse.”

            Soft yet still solid…

          • DesertHawk

Second the warrior thing, as a retiree who served with real warriors…. hockey players at no level of the sport are warriors.

          • 10thMountainFire

Agreed. Last time I checked, Toews’ line didn’t skate in Abottabad.

          • DesertHawk

Maybe there’s some dudes with RPGs in the crowd when they go to Vancouver, I’ve never really checked. /Bad spotter is bad

          • 10thMountainFire

If there were some in Vancouver, they’re on stand-by during Stanley Cup Finals losses.

          • Z-man19

Not to mention people who devote their lives to saving lives. EMT’s, doctors, scientists, fireman, etc.

          • DesertHawk

Yep… I love me some hockey, but if you’re being paid to play a game you’ve loved your whole life… I don’t really feel there’s any heroics there. Admittedly I always felt weird being thanked for my service, so I could be biased.

          • nosmokeinthelungs

Don’t our “warriors” in the service get paid to do a job as well?

          • 10thMountainFire

            Bro. Watch it.

          • nosmokeinthelungs

It’s a simple question, bro? I’m asking if we have a professional army or a volunteer army? I’m confused if it’s one or both?

          • 10thMountainFire

Dude, it’s been Kool and the Gang for the most part but there are some vets here. Just be respectful of their service by not trying to equivocate their job to that of athletes. Just respect, ok?

          • nosmokeinthelungs

Ugh, do I really have to go through with this? My Grandpa marched at Arc de Triomph after WWII, my dad served in Korea. Give me a fucking break. Move on please, and if I want to equate hockey players to warriors, I will, ok? Football players are not warriors, they are pussies. They don’t even play both sides of the field. It’s like a fucking South Park episode with this shit. Hockey, get back to it.

          • DesertHawk

So because family members served, you can disrespect other service members? Interesting…

          • 10thMountainFire

I think he may have smoke in his lungs, after all.

          • nosmokeinthelungs

This is really petty, I don’t want to talk about war and the justifications for it, ok? Maybe I don’t agree with war, maybe I’m a pacifist? I have that right, goddamnit! But, maybe our warriors deserve the best post-service mental and physical health services our country has to offer. Amen fucking right! And, maybe that Seal Team 6 guy who capped Bin Ladin should have read his fucking contract that he needed to serve 20 years instead of 16 before he starts crying to the media about healthcare for his family. That’s about as quick as I’ve ever seen anyone going from warrior to crybaby….ever!

          • laaarmer

          • Accipiter

You want a toe ? I can get you a toe, with polish.

          • DesertHawk

            Got an in with Bollie?

          • Z-man19

            I think Accipiter is Bolly

          • DesertHawk

            That would be unbelievably awesome.

          • Z-man19

he rarely posts during the games

          • DesertHawk

            Good point…

          • DesertHawk

And this isn’t the forum for any of that, and you’d be amazed at the number of real warriors who think war is utter bollocks but sometimes shit has to be done. The only reason it got to this point is that you insisted on using terminology folks had an issue with. You pushed it.

          • nosmokeinthelungs

Ok Gestapo, now I’m not allowed to use war terminology? Sports and war metaphors live on, please re-read my definition of warrior mentality…that’s my ivory tower.

          • Z-man19

That’s what happens when you join a new community, you try to fit in, follow the rules. There are several real live veterans here that have seen war and they have asked you to stop with the analogies. If you give a shit, you listen and you stop.

          • DesertHawk

            Godwin’s Law FTW!

          • 10thMountainFire

You can’t write your own definitions, dude.

          • nosmokeinthelungs

But that is the very problem I am trying to illuminate with the opinions on this board, particularly by the Fels guy. It’s this “I say, therefore I’m right” attitude. I took the time to say what I meant by warrior mentality, and it should be put on the wall in a nice frame, thank you very much!

          • 10thMountainFire

It’s his house. You don’t put your feet up on a couch in another man’s house, you dig?

And you know shit of being a warrior. So swallow that whole.

          • nosmokeinthelungs

Ok, but I would prefer another metaphor than “putting my feet up on a couch.” I’d like to think I’m rustling some fucking feathers here! Some four feathers of the red, green, yellow and orange persuasion! Damn right I’m alone, I gotta get up early for pond hockey tomorrow morning! In my head I’m a warrior, but I get it that I’m not. I’m a hockey player, but I’ll be damned if I don’t go to war every time I strap on my pads and lay down to block a shot from the point. I’ve got bruises that look like a second asshole. Go Hawks, and down with the negativity against old time hockey!

          • Accipiter

You said it was a Blackhawks practice on an outdoor rink and you were sharpening your teeth, presumably to skate with ?

          • 10thMountainFire

No, you don’t go to war every time you strap on your pads. And that remark proves you are living in a fantasy world. Honestly, I pity you. You’re taking this way too personally.

          • DesertHawk

Go make meatheads’r'us and then write your own posts. You can disagree, don’t shit on everything and everyone. I don’t buy the second half, you’re just being belligerent and stubborn.

          • 10thMountainFire

It’s obvious to me now… he’s a very lonely person, drinking by himself, getting attention on the internet. But his fascination with hating Sam is bizarre.

          • Sparky_The_Barbarian

“No, it’s not me.It’s obvious to me now… he’s a very lonely person, drinking by himself,”

No, 10th MF, it’s not me.

          • 10thMountainFire

            I love you, Sparky.

          • 10thMountainFire

            You’re drunk.

          • DesertHawk

Retreat retreat, I have said things that angered people, and kept hounding on it, please let me retract that without apologizing by changing the topic!

          • 10thMountainFire

            Center-mass. Well done.

          • nosmokeinthelungs

Your the only one tucking you balls in your ass, bra.

          • 10thMountainFire

You’re better off checking out a different site, buddy. You won’t be here much longer with that kind of stuff.

          • DesertHawk

It’s a hobby… I’m kinda curious how you know that though, CREEPER!!!!

          • Accipiter

I was also tucking my balls in my ass, but I am not a wiener tucker !!

          • DesertHawk

Why do we go pants-less if we can’t ball tuck?

          • Accipiter

            It’s one of the perks.

          • BodomSlayer

            And you’re sexy!

          • 10thMountainFire

            war·ri·or [wawr-ee-er, wawr-yer, wor-ee-er, wor-yer] Show IPA
            noun
            1.
a person engaged or experienced in warfare; soldier.

          • DesertHawk

You’ll notice I said I felt uncomfortable being thanked for my service. But I’ll get back to you the first time I get a check for a couple mil for the chronic bull shit I’ve got to live with for the rest of my life now, and I wasn’t a door kicker. You’re on thin ice.

          • DesertHawk

            Also! Job =/= game….

          • nosmokeinthelungs

I read the blog, I respect what’s going on here with all the passion. But, it’s like he’s this outsider contrarian just for that sake. A lot of the opinions are the polar opposite of what hockey players or respected hockey folk like Eddie O and Foley and Steve Konroyd espouse. They are not blowhards like Don Cherry, so they have my respect. When guys like that analyze the players like Bickell making a clean hit to spark the team and taking his lumps for bullshit reasons, or Sharpy standing up for himself after being “cheap-nosed,” or Toews standing up to his ultimate troll Joe Thorn in my Ass….it means something! It means a lot, Take the players at their word. Give them that respect. Those of you that say they are bullshitting the media are bullshitting yourselves. They have to be politically correct, but there are bounties out there, and it’s part of hockey. And, those bounties are paid back in spades from the team, coaching staff and the fans. It’s team currency, pride and a big reason why we are dominating. They stick up for each other like champions.

          • 10thMountainFire

It’s a punk thing, dude. Sam’s a smart guy and his commentary and humor is esoteric as well as intellectual.

But listen, man… no war analogies, please. It’s incongruent with the purpose of being a fan.

          • nosmokeinthelungs

i’d like to think there is a difference between having a warrior-mentality and actually participating in a war. Keep the patriotism shit for the song. This is hockey I’m talking about. And this is new-new-wave punk to Fel’s Green Day.

          • 10thMountainFire

Look up the definition of ‘warrior’man. It’s got the word ‘war’ in it.

          • laaarmer

Warrior. They make cool hockey stuff. Fuck you too.

          • DesertHawk

You’ll notice if you actually pay attention to the comments, that a lot of us don’t agree with his stance always. And just because there are bounties doesn’t mean that that is right.

          • nosmokeinthelungs

Fair enough, I have only started reading for a couple weeks, and I get a pretty good notion of some recurring themes. I couldn’t disagree more wholeheartedly with his stance on the necessity of the players like Carcillo, Torres, Mayers, John Scott, etc., and their style of play and the code.

          • 10thMountainFire

There is no necessity for John Scott… and Mayers and Carcillo don’t belong in the group you just typed. They have skills.

          • Accipiter

To be fair, your comments are full of personal attacks, which may be the reason you get the same in return.

          • DesertHawk

            Yep! :D

          • nosmokeinthelungs

Did Shaw make the Blackhawks by playing nice?

          • 10thMountainFire

Wait. Are you the dude who invented ShawFacts?

          • DesertHawk

To the other Hawks, I’m pretty sure he did. You’re pulling a Beach/Aliu right now.

          • Accipiter

Are you trying to make the Blackhawks ?

          • DesertHawk

Are we a minor league affiliate of some other team?

          • Accipiter

Logic has led me to believe that through personal attacks you too can make the Blackhawks.

          • DesertHawk

Well damn… I could use a pay raise.

          • nosmokeinthelungs

Yes, and I have a practice at the crack of dawn tomorrow morning. Outdoor rink. Tonight, I sharpen my teeth with my oral-digital battle.

          • Accipiter

            Cool.

          • DesertHawk

Do you know what oral means?

          • nosmokeinthelungs

do you know what oral-digital means? Oh sorry, god forbid I make up a definition that doesn’t explain itself.

          • Accipiter

I assumed it was a device used to sharpen teeth.

          • DesertHawk

            I don’t, and neither does the internet…

          • BodomSlayer

            Here’s an oral digital:

          • BodomSlayer

Is it when you stick your…you know what…never mind. It sounds fucked up.

          • DesertHawk

Fingers in your mouth? That’s all I can come up with.

          • BodomSlayer

I was thinking something far worse.

        • DesertHawk

          Bastions are cool.

    • http://twitter.com/ChiNativeSon ChicagoNativeSon

      “It is inspiration on steroids.”

So, wait. Are we now arguing that performance-enhancing substances motivate and inspire players? Did I miss a meeting? I thought it was fighting.

      I’m so confused.

“Take your oxford comma and go fuck yourself. That’s warrior mentality.”

      No, that’s GED-o.

  • laaarmer

After Thronton, biggest tool on the Sharks. I’ll give you a hint in the next few hours.

    • Z-man19

It’s been 30 minutes, lets have the hint

      • Accipiter

        He said hours !!!!

        • DesertHawk

We’re on the internet! Ain’t nobody got time for that!

          • Z-man19

            No shit

    • laaarmer

      He’s also a douche

      • 10thMountainFire

        That’s not helping, man. C’mon.

        • DesertHawk

          is nosmokeinthelungs a shark?

          • 10thMountainFire

If this is Niemi’s revenge… it was worth the wait.

          • 10thMountainFire

Wait. What if this is Doug Wilson trying to steal a free agent again?

          • DesertHawk

Not sure how this approach will work… guess we’ll have to wait and see.

          • 10thMountainFire

However he does it, we’ll end up losing a goaltender and extending Hammer.

          • DesertHawk

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Unless it’s Emery… I have a Crow jersey, and I didn’t buy it so the curse can’t apply.

        • laaarmer

He likes to run his mouth and then run….come on people!

          • DesertHawk

Burish? I’m still thinking it’s the guy below us.

          • 10thMountainFire

            I’m voting Boorish as well.

          • laaarmer

Yes Burish. I hate that fucker (as a hockey player)

  • Guest

Do we have an idea who this is?

    • 10thMountainFire

      Jaeckel? Mariotti?

      • QCBlackhawk

Who was the partial season ticket holder?

        • Z-man19

Blou, but this is beyond him

          • 10thMountainFire

Yeah, this is something pent up for quite a while. Certainly back with us at SCH.

          • Z-man19

I think it’s just random bull shit

          • QCBlackhawk

Seems a little too personal and heated to be random. Dude has a bug up his ass.

          • 10thMountainFire

Yeah, he’s got some angry, drunk-on-a-Monday-afternoon vibes.

          • Z-man19

            You mean his cranium?

        • Accipiter

He also played the game dammit !!!

    • DesertHawk

Heh, I posted this, and then deleted it cause I wayloned…. and it just took my name off of it. disqus!

      • Z-man19

I think we have learned something new then

  • 10thMountainFire

I just want to say, and this is an honest comment, this is an extraordinary group of hockey intellectuals at this site- all those commenting. I seriously don’t ever have conversations as in-depth as you find here on hockey, strategy, and skill. It’s impressive. That’s no BS. And it’s on display today.

    • Z-man19

Not to mention the side topics like beer, whiskey, rectal warts, bagels and marriage proposals

      • DesertHawk

And weird Mel Gibson movies… to be honest I’m best at the side topics.

        • Z-man19

I’ve been working on a nice post on rectal warts, pics and everything

          • DesertHawk

Might have to bypass that one.

          • Accipiter

Tazer has one he calls Jumbo Joe, see if you can get an interview.

          • http://twitter.com/ChiNativeSon ChicagoNativeSon

I just want to know if rectal warts motivate the bench?

          • Z-man19

if you were on a bench with someone with rectal warts, would you be motivated?

          • mightymikeD

motivated to move off the bench I’d have thunk?

    • laaarmer

I’d like to thank the academy…..

      • 10thMountainFire

        No way. Fuck the Academy.

        • laaarmer

I’d like to fuck the academy

          • 10thMountainFire

            Even Paul Giamatti?

          • laaarmer

I am not drinking any fucking merlot

          • Z-man19

first leprechauns now the academy, you like to get around laaarms

    • mightymikeD

Did you all enjoy my little “Heel Turn” as a Troll today? No, just kidding. Boy that guy was an asshole. Don’t recognise the prose style.. think it was, as XMF observed, a daytime drinker.. (a shithead daytime drinker, not a responsible one like me, of course)

      • DesertHawk

Wish you’d been here during the thick of it. Did you read much of it? or did Ahn murder it too fast? Apparently I tuck my balls in my ass, who knew?!

        • ahnfire

I would hope you would’ve noticed if you did…

Honestly, it’s when I saw that he called you “bra” that I decided he needed to go.

          • girlphoenix

            That’s definitely a not-cool

          • DesertHawk

I think he meant it in the brah, sense…. I will admit a bit of duplicity on my part though, I was hoping my response would trigger him to call me a non allowed word so he could be hammered. :feels small amounts of shame:

          • mightymikeD

don’t feel shame.. as a retail veteran, one of my little tricks is to subtly goad an angry customer who is being an asshole into swearing at me. Conversation ends. Large Security Men escort them out the door. I laugh.

          • DesertHawk

I wonder if that would happen in the US, or if that’s a across the pond special? I don’t think I’ve ever seen an asshole customer get escorted off by security, sadly.

          • mightymikeD

my funniest moment was an annoying French Canadian who started swearing at me in French.. which I understood.. and told him so (in French and English) which was the cue for Seb, the Polish Security guy hovering nearby to go “Yeah, I speak French too, you swore at him. Out, now” Seb speaks no French.Love that guy.

          • DesertHawk

Very nice. I think I’d be tempted just to remove him once he got flustered.

          • ahnfire

oh, no I know he meant it in the frat-boy sense.

I just hate when people say that. I find it annoying. So trolling, personal attacks…then frat-boy speak? over the line.

          • DesertHawk

Ah…. what if I’m pretending to be a surfer, is brah ok then?

          • mightymikeD

I read down through the thread.. there’s still plenty of smoking turds left…. wish I’d been there too. If it was a habitual Troll from SCH days I’d guess at PekkaFor blahblahblah..

          • DesertHawk

This guy just seemed tres angry, it was weird. We even offered him outs like 4-5 times.

          • mightymikeD

seemed o me like he wa just trying to pick a fight/inflame people wherever he could.. which is why that wanker from OTF popped into my brain.. similar MO. Picking a fight with yerself and XMF was always going to be a loser..

          • ahnfire

they should all be deleted next time you refresh the site/page. they’ll still show up for anyone that hasn’t refreshed this page yet.

  • Chesterfield King

this is like the best thing that’s ever happened to me

    • 10thMountainFire

It’s at least as cool as the conversation I had at the gym today. And that’s saying something.

  • ahnfire

Aaaaaand boring repeating attempts to troll are being deleted.

Sorry kids, this might mean some of your comments disappear. I’m not really sure how it works with Disqus.

    • 10thMountainFire

      Well there goes my Saturday.

      • QCBlackhawk

Right? I was having fun talking shit at a deserving target.

        • 10thMountainFire

          It’s like internet hockey Taliban.

    • Z-man19

Leave them up as a reminder to use birth control

    • Accipiter

      I haz a sad.

      • 10thMountainFire

        I haz a Saad… picture.

        • Accipiter

          Kneel.

      • Sparky_The_Barbarian

        Saad makes me happy.

    • DesertHawk

      But mooooooooooooooooommmmmm

    • Chesterfield King

Man, I really wanted some reminders about how easy it is to rile everybody up

      • DesertHawk

Mostly I think we just get riled at attacks on other members…. I could care less about the differences in opinion.

    • Sparky_The_Barbarian

I can never remember what the hell I typed anyway.

  • 10thMountainFire

I would have guessed this guy was Raffi Torres but the sequences of sentences relatively free of fragments and phrases indicates otherwise.

  • DesertHawk

So was anything actually deleted for anyone?

    • 10thMountainFire

I think Ahn said Disqus is difficult. She’s probably working it as we speak.

      • laaarmer

I see below that it says Comment has been deleted. Big brother is watching us.

        • DesertHawk

          Like way at the bottom?

          • laaarmer

            No, more bottomer

          • DesertHawk

I found it… I think it was actually a disqus hiccup that caused it to repost… but oh well it’s gone now.

  • 10thMountainFire

Most of the stuff he said is going to get deleted and he’s making some pretty shitty comments about the SEAL and the interview in Esquire. Mean-spirited. He’s just out drunk on a Saturday afternoon and angsting on the internet. His shit about the military is tired extremist junk. He can go fuck himself.

I’m sorry, Ahn. You’ve got quite a job ahead tonight. I apologize for what you find yourself doing.

    • laaarmer

      Ahn. Ban them all

      • 10thMountainFire

        laarmer, I love you.

        • DesertHawk

I think we’re part of “them all” :(

          • 10thMountainFire

Where is Accipiter and his ‘I haz a sad’?

          • Accipiter

            I’m right here !
            /laaarmer’d

          • DesertHawk

            That is not a laaarmer…

          • Accipiter

            A laaarmerism then.

          • Z-man19

            where’s the sad?

          • Accipiter

            I still haz a sad.

  • DesertHawk

Tavares just got a hattie against the Devils, nice.

  • girlphoenix

I slept through the first period of the Icehogs game but it seemed to turn out well. The Hogs scored 5 goals against Abbotsford (2 power play, 1 shorthanded). Of course now I’m awake and listening, Abbotsford scored, so it’s 5-1.

    • DesertHawk

      Damn, go piggies!!

      • girlphoenix

The ABB goalie just took a minor penalty.

        • DesertHawk

          For what?

          • girlphoenix

            Roughing

          • DesertHawk

Have all the goals been scored on the same goalie?

          • girlphoenix

yeah he’s probably not too happy. more multi-points, goal and assist for clendening, 2 assists by broadhurst and youds

          • DesertHawk

So what’s the score now? Do they not pull goalies in the A?

          • AMR

yes but the back up is not a pro goalie. He is a goalie from johnnys ice house so i think they will only put him if their goalie gets hurt.

          • AMR

From Chris Block: As noted, Abbotsford’s backup tonight is not a pro goalie. Tom Moro of Johnny’s IceHouse in Chicago, is backing up in place of Leland Irving

          • DesertHawk

Oh… that’d be awesome for him though if he got to play. :D

          • girlphoenix

or Brust has a rage blackout and has to be taken off.

          • DesertHawk

I laughed really hard at that

      • girlphoenix

        6-1, power play goal

        • DesertHawk

          More damn!

          • girlphoenix

second goal for pirri, second assist for morin

          • 10thMountainFire

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON IN HERE

    • Accipiter

      Bob.

    • 10thMountainFire

      Hi.

      The dog did it.

    • DesertHawk

Save us Bob, you’re our only hope!

    • Sparky_The_Barbarian

This is what happens when we run out of whiskey.

      • DesertHawk

        Damn you Maker’s Mark!!!!

        • Sparky_The_Barbarian

          I said Whiskey, not Whisky.

          • DesertHawk

            I don’t know!!!!! I’ve never had either.

  • girlphoenix

Someone is feeling snarky on twitter tonight:

    Ben Smith @BenASmith12
So the Hogs showed up tonight…

    • DesertHawk

Not so happy about not being able to play…

      • girlphoenix

Probably just glad the Hogs aren’t playing like…the Hogs

  • girlphoenix

    booo ABB scores. 6-2

    • DesertHawk

      Lame. more piggy goals!!!

      • girlphoenix

7-2! I think a record number of goals for the Hogs

        • DesertHawk

Is there time for more? I don’t care, screw temporal rules! MOAR PIGGIES GOALS!!!!!

  • DesertHawk

See, but I’m right, because… I can’t possibly be wrong. :shakes head:

    • Accipiter

When you are right, you are right.

  • girlphoenix

Ryan Stanton has been doing color commentary for the Hogs game (he was injured and sitting out today). It’s great. I love this team so much. Ben is supposed to tomorrow. ♥

  • girlphoenix

    Hogs win!!

    • DesertHawk

      7-2?

      • girlphoenix

        yep

        • DesertHawk

          Hogs DLR!

  • BodomSlayer

God I love this blog. The wonderful sarcasm and all you amazing people!

    • DesertHawk

We do our best. It’s probably cause we’re all internet warriors.

  • ahnfire

holy fuck this guy would not stop talking. I’m going through, debating on whether or not to delete just some or all of nosmoke’s comments.

FYI, it appears that everyone’s replies will stay on the site; just his comments will be deleted.

nosmoke, if you’re reading this, you’ve been blacklisted/banned. There are ways to have a discussion without being a jackass & making personal attacks. Try those; it can only lead to good things.

    • DesertHawk

      Mah hero!!!

    • ahnfire

fuck it, I’m going to mass delete the comments. It’s too much of a pain to go through each one.

      • Z-man19

Ah mom, there’s some quality bull shit in there. Ah fuck it, demolish it, we’ll create more

        • DesertHawk

Our stuff stayed… we all kinda look like crazies now though.

          • Z-man19

Ahn may not be done hacking and whacking yet

          • DesertHawk

            Touche

          • ahnfire

no, I’m not going to go through and delete all your stuff too.

you guys can all look like crazy people talking to a deleted comment.

          • Sparky_The_Barbarian

We don’t need your help to look crazy.

      • stacie7

I wondered what happened that we were over 500 comments. I just checked a couple of hours ago and there weren’t even 200.

        • DesertHawk

People said mean things about all of us, and then were dumb… and… and… he started it!!!! I’m sorry OK!!! :cries:

          • stacie7

There, there, (pats on back). It looks like auntie ahn fixed it for you.

      • http://www.facebook.com/hair.helmet Hair Helmet

See, I think you should have left them up and maybe found a way to highlight them…like sticking the heads of your vanquished enemies on the city gate poles.

      • cliffkoroll

It’s your guys site, and you’re free to do what you want. I just want to register one vote against censorship. Not defending idiots, but I’m no fan of groupthink either.

        • DesertHawk

I kinda agree, not a fan of the deleting, though I do support the banning… does that even make sense?

          • Z-man19

Yes, it’s one thing to voice your opinion, quite another to be an ass about it, which leads one to question the motives of those expressing different opinions. Are you here to have an honest discussion or just stir shit up? I have little belief that that individual was here for an honest discussion

        • ahnfire

maybe once I have a better understanding of the disqus tools, I’ll be able to delete singular comments instead of using the “all comments” button.

until then, nosmoke unfortunately gets to suffer from my lack of familiarity with disqus and have his non-trolling comments deleted.

    • DesertHawk

Sorry for making your job hard Ahn, and not just letting things lie.

    • Sparky_The_Barbarian

Personally I find it all rather amusing, but then I deal with idiots on a daily basis.

  • girlphoenix

Avs are kinda killing the Oilers

    • Accipiter

      Varlamov has been quite good.

      • girlphoenix

He’s a pretty good goalie, but I would not want him for us. Waaaaay too adventurous, heart attack city.

        • mightymikeD

blow up the entire NW (except Vancouver) and start again from scorched earth.

        • Accipiter

4-3 now, Oil are trying to come back.

          • girlphoenix

yay delayed feed, i just got nuge’s

          • mightymikeD

            bless. They think they’re “people”

  • DesertHawk

I love disqus, every time I reload the page, I find new comments that are sometimes over several hours old that it finally decided to show me…. it’s like an easter egg hunt :D

    • Sparky_The_Barbarian

Or like having Verizon voice mail. :)

      • DesertHawk

        Pretty much.

  • DesertHawk

Take away from today… Committed Indian t-shirts, let’s do this!

    • mightymikeD

on it like vomit, as our Australian cousins say

      • DesertHawk

I would definitely purchase one. I also kinda really like my idea of having the players nicknames on the backs, but I don’t know how well that’d go over.

        • mightymikeD

I have no idea what the original idea was, but I’m definitely mocking up a laaarmer shirt as we speak.. and yes, yes they do say that. They’re good people.

          • laaarmer

            I’m right here!

          • Z-man19

            How was the walk?

          • mightymikeD

that’ll be the back print. I’m thinking “I’d Fuck The Academy” for the front.

          • DesertHawk

With eggs hidden in the fabric?

          • mightymikeD

umm.. I don’t know about “Hidden”.. “Central Motif” maybe..

          • girlphoenix

How about one of those Hidden Picture puzzles?

          • DesertHawk

            I like it.

          • girlphoenix

I said Hidden Picture, I meant Magic Eye!

          • DesertHawk

            That too!

          • DesertHawk

            haha

          • DesertHawk

Original was just to give a Committed Indian shirt to the troll. And since he hated the nicknames, I proposed adding all the names on the back, just to piss him off. but I’d dig that. I’d also dig a shirt with something to commemorate Badger.

          • girlphoenix

            What happened to this comment?

          • DesertHawk

I put a less than sign to point… and it thought i was trying to do HTML I think. It’s been fixed.

          • mightymikeD

            good skills

          • Z-man19

            I’m in on that shirt

          • DesertHawk

I have no drawring skillz at all. But maybe on the front just The Committed Indian, with both the strait-jacketed brave, and a badger in a headdress hanging out of the letters. For the front.

          • Z-man19

            I like it so far

      • DesertHawk

        They say that?

    • 10thMountainFire

      This.

  • girlphoenix

    Oilers tie it. Oh Avs.

  • QCBlackhawk

Oh man, when Ahn deleted the one comment I thought she meant she deleted them all. I missed out on more prime shit talking just to go to dinner?! :(

    • ahnfire

      sorry dear.

I was too tired to go through and delete only the worst ones so they got mass deleted.

      • Joe Banks

        So Ahn-a-han delivered the Ahn-a-ban ???

  • girlphoenix

Oilers get the go ahead goal.

    • girlphoenix

      and win 6-4, boo

    • birdhead

And the ENG. Without much investment in either side, what a fun game.

  • Eddie_The_Eagle50

Fuck! I go away and nosmokeinmybuns or whatever his name is comes back with fucking meathead vengeance and I missed it all.

    • pompoon

Just saw all the remaining skeleton conversations…that was some kind of firefight that went down yesterday.

      • Accipiter

Do we seem like a bunch of crazies ?

        • pompoon

In that you’re all shouting at phantoms? Yes.

Seriously though, that dude sounded like a real ass.

          • Z-man19

            That’s putting it mildly

          • 10thMountainFire

That guy carried an impressive amount of douchery. Considering his intoxication level, it was quite a feat.

        • 10thMountainFire

          This is rhetorical, right?

          • Accipiter

Do you still like jello ?

    • chidiver

I had the same feeling. Leave for a week to accompany my niece and nephew to the purported “happiest place in the world” and I missed a troll beating?! :grumpy: (and yes, my family bought me a grumpy shirt while we were there…it seems to be a “thing” right now)

      Speaking of grumps…where’s the GDT?

  • cliffkoroll

Not sure if anyone referred to this:

“I’m not ever going to make anything personal like that, I know it’s not,” Toews said. “But when there is a lot of stuff going on, whether it’s after the whistle, or during the game, I want to go out there and play my game. If I have someone on me all the time, I guess that’s what I have to do — just stand up for myself. That’s all I was thinking about last night.”

It was Toews’ third career fight. It won’t happen often, but he said he’ll do it when he feels it’s necessary.

“There are times where you have to assert yourself and stand up for yourself,” he said. “I think that’s all it was. You’re not going to see me do that very often, and I haven’t in my career, but it is part of the game. You want to buy your time and space and your respect out on the ice. That’s something you have to do to prove you deserve it, I guess.”

    Amen. Go Johnny go.

    • Accipiter

      Johnny be good.

    • 10thMountainFire

Like a few of us have asserted: it’s not advocating goonery to support fighting being a small part of the game. The speed and ferocity of the sport makes it unlike many others. Situations arise where things are settled man-to-man or (potentially) woman-to-woman. Toews picked his spot well and while not promoting fighting, Toews seems to think standing up for himself gives him some additional space on the ice from time-to-time.

  • Toews still makes funny faces!

So I go to work for a day and I miss all the fun
I see I missed the troll blowsmokeupmyass (aka DTM or DTM#2) paid a visit.

As an actual (Undersea) Warrior I would simply like to say to him, You’re welcome. I have done my job well to make sure you have the free ability to make yourself look like an ass at anytime or place in the public square you desire. I have gone into harms way numerous times (I mean with bad guys, real bad guys, who would like to kill me not just check me into the boards or maybe throw an elbow my way) to ensure you have this ability protected and not taken away, also so I can teach my kids how to play Hockey as well (I not only chat about the sport, I play it too!) in a free environment as I see fit.

So once again, I wish to not be thanked, but I will say you’re welcome that all the other “WARRIORS” in the air on land or at sea have be successful to allow you to freely express you ignorance.

I consider this to be that part of the mission to be accomplished, Freedom of expression is successfully protected.

    • Z-man19

You’re still an asshole but well said good sir and as always, your service is much appreciated. That’s good stuff TSMFF
